  • IRL is back and we’re excited to bring you two new interviews a month. In this episode, Angie pivots from conversations surrounding mortality and superpowers to tap into a recent and defining real life life moment. Singer, Actress, Wife and Mother of 2, Kelly Rowland joins Angie to discuss generational trauma, risk, rejection and keeping your sanity through it all.
    Their conversation about parenting styles and breaking generational cycles lead them both to unpack their lingering daddy issues. Kelly shares how a 23 And Me ancestry kit led her to connecting with her father and opens up the space for Angie to share her own recent experience of finding her biological father. These two women are able to hold up a mirror to each other that allows for an episode full of vulnerability and honesty.
    After years of standing side by side with one of the world’s bigger stars, Kelly Rowland finally feels confident in her own light. And her light that shines so bright in this interview, you won't want to miss it.

    It’s interesting how we give parents who leave so much empathy. We make up stories to help us to deal with the truth which in many cases they just walked away. But on the other hand we give the parent who stayed and raised us the roughest time. And I think we do that because we know no matter how bad we treat them they will never walk away

    • @cyensmith6788
      @cyensmith6788 Год назад +40

      I believe we romanticize abandonment. For the parent who stays, we get to experience them in full capacity. We see them happy, angry, frustrated, tired, ya know what I mean? For the absent one we don't experience them that way and we create the image of them that we need in order to cope with their absence. It's usually a happy one because we need to believe that we would be better suited where the absentee parent is. We should be nice to the parent that stays because we understand how hard it is to raise a child when they're impacted by the abandonment too.

    I never realized I how much Kelly looks like Aaliyah . Maybe the beauty and grace in the two is what I’m picking up on. Or maybe it’s the unit but she reminded me of her and how she’d be like if she were still here 😢

    The fact that Kelly, a guest, held space and compassion for Angie, mind blown. It's interesting that as a guest she had to hold space for her when she was there to be interviewed.

      That’s the way women who are comfortable in their skin, treat , communicate and genuinely have compassion for our sameness. Both Angie & Kelly are great communicators . And aren’t afraid to show vulnerability. Great conversation just happened . Not a interview vibe. Most artist love participating in Angie’s plateformes.. she genuinely gifted & knows much about who’s across from her . No petty mess happens, all truth & positive 🦋🤲🏾🪽

    I LOVE how Angie made this interview about KELLY and Kelly only. I (and I'm sure others may have) clicked on this interview hoping I was going to get stories about Destiny's Child and what it's like to work with Beyonce. But I love that Angie really wanted Kelly to tell HER story, did not do anything for click bait and made sure to redirect the conversation back to Kelly whenever it did take a detour into talking about other people. I've learnt alot and it's so great.

    Somehow I felt like the interview was a bit more about Angie but I didn’t mind. Hopefully this helps her heal. I appreciate her being vulnerable. A lot of times people are encouraged to rekindle with absent parents because there’s this idea that it’ll be hugs and rainbows but it’s not always the case. I love how reassuring Kelly was. What a sweet soul!

We got LeToya on the R&B Money podcast this summer, we have this fantastic conversation with Kelly, and of course we have the phenomenal Renaissance act l (praying DC is part of act ll or lll). Kelly looks stunning as always.

    I really really appreciate this conversation especially Angie’s side… I realize that I don’t have to carry the shame of my Father’s abandonment. I know that I have literally tired EVERYTHING in my power to amend this relationship, but I’m realizing maybe he just doesn’t have the capacity to love me the way I need. It hurts and sucks. But underneath it I feel free

      I relate to that too. I've never seen my father, the only picture I've ever seen of him was his high school ID card that he had left in my mom's backpack. I was a teen pregnancy. I look back now & give my mom grace bc she didn't know what she was doing, she was a child w/ a child & had no help. Dad left her after she said I'm pregnant. I found an address of his online, showed up & found out from a neighbor he got evicted & has a bad drug problem. 😔 I need to let it go & find peace. Sorry 4 my long reply & thanks 4 your comment. I'll pray for your peace too 💖
