Brilliant video - love the 996 Cup’s, but it’s a rare thing to find a video showing the car, never mind taking the time to run through all of the details and explaining the reasoning behind the modifications. Thanks 👍🏻
The Mk2 styling had some advantage for front end grip on the cup cars. The car is actually a Mk1 but race cars tend to go through quite a lot of transformations.
Best video yet. As a 996 GT3 owner that was a very interesting video. 968 Clubsport next please? And 944/928 if you’ve got them in stock in the future. Thanks.
968 Club Sport we have at the moment, as indeed is the 944 rather unusually. If timings allow I was planning to do something on both or one of them. Glad you enjoyed.
Great new Porsche channel? Very nice calm presentation from a real world user with race experience. Great knowledge with even better explanations. Loved this 996 Cup video. Will we be moving forward to 997 Gen GT cars and racers? Many thanks from across the pond. 🏁
Thanks for the kind words and glad you liked it. We will probably do something with the 997 cup car at some point. There are some significant differences so worth doing another walk around. We also need to do the 997 GT3 road car when we next get one in and the weather improves.
That's a really cool video. Thanks. It's really tidy car with a great standard of finish for a race car. I have a 2003/4 model mostly used for track days. Can I ask you what spec the doors are and whether they were expensive? They look more solid than the originals and I was impressed you could lean on the driver's door as you got out without hearing a crack! Also is the spoiler itself the original spec? Obviously the mount extensions are after market. Last question is about the shift lights. How tricky are they to install and is the unit pricey? Sorry for so many questions. Final thought - would be great to see it at Rennsport Collective in November. Only a couple of 996 cups in the group so far. The other one is also set up for endurance racing and ran at Daytona I believe. Joseph
Thanks. Very much in it's working clothes. Bizarrely because I never had any big accidents we put it on a jig just to check alignment and tidy up any welds that had opened up over the years towards the end of it's racing career. It could use a new front PU and the rear PU has been adapted to suit the variety of exhausts we had to run. Straight through system at Spa was always my favourite. Doors are standard 996 GT3 cup car items, rear spoiler is wider than standard I think, probably RS spec from memory. It was changed ages ago. Shift lights were on when I got the car a couple of years into it's life, I can't see they would be that hard or expensive to fit.
Ah yes. The 4th generation Jimny finally broke into 100bhp territory. I don't think Suzuki ever quoted official 0-62 times (assuming it goes that fast), but your best bet on Top Trumps would be weight which for an off roader is surprisingly close to a tonne. Of course you then have to add a driver which in some cases can get you back into 1,500kg.
You have to remember this is set up as an endurance car rather than a sprint car. A couple of KG saved could bite you in the bum when you're needing the battery to support a failing alternator or to drive the car off the track on it's starter motor etc. There are a number of options for battery mounting positions to allow for different options.
Hello great video what does the vehicle weight ? and can I ask the difference between the Gen 1 and Gen2 in terms of the Body and Rear wheel arches as I want to Put the TURBO wide arches on a Gen 1 ruclips.net/video/rdLkBR-i4fU/видео.html
@@911virgin8 yes I cut it in pieces as I want the TURBOS widebody and the ventilation to the intercoolers and to also cool the panels and so I can run 315 tyres on the rear
I cant tell you how much I enjoyed this. I love GT3 cup cars!
You just have done!! Many thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated.
Loved the walkaround Henry. Great little video.
Glad you found it informative :-)
This is a priceless video.

Nicely done Henry. That little car punched well above it’s weight
Particularly in the 24 hour races. Steve could dial in a setting for pretty much any conditions straight out of the garage.
Yours was the nicest team that I’ve ever had the pleasure to drive for. Good luck Henry, you are a decent chap
@@stevenrance5320 Very kind of you to say
This was really insightful, great video!
Glad you enjoyed it !
Very interesting walk round with great explanations of things like bump n rebound in lay man’s terms. Great to see a passion shared.
Glad you enjoyed it :-)
Great video. Amazing car! Personally I prefer the mk1 front over the mk2 on the 996

Nice to see a review of a proper race car you own and raced ,would nice to hear it too.
We are working on way to record sound....
Very interesting! I really enjoyed the walk around.

911virgin Cool, thanks! Straight through sound definitely best!
those doors are Mk1 Gt3 cup (frameless window). From 2003 onwards they went to a fully framed composite door.
@@porschenut9 ah that makes sense. The mk1 setup actually looks a bit tidier. Thanks!
@@porschenut9 Anorak alert, the mk1 doors can also be found on the mk2 2002 model year .The later doors look better i think.

thanks for this video, interesting insight

Great video, fascinating stuff so thanks for posting. Can we see a video of the lovely 996 GT2 you have in stock...?

The battery looked a bit on the big side for a racer where weight is a factor.
