I'm Mike Tinsley lead lead singer of Hedgehoppers Anonymous .It was written and produced by Jonathan King and took us from the RAF to No.3 in the charts in 1965 when I was a Corporal Technician working on nuclear armed Vulcan B2's......it was very hairy stuff during the 1962 Cuban Missile crisis
I thought 'Good news week' was one of the most underestimated records of its time. However, it remains in my mind and I bought a copy from an American PX in Panama when my ship (HMS Jaguar) docked there on the way back home in '65.
I remember listening to this and similar songs in the 60's when the Vietnam war was in full swing, protests were everywhere, and it seemed the news broadcasts were always full of doom and gloom items. This song put a spotlight on social unrest and man's inability to maintain a sense of common good - just more violence!

Absolutely superb. "Doctors finding many ways ... to keep us from the heat." Sounds prophetic in mid-July 2022 but it's also a great satire, like this video. I couldn't foresee that in 1965 when just a naive teenager.
I remember this tune from the mid 60s, when Hedgehoppers Anonymous were one of the much loved bands gigging at a favourite club of mine, called Tiles, in Durban. The group & the club is no more, but the evil scourge of war continues. What the heck happened to our CND Movements & Give Peace a Chance ! Come you masters of war, you who built the big bombs, you who built the death planes.... Get out of our world, we have no need of your bloody wars. War is no good for children or any living thing. And the animals of the world who suffer the most, are innocent of the evil, you plague us with. Earth, is the only home we have and those who are your children. Please have a conscience and turn away from the evil you are 'all encompassed' with. Peace & Love is the only answer. ♥️

Great Video !!! one of my favorite songs from the 60s. FYI. they wouldn't play this song on any NY city stations. Occasionally when the weather was right and late at night I could get AM reception from Boston and they played this song. I was in awe before awe was big.
I still own a very old and very original 45 rpm single (Parrot Records) of this. Same group. Same song, but some of the lyrics are different. Like e.g. "Lots of blood in Asia now They've butchered off the sacred cow They've got a lot to eat." And e.g. "Who"s one that prays?" Instead of "Who has won the race?" I guess the Sacred cow lyric was as offensive to the large Hindu population in England as the birth control lyric was to Catholics here in the USA. Ah 1965
Sadly, things went from bad to worse. Year 3 of madness. Was really hoping , on New Years, that this would be better than the last 2. Oh well, all we can do is try too make the best of it.
