Love Croatia, been to Pula and Rovinj beautiful places, and the people are amazing, helpful and friendly, fancy Brac or Hvar next, when this horrid Covid goes away. Such an idyllic country, probably my favourite holiday in the last 10 years, superb

Croatian coast is full of similar ruins. Croatia, as part of Yugoslavia, was heavy on tourism. When the Yugoslav war broke out, tourism vanished, leaving many hotels bankrupt. Those hotel buildings were basically left to rot. Croatian tourism is now even stronger than before, but it was much easier and much much cheaper to build new hotels than to track down owners of old ruins and then restore them or demolish them.

If i may I'll throw in here an ultra quick course to ease your pronunciation in Slavic languages.
Č = ch
Ć = same as "Č", just a bit softer
Š = sh
Ž = zh (as in "vision" or "usual")
Đ = combination of letters D and Ž (pronounced as "J" in the name "John or "G" in George")
Letters which are the same, but can sound differently in English words:
I = Always pronounced like double "ee" - Beer. Never as - "I" in "Idaho"
R = Always sharp pronunciation (Like Italians would say "pRonto")
A = Always sounds as A in America (in every single worth!)
C = Always pronounced as "ts". Like Tsar (Car(not a vehicle)), or Tsaritsa (CariCa), or Tsunami (Cunami) - Never like C in "CoCaCola".
U = Always as double "oo" in English (Boots). Never as "U" in Utah.
G = Always like G in "Grape" or "G" in your name and never as G in "General"
J = is basically the letter "y" (like in worth "youth" - never pronounced as it sounds in the name "John")
H = is never quiet!

For local food, try "peka", a typical Croatian dish of tender meats and vegetables... meats can include chicken, lamb, octopus, or veal, cooked under a terracotta or iron lid over burning embers... usually accompanied with potatoes... try a truffle burger... Croatian truffles are even more flavorful than their Italian counterparts... if I'm not mistaken, the Motovun forests have the highest concentration of truffles worldwide...
You are not a fan of big crowds, and Makarska is typically crowded this time of year, but it is nice... we usually stay in Podgora, a bit quieter, about ten minutes south of Makarska... but I guess all coastal towns will be crowded.
When in Makarska, and since you like hiking, go to the Biokovo Mountain... the huge one that guards most of that coast, and go to Sveti Jure, the highest peak there, also try the Biokovo Skywalk, the newest attraction there... a translucid skywalk at 1,200 meters high (some 4,000 ft)...

@@SU_fan_44 It's really cool. Practices during the day but all matches around early evening. They have flood lights. It's only a town of 500 people or so and the local team is called Lahor (Breeze)

The ruin is the "White House" hotel, which was abandoned in 1999 due to a court case. It was one of the first luxury hotels in Bol.
There was a court case between the Republic of Croatia and the Church, more precisely the Croatian Dominican Order. Anyway, a part of the hotel grounds is legally owned by the Dominicans and they sued the county of Bol and Republic of Croatia. It's still ongoing afaik.

The Adriatic/Mediterranean/Aegean area really suits you. You seem in your element with the beautiful beaches, clear waters, tons of history, and great food. When things calm down I can't wait to see you explore Sicily, Corsica, and Sardinia!

It's safe now, my friend, by my definition anyway. The infection and death rates YTD are about one-tenth of the rates in California, for example. The most unpleasant part, I imagine, might be the plane ride.

@superbura9 superbura9 I'm almost 60 which I think is very young still. I would definitely consider it! Only thing is Gabe was saying it's expensive in all the areas he visited. I'm retired now and have a budget of 4200us a month, not sure that whould be enough to live on? I'll have to do more research. It's incredibly clean and the beach look so inviting. I'm. In. Love.😁

Makarska Rivijera will be definitely more interesting and beautiful, particularly Brela, Baska Voda, Basko Polje. In Brela they have the most beautiful blueberry ice cream in the world. You have to taste that!

I'm from Croatia and I love your videos, you're showing places in deep and relaxing mood.. I suggest you to visit island Pag, famous for salt, cheese, lamb, wind, rocky landscape, nightlife in Zrče, triangle (aliens landing) and more.. Keep it up :)

If you will be going to the coast next, and plan on moving up northwest I highly suggest the town of Šibenik and its fortresses and perhaps even some of the islands nearby. Those islands are very small and there are no vehicles allowed so it's a contrast to the big touristy islands where you've been for the past month. There is also a beautiful national park Krka near there.

Don't bypass Primošten on the way to Šibenik. On the other side of town there are also interesting places, after which you can reach the Kornati Islands National Park.

Brela, Makarska riviera is one of the most beautiful places in my country...
Hi Gabriel, this abandoned building was hotel called White House.Nobody knows why is closed but there is some stories anout that. 1 story :the hotel could not pay the electricity bill so it was closed. Second is that is dispute betwene dominican monastery and local govorment in bol,Dominicans think that the land where this hotel is belong to monastery. And the third and most relevant story is that hotel was sold for small money and new owner doesn’t care about it. These stories are just theories and none know why this popular and most beautiful hotel in Bol lapsed...

Brač is not expensive unlike Hvar, in milna there are cars to rent atura with boat if you were not alone would have come 25€, but of course it is easier to do everything to stop the car that will drive you for free, instead of the service in the restaurant a bottle of water you could pay 12 kn in the store and in fast food eat the same food for 25 kn....

All the islands have something, Brač has everything.. from small fishing villages like Postira to tourist centers like Bol and Supetar.

$95 for 24 hrs seems bit of a ripoff however the worst part is that you didn’t even enjoyed it properly due to time pressure, i.e. cave search had to abandoned and museum entry wasn’t allowed. Well... it happens sometimes 😁
Lots of great places even in the close vicinity: Makarska, Trogir, Sibenik, Krka waterfalls. Considering your taste in places Sibenik is most likely a city you will like a lot.
