Matilda's Magneto love gives me life. We were denied the romcom, but many photos of Stewart and Mckellen out and about together are a small consolation
The infamous “You know what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning?” line was actually a holdover from an older script. In that older script, Toad would constantly recite random toad facts, so Storm’s line would act as a callback, but without that context, it’s just ass.
I was rewatching the movies with my nephew and he didn’t get the line I just said “back in the day they thought it sounded badass” lol I didn’t know what to say
The hottest take I've seen from Ross is "Deadpool and Deadpool 2 aren't worth a second viewing" as he's about to rewatch X-Men Origins Wolverine, Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix
I was 6 years old in 2006, and I very distinctly remember X-Men 3 and Shrek the Third being the first movies that made me realize that movies could be bad.
There's literally nothing wrong with killing everything you touch. Imagine the level of protection you'd have. Like she survived Wolverine. I genuinely feel like that power was developed inside of the wrong person.
Apocalypse was one of the most painful cinema experiences of my life. Dark Phoenix is worse, but Apocalypse is more dissapointing imo since everyone knew Dark Phoenix would be bad, whereas people were actually excited for Apocalypse after how good DOFP and Deadpool were, and it squandered all that potential almost immediately. Supposedly Bryan Singer didn't even care about the movie and didnt show up to set a lot so Kinberg had to ghost direct most of it, which explains a lot
I'm one of those apparently rare people who doesn't mind Apocalypse. I'm aware of it's flaws (maybe not all of them, I haven't analyzed it), but I still enjoy it. What I find baffling about it is how they dealt with Stryker. In Days of Future Past they made it clear that it was Mystique dressed as Stryker who kidnaps Wolverine, but in Apocalypse it's just the real Stryker who has him. I wonder what happened there, because the movies have the same screenwriter and director. Did they originally have a plan which they gave up on? Was Stryker's eyes turning yellow in DoFP a decision made randomly by an editor for the lols?
I would argue that Apocalypse is much worse than Dark Phoenix in terms of basic storytelling and production value. I mean, Apocalypse has no narrative structure and is suppose to be a disaster film but the disaster doesn’t happen until the last half hour (shown in only a few short clips). The movie is far more concerned with rehashing moments from previous X-Men films and setting up future films. And like I said, the production value is worse. Apocalypse looks like he is made of rubber, you tell when they are on a set, tons of CGI is poorly rendered, obvious green screen, etc. Dark Phoenix is suppose to be about Jean's gradual descent into madness and commits to that premise at least. Whether or not it executed it well is a matter of opinion. It also looks nice for the most part.
The thing with the X-men franchise for me is that they begun in the early 2000's and pretty much kickstarted the superheroe boom... yet they stayed in the early 2000's, both creatively and stylistically. The serious tone worked at first because comic books weren't as popular at the time, but now with both Marvel, DC and everything in between doing crazy stuff like multiverses or journeys across time and space they all look and feel mostly boring or stale save for Wolverine who is easily the best part of all of them. Also little sidenote: maybe its not the _best_ idea to make a franchise whose core is about being different and apreciating diversity across races and genders and have all the movies be written and directed by exactly five white guys from whom 2 are registered sex offenders
I'm 20 and I want to date much older women, but people on Reddit, Twitter, and TikTok say 20-21-year-olds shouldn't date older people. What should I do? They won't allow me to date who I want.
Has anyone else noticed that in the first X-men Ian McKellen is actually trying to speak with an American accent? I've watched the movie several times, and it wasn't until my 4th or 5h viewing I noticed it when I was an adult. He doesn't have a clear regional accent, but pronounces some words with a "southern" accent. If you listen to the clips provided in this video, when he says "Mr. Guyrich has been dead for some time Senator", listen to how he says "for". In his native accent, McKellen would have dropped the R and extended the vowel, but in the clip he pronounces it "fer" with a non-rhotic R. Also, when he says "There's a war coming Charles, and I intend to fight it", the way he pronounces "fight" is slightly off. He places the emphasis on the vowel and softens the T at the end, when in his native accent we would have used a very hard T. It's very inconsistent, and you can barely tell unless you're really focusing on it. I'm glad they dropped it in the sequels, just like Halle Berry's "African" accent.
I LOVE this woman and she made this entire series for me. She is Hilarious 😅. She's my spirit animal saying how the hot female villains wanna get laid. I love you!!!

I really hope Marvel figures out a way to do the Evil Cyclops storyline without having the Phoenix Force, because I really want to see Evil Cyclops in live action but I never want to see another adaptation of the Phoenix Saga. Like more specifically, I want to see Wolverine take over the school and rename it after Jean Grey, and then Asshole Evil Cyclops open his own school and take the old name. Going to say it: I don't have faith the MCU will do X-Men justice. It's ironic how bad people want the X-Men in the MCU and one of the most hated movies is Apocalypse, the film most like an MCU movie.
I don’t love or even like the first two X-men movies the way many others do. Last Stand is probably my favorite of the original 3 despite being easily the dumbest. That said, the emotional arc I feel watching those movies -> First Class -> The Wolverine -> Days of Future Past is endlessly cathartic.
The Last Stand isn't just dumb, its problematic. I mean, its Phoenix story is based on some really bad stereotypes about dissociative identity disorder and tries to act like it is making social commentary.
Tbf to Matilda, it's not like anyone could expect us to remember The Dark Phoenix anyway. It was awful and we passed it off as something that no longer exists... and that Jennifer Lawrence was phoning it in and didn't give a shit about the movie at that point 🤣

@@andreware2039 The original Dark Phoenix is also a descent into madness story. The cosmic force acted like a drug and unleashed the dark side of Jean's personality. It is a mental health commentary and the movie is pretty much that. The animated adaptations made it about possession. You know, I never thought much about the scene where Mystique tries to bang Wolverine but now I have so here we go: First of all we never get any indication that she’s attracted to him at all, at least not that I remember. Secondly the scene where she tells Nightcrawler that she shouldn’t have to hide makes no sense considering she did exactly that to have intimacy. I feel like that’s in character for Jennifer Lawrence’s version because in First Class she struggles with wanting to be normal, but this Mystique doesn’t care so what was the point?
They are all terrible in their own ways. This is why I get nervous every time I hear a "rumour" that someone from these execrable FoX-Men movies is going to make a return appearance in a MCU movie. Please don't. These turds need to be flushed down the toilet.
I'm 20 and I want to date much older women, but people on Reddit, Twitter, and TikTok say 20-21-year-olds shouldn't date older people. What should I do? They won't allow me to date who I want.
It was also really sad for me that the one female commentator in the video spent basically the whole time just talking about people having sex or who should be in a relationship or who secretly is. Way to represent the female viewing audience, you can really tell she would rather be watching "The Notebook" or "50 Shades". And I know plenty of women who enjoy comic books without fixating on "shipping" or sex and it really does a disservice to them to behave that way throughout the video.

@@kshitijshukla2957 A genre is by definition a specific type of style. And that's not what Superheroes are anymore. You can have a crime and political drama like The Dark Knight and Captain America: The Winter Soldier or a fun lighthearted space magic adventure like Guardians of the Galaxy or Shazam. You can have a mature take on life like Up and Soul or a safe simplistic film just for kids like The Croods or Boss Baby. So stop being a mindless hater of modern superhero movies like Ross who thinks that every superhero movie has to be like Logan in order to be good.
@@nathanieldiaz5254 I am not a hater of Superhero movies AND I dont say that every superhero movie has to be a Logan to be good. However, Genre is also characterised by similarities in form, style or subject matter, so a film like Black Panther may choose to talk about African-Americans as a whole but there is always a need to have a bad and for them to fight in the end, so there is that similarity in every superhero movie, hence making it a genre. Tell me one superhero movie where they dont have a formidable antagonist who they face in an epic showdown at the end of the movie. They may choose to tackle different subjects, but they way they tackle is the same. Similarly, how a romcom can be about two political leaders, but its still a fucking romcom at the end of the day. Uh, X-1 better than X2, Origins Wolverine underrated, The Wolverine bad, first class mediocre, apocalypse underrated and logan bad? Well, it’s your opinion I guess. Why do you even think Logan’s bad?
@@joeyjerry1586 I personally think Logan is bad because 1. Sudden change of tone and age rating. Logan swearing I can understand, it fits the character. But the Professor? It's like they made it r-rated for the sake of doing it, just to show "look we have a cool adult movie here, not some comic-booky crap you are used to". If they wanted to make an entirely different x-men movie, why not make it with other actors? Then i wouldn't have as much problem with it. 2. Killing off other x-men off-screen. This was probably the biggest "f you" towards the viewers I've sever seen in my life. Developing the characters for 15 years and then suddenly they are killed off due to some mysterious circumstances? I mean what the actual hell? These characters deserve better deaths than "well they died some time somewhere and we're not really gonna talk about it because it doesn't really matter" 3. It completely kills the happy ending for "Days of Future past". Viewers are lead to believe that everything turned out fine later. as it was supposed to be the end of the franchise. Characters went through so much struggle to get to the DOPF ending, they earned it, they deserved it. And to see that it never really mattered? Screw this movie. 4. It's plain boring. Not much happens during the movie, and it's depressing, in a bad way. IMO, the worst X-men movie in the franchise.

She’s pretty annoying, but it’s not that deep lol
@@AdrianLopez-yh3ug hard agree
@@AdrianLopez-yh3ug okay.
You know, I never thought much about the scene where Mystique tries to bang Wolverine but now I have so here we go:
First of all we never get any indication that she’s attracted to him at all, at least not that I remember.
Bro what first class isn’t good? Are they on drugs?
They are all terrible in their own ways. This is why I get nervous every time I hear a "rumour" that someone from these execrable FoX-Men movies is going to make a return appearance in a MCU movie. Please don't. These turds need to be flushed down the toilet.
You must be pissed off about Deadpool 3, I assume.
I'm 20 and I want to date much older women, but people on Reddit, Twitter, and TikTok say 20-21-year-olds shouldn't date older people. What should I do? They won't allow me to date who I want.
Reddit doesn’t control you, date a gilf if you want to king
It was also really sad for me that the one female commentator in the video spent basically the whole time just talking about people having sex or who should be in a relationship or who secretly is.
Way to represent the female viewing audience, you can really tell she would rather be watching "The Notebook" or "50 Shades".
And I know plenty of women who enjoy comic books without fixating on "shipping" or sex and it really does a disservice to them to behave that way throughout the video.
Don’t worry I’m being replaced with a much smarter girl in the future!
@@matildaeklund3472 I never said you lacked intelligence. it's just said that you played into the worst stereotypes people assign to women when it comes to "geek" culture.

Hey man , I know she is your gf and all, but she is really really cute. You are a lucky man .
36:47 Superheroes are not a genre. Maybe 20 years ago but most certainly not anymore. That's like saying animation is a genre.
Thats the dumbest statement I have ever heard
If you dont agree with me, we can just agree to disagree then.
@@kshitijshukla2957 Deadpool 2, that's the one. Juggernaut may be the big CGI obstacle but he's not the antagonist of the film. And Russell most certainly isn't either since he's the victim. Deadpool 2 is a movie with now formidable antagonist in a physical form.
@@nathanieldiaz5254 Okay yes I agree, Deadpool is trying to push the genre but again it is one film in like I dont know how many other so , Superhero movies are still a genre
Ross has really hairy arms, I never noticed that before.
STOP SHIPPING Charles and Magneto!!!! It's freaking weird. Makes you guys seem unintelligent.
OK
I Haven't seen Dark Phoenix, New Mutants, anways here is my thoughs
X-Men 1: Very Good
X2: Disappointing, Not a Bad Movie, Medicore
X-Men Last Stand: Medicore
X-Men Origins Wolverine: Underrated
X-Men First Class: Medicore
The Wolverine: Bad
X-Men Days of Future Past: The Best X-Men Movie Ever
X-Men Apocalypse: Underrated
Logan: Bad
disagreed about X2 and First Class(my favorite X-men movie), agreed on everything else.
Well…… everyone deserves *AN* opinion
Yeah, I don't get the love for First Class either.
Uh, X-1 better than X2, Origins Wolverine underrated, The Wolverine bad, first class mediocre, apocalypse underrated and logan bad?
Well, it’s your opinion I guess. Why do you even think Logan’s bad?
@@joeyjerry1586 I personally think Logan is bad because
These characters deserve better deaths than "well they died some time somewhere and we're not really gonna talk about it because it doesn't really matter"
