- The Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Trail in Japan is not to be missed!! Hiking in Japan was definitely the highlight of our trip! This place is just so special and peaceful. Not only is there plenty of nature, but the shrines and temples along the way are beutiful and full of so much history! It's one of only two UNESCO pilgrimages in the world (the other being the Camino de Santiago). The Nakahechi route can be hiked pretty much any time of the year (we went in February) and we loved every minute of it!! Seriously, this is a must do if you love to hike or just get out and experience nature in other countries. Do it! You won't regret it!

Please. In 2018 i got the way of saint james in Spain. Now i want to walk the kumano kodo but i can't find any information in portughese. Please tell me if i need to do reservations in the hostels all long the way and how i do that. Thank you

Nice video, I am planning to travel through the Nakahechi trail next year, but I will be on a limited budget and wanted to know how you planned how many days and how long it takes from place A to place B in the trail?
I am having a hard time determining which cities I will get an accommodation and how long it will take from each point in the trail
There are quite a bit of variables here… none of our days were extremely long and it can be really hiked in about 4-5 days… was there a specific route you were thinking? Also depends on fitness level… we wanted a slower pace and stayed at some of the more interesting accommodations… I would suggest a guide book and start researching from there. I know this seems vague but we also hiked this a little while ago and unsure how the prices have changed! Hopefully this helped a little! Best of luck!
Thanks for sharing your trek at Kumano Kodo. Do you think a solo backpacker can manage on his own if taking this trek? Im physically healthy but forces of nature are sometimes challenging.
I think so… we were not in the greatest of shape and it was a little taxing… but the distances aren’t long and can easily take your time… thank you for watching!

Did the agency also help with the bus tickets or did you have to purchase every time you took the bus?
The agency does not help with bus tickets. You do have to pay with every bus trip. You get on the back of the bus and take a ticket. When you get to your destination, you exit at the front of the bus and then pay as you get off. They have screens at the front of the bus that will tell you how much you owe. They are really simple to use and overall very nice buses.
I’ve been planning and saving up to take my little family of four to do this trek. We are American. I’m trying to get an idea of how much it would cost for the four of us to stay in one of these guest houses and take advantage of the package with a breakfast, packed lunch, and dinner. Is there a group or family rate? I saw on the website that the aforementioned package at one such place was ¥10,000. Which is about US$86 I think. That may be a bit pricey for us if that is the price per individual. Thank you in advance for any help with this question :-)
The only negative I can think about this hike is that it is expensive… of course this was a few years ago so the prices have probably gone up since then… there are cheaper places to stay and we picked ours on route/ experiences offered… thank you for watching!

I live in England and will travel to Spain for the Camino de Santiago ti get get the stamps / pilgrimage, the passport will cost me £5 but then I will travel ti Japan in September
How much is just the passport as I noticed on the tanabe website they are selling the passport and guide for like $50 but I only want the Kumano kodo passport ?
Also will they accept the Camino passport as it will be on a separate passport ?

You can get the passport in Tanabe but don’t remember the price… We used our Camino passport as proof with no issues! It’s our understanding that people have taken pictures of their passport or certificate, we brought our passports just to be safe… hoping you have an amazing trip! Thank you for watching! Do you guys know if you can get a pilgrim stamp book in Takijiri- Oji or only Tanabe tourist center?
I would suggest getting it in Tanabe. There really isn’t much in Takijiri-oji. The was a little cafe that we didn’t go into and there is also Kodo-no-Mori which is a luggage transfer service. We did not see passports there. You may be able to order them in advance from Kumano Travel www.tb-kumano.jp/en/
