This is the way I used to do my makeup in the 80s. I would use a white correction stick and would use a sponge to spread it lightly all over my face, which primed and erased pimples and redness - blanking out the canvas. I would then go over it with a powder that matched my skin and brought it back to my normal shade. It sounds crazy, but it worked and gave a porcelain doll kind of look.

It says on the website, "Rooted in artistry, our undertone system is based on a true color wheel, which may be different from what you are used to." It seems similar to MAC's undertone concept, where warm = pink and yellow = cool, but I find it very confusing. When I swatched at a Sephora store, the best shade was a neutral, even though my skin usually leans decidedly yellow. I will say that when I went through the shade finder on their website, it advised me to buy the one that I liked the best. Anyway, as silicone-based foundations go, I like this one a lot. I think it gives beautiful light coverage without giving me the feeling that I have Saran wrap on my face.

We had the same thought! Sarah Tanno is Haus Labs' creative director and she was a MAC artist for ages, I wouldn't be surprised if the NC/NW legacy was responsible for the Triclone shade range.
Unfortunately, that "true color wheel" nonsense doesn't hold up to any scrutiny, yellow and red are equally close to cool color neighbors. But in an optical sense, such as in design work or just editing the temperature of a photo in your camera roll, "warmth" adds yellow or gold and "cool" shifts towards blue, which is the standard by which every non-MAC/Haus brand labels their tones. 🤦

I think this is exactly what I've been looking for for years... I'm not joking. I bought this foundation because Lady Gaga used my friend’s audio in the marketing for this launch so I had to try it and I was so surprised by the consistency and coverage. On me, I’m light with an olive undertone so I usually have a hard time finding a shade but I guessed which one to get from Sephora’s color match function and it worked great. I think the way it builds is what makes this work for so many people, including me, because it builds up to medium coverage but it can be used minimally as well. It doesn’t last great on my oily skin but it works extremely well as a mix-in foundation for darker or more matte foundations so I’m looking forward to using this during the colder months. I hate how messy the cap gets though 😅

I'm wondering if you bought this from Haus Labs or from Sephora? The website explains the numbering and the undertones pretty well. The number refers to the pigment load (so 000= zero pigment) and the undertones are basically like Mac. It says they're based on the colorwheel, but I'm not an artist so I don't know about that. I do know that Mac is the opposite of most other makeup brands. So yes, "cool" is olive.

Actually, I just double checked and you have to click on the "Details" tab to see the shade breakdown. I just cut and paste the info here:
      The Deep Dive
Finally, a clean foundation for makeup lovers. Infused with 20+ skincare ingredients, this proprietary formula delivers ultra comfortable, longwear performance without compromising your skin. Its weightless, serum-like texture seamlessly blurs and smooths for a natural, luminous finish that wears all day. No slipping or caking. Foundation never felt (or looked) so good.
Using the science of color theory, we obsessively formulated the perfect spectrum of 51 shades across 6 families based on your skin’s depth and undertones. Our shade numbering system (590-000) is based on the pigment load by shade - the higher the number, the higher the pigment load and deeper the shade.
      Shade Families
      Deep
      Medium Deep
      Medium
      Light Medium
      Light
      Fair
      Undertones
Rooted in artistry, our undertone system is based on a true color wheel, which may be different from what you are used to. Using this artistry method, our undertones are defined as:
Warm: Pink, rosy or peach tones - When you get warm, your skin gets flushed and red. The veins in your wrist are primarily blue or purple.
Cool: Yellow, golden or olive tones - Your skin tans easily after spending time in the sun. The veins in your wrist are primarily green.
Neutral: Balance of golden + rosy tones - The veins in your wrist are a mix of blue + green.

It looks like Haus did go against the convention with their undertones, which is what I hear is what MAC does? They have 51 shades and olive tones too so that's exciting, but it feels like you have to pause and really check their product info before picking a shade
Edit: I wonder if they made this shade lighter coverage? I watched some of other reviews and it seemed more like medium coverage and not as runny. I could be wrong, either way I'm still interested!

the crazy crazy cool/warm switch is the way mac does it on their products too. Pink is warm and olive is cool, wich i always found really confusing!

    • @mizshellytee

Because it's based on the colour wheel where red/pink is warmer than yellow/olive (even though there are nuances of each).

@@mizshellytee On the color wheel both red and yellow are warm, and a olive leaning green is still a warm terciary color. ALL colors can be warmer or cooler, depending if there's either a tint of blue or a tint of yellow/red...

This is a super helpful review! I have really fair olive skin too and I didn’t know which one to get. I picked out 015 fair warm. I’m still testing it out to see if I like the look of it. I too wish you could have got the whole first five lightest shades to show us how they look on you. That would have been amazing!

If you look at the ingredient deck, it is basically water mixed with half a dozen silicones so it makes sense that it would be watery with sheer/minimal coverage.

Luckily I knew my shade right away. It’s just like Mac, except haus has true olive undertones! I got a very generous sample from Sephora and even though the color is perfect and it wears well almost everywhere, it breaks down very noticeably on my chin. It settled in my pores, emphasizing texture I didn’t know was there, and just on my chin 🤷🏽‍♀️ I already use two different primers and a setting spray, and i exfoliate enough already, so not worth it for me.
Interestingly, as someone who only wears sheer or light coverage, I constituted this as a medium coverage on me. I use the tiniest amount to get the coverage I want!

Glad you made this video I low key want to get this shade so I can mix it with my other foundations whenever winter hits 😅. I got the shade 260 Medium skin with an Olive undertone and I know how hard it is to find your perfect shade. I did a pretty good job by getting my true color match by using the color wheel they have on the website.

I think I would love this for two reasons. The first, it would be the perfect touch to lighten my foundation and make my makeup look that much more Goth. Two, the serum-like mixture would be perfect to combat dry patches that cause most foundations and creams to flake. Thanks for the honest review!

So get this… I have shade 220 and the consistency is thicker than the very fluid product you showed. It performs as a medium foundation Maybe the 000 is a one off? Not sure. I have been wearing it the last few days and it reminds me of the Valentino foundation. It dries down too. Weird. I also agree that the shades are confusing. I never go for shades described as golden but my shade was warm rosy. In my book those are two separate avenues. The color wheel was helpful.

  • @lily_doesstuff
    @lily_doesstuff Год назад +1

In this shade this foundation reminds me of "le Blanc de chanel base de teinte" which is a white illuminating base. I was used to MAC back in the day so the wheel, once I read the various descriptions, didn't threw me off much. I have ordered the foundation in the shade I matched with, now the wait commences 🤞 very excited to try this out, but also kinda nervous cos it's not cheap and if I got the shade wrong it will be a long wait to have it changed 😬🙏
    (Edit - added later)
Apparently the foundation was make in Korea I believe.
Also about the foundation/cc cream thing I saw several reviews, cos you know before splurging I wanted to be sure this was worth it, and many mentioned it to have buildable medium coverage, which is what it is advertised as. I personally think that the white shade is more of an illuminating shade for the super pales, maybe slightly tone correcting, rather than a covering tone, for that I think you would have to go to the pigmented shades. Idk...I guess I'll find out! Wish me luck! Great video and great look ❤️✨

Hannah! So glad I found your channel. When I'm not tan I believe my shade of pale is your shade of pale and I am also on the dry side. I have the HARDEST time finding a shade match. I used to wear Julep concealer in Linen until they discontinued it years ago. The undertone was so good. I never thought to try a white base to lighten foundation. I always end up pink and my neck is also much paler than my face. I am doing a quick binge to see what foundation to try! I am in the market! I have several Salt New York products from years back. Before she had the skin balms? I see you mix those with a white base? I also saw you like the Kosas, and the RMS beauty. If you had to pick between the balm, the Kosas or the RMS what would be your #1 pick? I'm on a budget and having a tough time deciding. I think I'll grab the green corrector as well. Never tried that trick either. Also curious to try the Natasha Serum. Ugh. Too many choices! I'd love to know what your go to combination is now after finding all these new options!

I decided to buy this "almost white" foundation, by Lady Gaga's Haus Lab. And the reason I did this is because I have other Foundations that are a bit "too dark" for my skin tone, therefore, this Haus Lab (almost white) is perfect for getting my other Foundations to lighten up a bit...And it works!
I think that it's worth the money!

I have a suspicion that the undertone organization/labeling is a result of Sarah Tanno (Ga's makeup artist and Haus Labs creative director) was a MAC artist for years; MAC undertones are famously opposite to what has become the industry standard-and quite a mess, honestly.
I had a chuckle when I scrolled through the shades because it felt like * I * was working at MAC all over again.

Omg yess I’m also one of those sunscreen people. Super pale and cool toned and it gives me the best glowy base. Like I’m glowing from within. Without it I look pretty dead. Also any pinky toned primers make my skin look terrible lol
I always go for glowy too since I’m so pale any texture is made much more obvious so glowy stuff actually tends to be more blurring for me than actual matte blur stuff

This is really interesting - my experience of this foundation is not at all like yours. I got shade 160 (although I matched on both 140 and 170 on two other attempts using their shade finder), and have found it to be very similar to the Fenty hydrating foundation and the Mac Waterproof Nourishing foundation - not at all liquidy or sheer, very medium coverage and creamy. For reference I also have the Pat McGrath labs foundation which is very serum/liquid and it looks like the consistency of your bottle is very similar to the PMG one. I think my shade is a bit dark/yellow on me and might consider getting the lighter shade which looks pinker. I confess I also found their shade finder confusing although I’m very used to the Mac style cool is pink and warm is yellow colour system.

It has an almost old gum color to it. It's a pale cool, greyish beigey rose. Lol Hard ti describe. But I've always loved to use it not only on my lips but cheeks as well. And btw it's not matte theyre called matte lip colors but they're more satin/cream. Long story long lol I think it could be a color you'd love as a blush.

Hi, I have pale olive skin also and I think you may want to try the shade 030 for this foundation. The 030 shade is actually paler in person than you see in the product photos and it IS medium coverage unlike the white shade you reviewed. It does lean on the yellow side but the yellow is cooler in tone and not as bright yellow as Siberia in NARS light reflecting foundation, and it is also a tad paler than the NARS. I feel that it is like an in between of shade000 of rms liquid foundation and NARS Siberia, both in terms of paleness and yellowness. My neck is a perfect match for 000 rms foundation which I do enjoy but I am enjoying the shade 030 of Haus Labs foundation also. NARS Light reflecting foundation Siberia used to be my goto but I never reach for it after finding this Haus Labs 030 and rms 000.

I wanted to know if this would work for me. I was very thrown off by the swatches on the models and the plain product swatches. I didn't pick it up because I couldn't decide on a shade that would work for me. I normally wear the lightest or second to lightest shade in every foundation and concealer, but most ranges don't go this light. I was so confused I couldn't decide which shade to get. I don't have a close Sephora, so making returns/exchanges is a bit of a hassle. I appreciate your take on this. I don't think it would be what I'm looking for.
