Yep! Red Sea Coral Pro Salt. I could never get it to.mix properly without it precipitating out. Switched to Fritz 2 years ago and have never looked back since.
@@BriansAquariums Do you mix your salt box from them? The only real thing i know about precipitation: Add salt to water and not the opposite (and I confirmed). I think temperature can play a role? Not sure 🤔
I highly doubt it was your salt, more likley a dosin accident with alk. That looks like alk burn, no matter how quickly you correct its too late in general.
@@AquaSplendor I have a 55 gal drum of RODI circulating. Then I add 1/2 cup at a time. For me it's right around 40-45 half cups of salt. After it mixes for 24 hours I heat it up to 78. Then test and adjust the parameters to match my tank. Then do a WC.
Sorry to see the loss of life, I have always rolled my buckets to mix everything up well.Like another member mentioned, open let some air in close n roll. Not doing this with ANY SALT is a bad practice.
I realize this was two years ago but I have to say that your video is awesome. My sense of humor after something of this magnetude happening would be😫😭😡. I truly hope everything is better with your aquarium.
to mix the salt, once I receive the bag I keep it closed and take it out from the bucket. you open the plastic bag and let some air inside (bubbly shape) seal again and make it roll a few times switching the bottom upward. sorry for your loss by the way
How about 2 big storage containers....empty one third of salt into each container and keep a third in the bucket mix throughly then empty the bucket into the two containers... then add portions from each container back into bucket until a third full again using a 2 litre measuring jug or similar keep randomly transferring salt around between your 3 containers mixing by hand too.
Great video. I don’t understand what all the thumbs down are about. Haters. Keep up the good videos. Thanks for your time and dedication towards helping others.
Bro I can’t understand what you said !!!! So what salt are you useing ????? And how much scoops do you use per gallon that’s all I wanted to know !!!!!!!!
This is such a fundamental and trivial issue, that every smart ass like me can give you the post advice to measure every time and check extraordninary values with a other test-kit. After that, act wisely. Second post advice, don’t buy to big buckets. :-D Only a paranoid reefer is a good reefer. Thank you for sharing your trivial fault! This could happen also to me, I never check the Alkalinity and the Calcium at all!!! I test only the salinity in my three years of reefing without any problem. You open my eyes that I was playing russian roulette for three years :-) I even twice smarter after your video. I use Tropic Marin Salt for my 250 Liter tank. Maybe I should switch back to the 4kg Bucket to avoid any Problem and measure every time from now on :-) But one last thing, why I shouldn't shake the baquette? :-P
My pleasure, yeah big lesson for me, not only I will always mix but I finally decide to put the project of Frag tank forward! having a backup is always a good idea!
Hey man, that was a terrible experience for you! I’m just going to order Red Sea’s latest newer recipe salt. First time for me to use Red Sea so I’ll be sure to shake it up good and proper in the bag to ensure a homogeneous mix… I feel for your loss brother, a hard lesson, but thanks for sharing so we can all learn…
@Aqua Splendor can I just buy sea water online.. 3x 20L ... I want a small aquarium nothing big.. and I'm unsure about mixing water myself.. Coral is pretty pricey and I don't want for it to die
Nicolas merci beaucoups pour le conseil et salutations de montreal! I just tried the red sea coral pro for the first time and mixed it by accident into a plastic container after amazon damaged the bucket from shipping!Should thank them now 🤣. .Subscribed!
Yes, since I was a Canadian they refuse to test the salt with my sample leftover. So will never know what happened :( I have another batch, seem to be better, but that alkalinity fluctuation is a major problem in this mix. The blue bucket is much better.
Does anyone had a bad experience with salt like I had in this video?

Like I showed in the video I tested in a bowl, multiple time and different temperatures also. All parameter were fine AFTER I mix the salt.

Man that is actually clever and simple, love it! thx for the tip

WATCH THIS VIDEO TILL THE END. It starts off slow, but he gets there. I hadn't thought of this before but mixing the salt sounds like a good idea.
Just like a train :P. It's actually a recommendation from the manufacture. Was lazy before but now, every time I will buy a bucket gonna mix them!
Great video. I don’t understand what all the thumbs down are about. Haters. Keep up the good videos. Thanks for your time and dedication towards helping others.
I didn't notice, I think people want to protect what they use?

Don't measure scoop or what ever. Measure salinity in the water until it reach 34-35 ppt
Blue is better

you think the salt was the reason ? im deciding on what salt to buy
100% positive.
Thanks for the good laugh :) Love the laundry machine idea.
Yeah... Don't do what I do, neither do what I say :P :P
Greetings, do you know how many cups per gallon? Hope you can help me.
Unfortunately I don't know, I always measure my salinity on the go, it's too important.
It’s 1.6 pounds per 5 gallons
Je vais le mixer merci pour le conseil !
Yes i have had the same issue do can you use the salt after the first would it still be fit for purpose?.
Just dry mix/shake it well.
Damn you taught me something good. Merci mon amis! Sorry for the loss. I'm sure they were beauties.
My pleasure, yeah big lesson for me, not only I will always mix but I finally decide to put the project of Frag tank forward! having a backup is always a good idea!
I don't understand the dislikes. The video is as exactly what the title shows.
Not completely sure either haha but I don't mind if this video help anyone 😅

Happy to help!
I'm total noob but I would like to make mini Coral aquarium.. how do I mix this salt and do I mix it with distilled water?
You need a value of around 35ppt or 1.024 sg depending on how you measure salinity. Add salt to the water. Distilled water work.
@Aqua Splendor can I just buy sea water online.. 3x 20L ... I want a small aquarium nothing big.. and I'm unsure about mixing water myself.. Coral is pretty pricey and I don't want for it to die
@@calikush4 Sure, depending on where you live it's possible.
@Aqua Splendor in Germany.. ok thank you for your reply you are very helpful and awesome 👌🏼
I had a coral warfare overnight, I know the feeling and I lost approx $10 K in corals overnight.
for soft coral which is better coral pro or Aquaforest reef salt
I haven't tested the Aqua forest, can't tell. But If Red sea, go with blue bucket.
How much salt for a 5gal bucket
Hi, i Start a tank today with the Same salt...
Well, not today BUT 2020 I will have my first Display tank (hopefully) ;)
I've had the same thing happen to me.
Dang, i receive many similar comments on a different platform, how big the tank was?
I empty salt in bucket and roll my bucket around on uts side 👍🏽😁
I can't eat raw Carrots, due to allergic reactions...just to notice. I like your Videos and your dry Humor in it 😂
Ah thank you, and sorry :P (Can you tell i'm canadian?)

Ah cool :), en espérant que ça a pas ramasser le sel des rue de montréal 😝.
on sait jamais, ca aurait put ! Lol
I have a African cichlids tank and people are saying this is good to help kill parasites at half the recommended dosage can anyone confirm ? 🙂
Yeah I don't know honestly, many people use salt time to time, like a dipping.
Also, just roll the bucket around, turn it over, shake it up
Did you contact Red Sea and if you did what did they tell you
Yes, since I was a Canadian they refuse to test the salt with my sample leftover. So will never know what happened :(
I have another batch, seem to be better, but that alkalinity fluctuation is a major problem in this mix. The blue bucket is much better.
you still using this salt?
Yes and no, i have a new bucket, I dry mixed, the big problem of that salt is really the high alkalinity, it's dangerous
Wheel the bucket around on its side?
Meh it wasn't enough in this case, it's the first thing I tried!
yo turn down the music i cant understand what you are saying
Yo fix those glasses 😎
DIVIDE THA SALT INTO 2 DIFFERENT BUCKETS, PUT A TOP ON THEM AND GET TO SHAKING!..
Geez mixing seems to be so complicated lol
Never put your hands in the salt 🙄
