I love how Sam's approach to fitting is "I don't care how long it takes, we're gonna find what's right." as opposed to the majority that's "This is what you should be using, figure it out."
I just felt like no stone was left unturned, everything sam changed linked to trying to help me keep the club face from closing down. Can’t wait to get it out onto the course now. Cheers Lex
@garymartingolf I'll look forward to seeing the test vlog mate! Did you say you were gonna have a match against Gaz golf? A Geordie vs a Yorkshireman? Christ bring a translator 😂😂
Gary this was one of the most in-depth fittings I have ever seen, and right up there with when James went over to German to see a young pro get fitted by my friend Sinjin McNab. I like you struggle with my driver, I’ll have a round where I laser it and the the next round it goes to Rats. I think I will be flying over to visit Sam in the near future. Thanks Gary.
Wow! Thanks David, that’s really kind! I really really didn’t go to that fitting expecting to walk away fading my driver. I learnt so much, and I hope the viewers did 👌🏼 It’s sounds like you may have a few scares like me with driver, and you just need to stop the rot with a few good driving rounds back to back to get your confidence. I just love the feel of my driver so much, it’s all I want to hit, if you don’t feel that, you might need to think back to a driver shaft or feel you really liked so the fitter can try to build you something 🤟🏼
@@garymartingolf thanks for your reply I appreciate, it’s nice to hear a good West Yorkshire accent on RUclips, from a Wakefield lad in Spain 🇪🇸 Keep up the good work fella!
This is by far the best video you have produced. Me being a golf nerd and a shaftiod person i got a lot out of this please do more like this maybe a high handicapper fitting, mid handicapper fitting etc keep up the great content Gaz
Thank you for watching. I hope you took a few points away. I’ve not done it sooner due to cost, but now I’m getting into RUclips abit more, I want to get my golf back to my best, as I think it will definitely help me build a following if I can start beating some other pros 😅
Really good video gaz. I’ve been looking forward to your fitting after the last fitting video looking at getting a fitting with this fella after this 👍
I’ve not paid full retail, I couldn’t afford it. Such a shame golfs so expensive and cost is a barrier to allowing people to get proper fitted equipment. I’ll be honest in my conclusion once I’ve had a few weeks to get used to it.
Oh Gary u are going to be broke. Dan going to have to rent u a broom closet to sleep in. Seriously, love to see the improvement and great info from Sam, he is a wizard!
Haha 😆 Hopefully I won’t need reminding so much next year 😅🤣 He wont have it so easy next year as once the weather gets better, I’ll have more opportunity to play golf than ever before 👌🏼
As a Leeds fan I couldn’t go for the Man U/forest colour combo you be got. Great video. I was very sceptical about fittings and this confirms to me you need a true pro like Sam here.
He offered me the option of white and yellow/blue, but I said I’d rather skank it for the rest of my life 😂 It’s the best I’ve had, I wasn’t going to buy anything unless I thought it made a real difference, and I were very happy with the results.
Good watch that, a proper fitting, finding the right shaft and still moving on to try more, that's the sort of mind clearing things that need done, so there's no what if. Lucky you have Sam close, that's different level to anything I've had.
Enjoyed that Gaz (and Sam) two hours for a fit...Sam wanted to get it right for you Gaz 👍👍👍 What we need to see is... you and Dan in a battle of the shafts Also looking forward to seeing Dan's wedge fit ONWARDS!
Loved this one. My inner golf geek was very happy! I’ve considered getting fit for a new driver but always been told it would be hard to beat what I currently have (2016 M1 that I self fit). Had two different fitters say this having seen me hit only a few balls. I’m sure Sam would say otherwise and I’d trust him to be right having seen this vlog!
What a great video, love watching fittings I find it really interesting. If I lived closer I would definitely get a fit with Sam. Just out of interest does he do junior fitting? My son would love a fitting here I reckon.
I enjoyed watching the fitting no comparison to my demo day driver fitting I only tried 2 stock shafts , finger's crossed you make 20k subs before chrimbo mate 😊
Nice video, Sam knows his stuff. As a 70+ year old golfer, my pro advised a stiff shaft, low torque, 75grams in my Ping G430 SFT. Immediate improvement in distance (10-15metres) and straighter often with a moderate draw. I was astonished with the restult as a stiff shaft for a senior golfer seemed counter intuitive.
I just couldn’t wait, i want to start next season hitting the ground running and challenging some other RUclipsrs as I’ll have more time to play. It might be possible to switch into the new head when it launches, I could even do a comparison with sam to see if it’s any better and get him to fine tune the shaft / weights so they match.
@@garymartingolf It just shows yer there's a club out there for everybody it's just a matter of having a fitter who's willing to tell you the truth and not just say "or that'll do for you". Can't wait to see the video.
Macus Edblad is the Swedish long drive record holder & he uses a 44" Regular shaft in his Callaway XR on course playing driver. 47" in his long drive club. Like you he likes to feel the head. Interesting stuff. His driver club head speed is 130 MPH Me personally I've just switched to a Callaway Epic Flash with PX Evenflow 5.5 instead of S flex, best thing I ever did.
Gary love the recent in depth fitting videos! My question is would you recommend a driver fitting from your man at golf repairs 4 u or one at sggt at Chesterfield? I'm going to take the plunge very soon and would love your honest opinion. Cheers 👍
It’s two entirely different services to be fair. Sam does fit new clubs for pxg, but he’s more an after market fitter who tunes up your golf clubs with better shafts and a more in depth fitting. Chesterfield have a mass array of new clubs for people to try and be fitted for from new. I’m personally going to use Sam as it’s cheaper for me to buy my own clubs through my work, and then take them to sam for master fitting.
Nice insight to the thought process of a club fitter. Your pulled driver shots seem to have been addressed. Do you pull other shots such as fairway wood, hybrid and mid to long irons? If so, how will you sort these shots out?
100%. We’ve done a video on dynamic custom fitting for a grip following on from this video, to show how grip size relates to release and designed ball flights.
I really want to see that as I’m always thinking of different size grips, on irons mostly as I’d like too the difference and if your guys got PXG irons you could test Tay at and keep swing weight the same👍 keep up the effort Gary 🥳
As an average duffer, I'm intimidated and skeptical of going to a fitting. My swing is so unreliable that getting fitted on any given day seems a total crapshoot as to what my swing will be a day/week later, and ultimately a complete waste of time/money. I feel I need a more reliable/repeatable swing before spending on a fitting. And my fears about potentially being fitted by a hack feeds into my skepticism. I've watched Trottie give fittings at The Kingdom and he rarely tells clients what he's doing with swing weights/shafts/heads etc. Just watches a few swings, sees possibilities, dreams up a few options and hands clients clubs so they have no bias when swinging. .
One of my friends got fitted for a driver. Was bragging endlessly about how it fixed everything and was hitting 40 yards further and dead straight. Spent about $1500. We get out on the course and he still hit the same crappy slice he always did. He sold that driver for a $700 loss after a month.
Some fitters can manipulate the data to show improvements, but being a pro, i can confirm, there was no data manipulation here. We only removed two shots which were total miss hits.
@@garymartingolfI have a feeling that's exactly what happened to my friend 😢. Although, we do swing slightly different day to day, so it would be interesting to go back a few days later and see if the specs are still the best.

You’ve got to find the right person, someone obsessed with golf clubs, I knew from the first time I met sam, he’s a golf nerd. He’s so particular about how he does things, I don’t know if you saw the re shaft he did, but he added black dye to the glue and other elements, who does that 😅 absolutely obsessed 😬
