Is this the strangest game you ever played on the C64? 😇🕹👌 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= More from 1983: tinyurl.com/1983-C64-GAMES My Top Picks: tinyurl.com/CCGS-BEST-GAMES
I still do not understand where you find these gems. I thought I had a very deep knowledge of C64 games. But, from time to time, you surprise me with a game like this.
At the time this came out I was truly fascinated by the huge sprite (Yeah I know its several joined together). But you didn't see much of that back then.
Yeah your right. I think thats why I enjoyed the Don Priestley (Piranha) games, like 'Mad Flunky', 'Trap Door', etc... and even games like 'Bangkok Knights'... BIG sprites! 😇🕹️👌
I'd never hear of this one before, but it's a truly fascinating little gem. Very cool! What really wows me about it most is that I feel that, with different themes and framing, this could really have been something that would have had the gamers of the time very excited to play it, and/or games with similar mechanics but different window-dressing. The fact that it uses a "point and click to shoot" sort of first person shooter formula, as well as a large, moving character to shoot at makes me think that with a little storytelling and different graphics, they could have made a game where you were supposed to be shooting at some space alien, or tossing throwing stars at a ninja, lobbing pies at a clown, or tossing baseballs at a batter, or shooting rockets at a Godzilla-like kaiju. The monster princess thing is certainly different and a bit weird, which is fine and great of course, but I can also see why the idea wasn't one that really captured people's imaginations enough to make it one of the all-time memorable classics. Still with a little extra something, I think they could have made this one big, or made something else similar that broke through. Thanks for sharing this delightful game. :)
A trip down memory lane. This might have been my first original, as in none-pirated, game. Imagine my disappointment when I loaded the tape. As a fairly new C64 breadbin owner. Had better luck next time since the second game I bought, Raid Over Moscow, turned out to be one of my all time favourites. Thanks for the review even though this brought back some lackluster childhood memories 😂
I apologise for the intro! Hah I know it can be annoying to many but I'm glad you like it. I have put chapters in every video so you can actually skip 13 seconds in to the video too 😇🕹️👌
What a weird game, never played it, but looks like one of those games that you'd only play a few times before being fed up without enough varied gameplay.
True enough, I managed to get through all three difficulty levels within around 5 minutes. Quick game to complete but one that needs to be played at least once 😇🕹️👌
I have never played this game... but once I saw the monster I knew I've seen it somewhere before. I have no idea where. Another video somewhere? Someone's avatar? I have no idea... but I know I've seen it. Strange game. Definitely unique... I'll give it that!
Completely bizarre, but I loved every minute of it. Managed to complete all three difficulty levels... however, once you've got through this, theres no real reason to return to it 😇🕹️👌
This is existentialist art-gaming piece, with sublime message. Woman appears to be a lovely princess at first, but then turns into monster and keep dancing on man's brain with hideous aspects of her dark, demonic side. But there is still hope she can be healed through some profound acts, symbolized in this old game as... well, shooting with cross-hair. Yap, better than nothing, I suppose. Probably having something to do with Shakespearean concept presented in "The Taming of the Shrew". Perhaps a bit more on the occult, diabolical side. Coming from the less correct era of the 80's, or even 16th century writings of The Bard. I'm just assuming, impartially and without any personal agreement with the concepts involved. This is just a small idea toward some abstract for academic paper, nothing more. PS - Cheeky, how about covering "The Fabulous Wanda"? Comes to me as related somehow, being in the existentialist camp. And being pure punk / DIY game (and commercial rip-off), letting many people learn some BASIC while modding it. Can't be half bad it looks.
Oh no! I got my C64 back in 1983 and this game (and a 3D labyrinth game) came with it. And I absolute hated the game. I still do. Imagine getting a new computer for birthday and you get THIS game, when your cool neighbour with a ZX Spectrum played games like Jet Pack, Space Invader clones, Bugaboo, Manic Miner, Maziacs and other quite more interesting games for the time. And I got this.
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Haha, it does. Ofc there is some sort of nostalgia too to it since it's connected to being one of my first games. But that's literally the only positive I can say about it 🤣
I... *guess* the monster is laughing at you, if you fail...? Yeah, it looks very strange. And I'm not sure why the monster would laugh if it wanted to be turned back into a princess. Still, I appreciate an era when a game with such an odd concept could get published.
Game was made at the time of great video game crash, and C64 just went out. This means two things: 1. everyone was scrambling to produce some kind of video game and make quick buck 2. real capabilities of C-64 were unknown . Thus, we got this and from a visual perspective it does utilize graphical capabilities of C-64 to some extent (colors, hardware sprites ..) although it uses system font for information. On the other hand, game is similar to one screen games that were usual for previous generation (Atari 2600, VIC-20) . Forgettable as it is, it still hinted at things that will come later on C-64.
True, it came at a very strange time for gaming. Thankfully, the games that followed were superb. Still, that being said, this is still one of those absolutely unique titles. Imagine this being remade as a AAA game for the modern consoles haha 😇🕹️👌
Hahaha completely agree with you there my friend. My dancing is shocking. I have the great ability of staggering around from one end of the bar to the other and having a little jig... that's me done 🤣😁🕹👌
Well, this certainly looks original. Why did the evil wizard turn the princess into a monster? How did that benefit him? Why did the monster want to dance? Why did the hero think that it would be a good idea to shoot at the monster and destroy body parts in order? So many questions.
Very valid questions! Crazy game isn't it haha - I think with the zany music going on in the background it actually makes this a comically great game 😇🕹️👌
I just have one question: What on Earth was the programmer SMOKING when he came up with this idea? Definitely one of the more bizarre games I have ever seen on the C64.
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer It's unique, I'll give him that, but I can't imagine it was a huge seller. I wonder if it was a budget title? Might be worth it if it's only a few bucks, just to pass the time.
While I can understand not being enthusiastic about the dancing, it does seem a bit of an overreaction to repeatedly amputate the creature's appendages for it.
That must be one of the worst C64 games ever. The sort of thing you could knock up in Computer Studies on a Friday afternoon at school while playing Sam Fox strip poker! 😉
Not going to lie. I hated this game. The grinding tune (Dance of Hall Mountain King). That so annoying failed kackle. This game needs to be deleted permanently. Not a fan, game was sure frustration.
Is this the strangest game you ever played on the C64? 😇🕹👌

Such a vast catalogue, hopefully there will be many more to come 😇🕹👌
This could very well be the most perfect game ever created.
It's one of the zaniest, that's for certain! 😇🕹️👌

Just two things: 1. What the hell did I just watch? and 2. GIVE ME MORE OF IT!! 😃😆
Haha you should feel sorry for me, I had to play this darn-foolery of a game! But it was funny 😁🕹👌

Delightful would definitely be the way I'd also summarise this zany little game. It definitely should be played at least once by everybody 😇🕹️👌

Yeah, same.
Glad this one brought back some good memories, it's all about the nostalgia. Zany game, but still... good fun while it lasts 😇🕹️👌
I get that intro jingle stuck in my head so often since I started watching this channel.

Can see it as an arcade cabinet from Exidy, of the likes of Crossbow... I find it kind of fascinating, in its own, oddly deranged, way...
An incredibly strange game indeed, yet... I love it for some strange reason. I think it's the music 😇🕹️👌
If i ever find this game for my
Commodore 64, i'm gonna laugh 😹👍🕹️!
Plus, i am the summer 🏖️🌞 baby 👶 of 1983 😹👍.
Good fun game, a bit crazy though 🤣🕹👌
remember this, never saw the princess before
Zany game isn't it... it's not too difficult easy so its accessible to many who want to give it a whirl 😇🕹️👌
Fascinating and really abgefahren!! 😂👍😉
This has to be the craziest game I've ever played 😇🕹️👌

@@CheekyCommodoreGamer It would be completely politically incorrect in modern time to turn a monster into beautiful princess :P
Maybe needs a VR remake with some Prodigy music.
I'd buy that! 😇🕹️👌
One of the most heinous crimes in British society is to dance under the conviction that you don't look silly.

A stupendously crazy game indeed! 😇🕹️👌
I guess the deeper message is about raising kids
Haha possibly 😅🕹👌
Good of the witches who cursed the princess to cover her modesty in a pair of wrangler jeans
Hahahahaha yes 😇🕹️👌
I never tryid this one
Definitely give it a whirl - it's dead easy to play and quite good fun while it lasts 😇🕹️👌
Excellent review
Much appreciated, thankyou😇🕹️👌

Hahaha exactly! Brutal isn't it 😇🕹️👌
Never olayed this, never will! This would've been more fun if you had grenades you could lob at the creature! 😂
A very stra gel unique game. A shame you couldn't choose different weapons! Grenade would have made for a very fast game indeed 🤣🕹👌
