    I just got my first dog(I’m 28)almost 2 months ago and I’m in heaven! I told my friend that I was ready for a dog but that I didn’t want a puppy and two days later there was an abandoned dog someone left at the dog park so she notified me and I took him! He’s PERFECT! He’s a border collie and Aussie shepherd mix, house trained, takes commands, LOVES ALL FOOD, and is a cuddle bug! Will have a panic attack if you try to clip his nails so we are trying to figure that out lol!

      that's so precious!! I've seen people suggest taking them to a tennis court so their nails kind of file down naturally, if you can sneak him in haha

    I also would like to hear about your dad being a pilot. Sounds cool, but I’d imagine it was actually really hard.
    My almost 5yo son is obsessed with airplanes, and he hopes to be a pilot someday

      basically you just need to graduate college with a bachelor's degree and then go into flight training!! it's a lot of training and simulations etc and you have to move around a lot, but it's a super cool job! the benefits get better and better the longer you do it :)

    Flip is adorable! For decades I was totally a dog person…dogs found me, I never went looking for them. I might have one but often had three or four. My last dog I did look for and got from a rescue organization because my one dog was grieving his late canine brother. To make a long story short the new dog turned out to be a special needs fellow. Six years old but needed daily meds for anxiety….was never house trained. Had to wear a belly band for years. And he didn’t like ANYONE else. When I’d have company he’d bark the entire time. Once I left overnight and a friend came to let both dogs out into fenced yard and feed them and he wouldn’t come back in. He barked unceasingly. I had to call his previous foster mom to come to my house to get him back inside. I couldn’t leave …finally I started boarding him but that was so expensive. Eventually the rescue organization agreed to pay half of his boarding fees. That helped. The only thing else they could do was to pay to have him put down and as bad as he was, I couldn’t do that. So he lived with me another six years….and I’m now that crazy cat lady. Started with one but ended up with four more after a stray had kittens next door and the following year two of those kittens had kittens. I asked the young family if I could get them fixed so I got the two mommas fixed and four of the kittens. After recuperating at my house for a week after surgeries, they didn’t want to go home. Someone wanted the one male and a few months later one of the momma cars disappeared so years later I’m here with five cats and while I miss much about being a dog mum, I’m terrified to risk such a situation again.
    Okay short didn’t exactly work out did it! LoL!
    BTW the noise bothered you much more than it did me. Real life is just fine.
    Best to you with the new format!

      unfortunately with adopting dogs that's always a possibility, but I hope you don't give up on dogs forever!! there's so many precious and sweet ones that were given up or abandoned for reasons that have nothing to do with their temperament!

      @@gracenevitt I appreciate that. I knew he had some anxiety issues to start with but thought it was because of his history. His previous owner died in a traffic accident a year before and her family didn’t like him and didn’t treat him well before turning him over to the rescue organization, which is where he’d originally come from and was taken on by her as a foster and then eventually what they called a foster fail because she chose to keep him. So I thought in time is a good environment he’d be okay. They fast forward six months a lady I did pottery with told me a story. She said she didn’t realize it was the same dog but she had actually known his previous owner. She was a friend of a friend situation. She had hear her say in a conversation that if anything ever happened to her she wanted them to hour George down because of his behavior issues, she thought no one would take care of him like she did. And honestly if I’d known that, I’m not so sure I would have taken him on. But I am grateful that I was able to give him peace and comfort to be best of my ability in his last years.

    Loved this! Loved hanging out with you hearing the story of Flip 🙂 And, honestly, don’t worry about the noise, no need to apologise, it’s just city living background noise (personally I don’t notice it usually until you say something about it 😄)

    I was just thinking about you today and I thought, Grace should try to get into a community garden. This would be a great place to learn skills for your new homestead while still living in the city. If there are no plots left you could ask an elderly person or a new mom if she would like some help. I just think it might help you mentally to get your hands in some soil, especially when this is one of your goals. A quick Google search or asking around the neighborhood should help point you in the right direction. Maybe there is a way to start a rooftop garden on your own building? Even though this is a no spend year, buying tools and seeds to grow food should save a lot on groceries in the fall, and late summer.

    • @gracenevitt
      @gracenevitt  3 месяца назад +1

      I am technically already a part of my community garden, but you have to basically do grunt work for a whole year or so before they consider giving you a plot of land (totally understandable!!), and I feel like I'm always working on the weekends when they have open garden hours. but I totally agree that the experience would be so valuable!! I need to stop making excuses and go! even if I'm just pulling weeds for hours every Saturday LOL

    The link at the bottom of this page took me to Video called “deinfluencing- home items you don’t need” and I’d really like to see you do a “deinfluencing” video, stuff we want but don’t need.
    I like the concept of his video but not much of it is relatable or desirable, and I think I’m just too far out of his demographic. But a Grace Nevitt version would be interesting to watch

    My dog that I thought was going to be my soul dog passed away exactly 9 months before my birthday. I really think it would be beautiful to get another dog on my birthday as a gift and also as a "okay she passed away but if I carried you in my belly, this would be your reincarnation" and it would be amazing, but I also am not going to bring a new dog into my situation yet. I've got some other babies to love on until then :) Maybe the following birthday

    Hahaha, why are we literally the same 😂😂 When I was a kid I wanted a dog so bad and to show that I was capable of taking care of one I took a stuffed animal dog toy out every day for a while and pretended to walk it around my neighbourhood 😂 I also walked a woman's dogs with my friend that lived close to me. And I also knew my dog breed encyclopedia from cover to cover and still to this day I can look at a dog and 75% of the time know what breed it is 😂🤷🏽‍♀️ Still love them just as much but haven't had time to study any encyclopedias in a while 😂😂
