@@mariabelen7929 Yes, exactly. It is about chance encounters and the random experiences people have that actually create intimacy. Believe me, this does happen in real life. Some people take more risks than others. I would say its pretty dangerous, but if you look at how the character lives her life, everything is very safe and controlled. Her rendezvous provides her with an escape from her boring but stable life, that she wants to keep separate and therefore she never wants to talk to him.
@@mariabelen7929 In the first scene of the film, it is not the first time they are meeting, so I guess you are right, that they never show the first meeting.
Really at first, when I started watching this movie, I thought there was nothing much than "graphic sex scenes", but as the movie went, I really found the story fascinating and that the sex scenes make sense to explain the whole story. Mark Rylance and Kerry Fox are also completely credible in this movie. Wonderful acting of both of them. Thanks for making it avaiable.
yes, at first I was astonished that Mark Rylance accepted to play this film ! I mean, Mark Rylance, it is not the half of an actor ... but then I understood why ... great movie !
I love Mark Rylance (sooo lonely), Alistair Galbraith (see him sweating as desperate alcoholic), Kerry Fox is fantastic, Marianne Faithful(sincere), Timothy Spall (needs cuddling)..and the music is wow...a pitty so many get distracted by the naked scenes (need psychotherapy..its the truth shown there...why not get heart attacks with all the violence shown in movies...its absurd these reactions here and not there....)
totally agree, sex is not violence, and this film is great ! I must say I did not expect to see Mark Rylance naked in a movie, I mean, it needs a lot of courage for an actor of this quality to see over the "porn" side and accept the role ... sorry for my bad English , I am French !
@devorac1 Lol yes they do. Some ppl seem to think the sex/nudity they show is too much but I dont think so. Its all art IMO, great actors, great direction-I cant believe some ppl think its filth. Ppl see sex and they cant handle it, calm down, its just two bodies!
I believe I have read the short story by Hanif Kureishi of the same name, on which this film was based. Recently I watched Intimacy again, I was disappointed. The Mark Rylance character is a balding middle-aged manager of a pub, he's having it off with Timothy Spall's wife, while socializing with Spall (a pub regular) and attending amateur theatrics that the wife takes part in. Film is unlikeable and dull. There are scenes of London peak hour traffic and drab skies- enough to put me off wanting to visit the city. When they screw the couple's encounters are largely silent and seem to be often compulsive. What do they SEE in eachother? the viewer asks himself. Mark Rylance character admits he is bored by the job, he's in a rut running the pub, although he evidently likes to get himself shit-faced occasionally, even snorting a few lines of powder in some other scene. The scenes of amateur theatre (they do a Tennessee Williams' play) are all-right, but they come late in the film. There is a flat-moving scene, some articles of crappy furniture are thrown from a first-floor flat. Overall, a dull film, a vehicle for a few "real' sex scenes of a partial head-job and Rylance's uncircumcised cock which is on a half mongrel sort of hard. Big deal. He'd do nothing for me, I'd do nothing for him. The woman is equally unappealing. Mr Spall plays his usual working-class jowly sort of act, al la Loach-directed films. You'd have to feel sorry for him because Rylance's character is shagging his missus, while referring to it in a veiled way. Of course, Spall's character finds out- it becomes as evident as the balls on a terrier. More urban, bleak British film-making. Makes you crave a French film. Don't see this for the sex scenes. They're dull. So ordinary! The best character is Mr Spall's character's young son who's watchable and interesting.
I've haven't watched the movie, but I love your critic. All I've read about this movie is about the sex scenes. That's all. I guess the movie is not good if they only talk about the sex scenes. I don't get it. Why would she go to this dude's house if she doesn't know him?
What did you like about it? Bloke manages a pub, is bored and has it off at a prescribed time with another guy's missus in inner city bleak ol' London. What's likeable?
@bass109 Do you call Mark Jesus....Though Mark is exceptional in this movie I would not call him Jesus...he is someone of his own ....though with much love and selflessness indeed
this movie is to entertain a particular section of the society. glad not to be a part of that section. i seriously wonder be faithful and miserable or be unfaithful and be happy. its a difficult question for which i have no answer. are we as humans changing is this what we are evolving in to. is it that we want to transform from a human being to the human animal. in the present scenario does marriage as an institution needs an overhaul. is it time for the no. of male in the society be reduced.
not so complicated, it's about a woman exploring true freedom and not be controlled by her new fixation. She tells him she isn't leaving her family for him, and he falls into line and settles for what he can get. Just like her husband.
Well of course she could do it for her teacher's approval before she could do it for money. The motivation of a true dancer.
One of the realest movies I've ever seen
I don't get it. She just goes into this man's house without knowing him?

Kerry Fox 😍 💘 🔥
Are they a real couple, I was shocked when I watched this it is so graphic, she was touching him intimately in one scene.
No they are not a couple. Kerry Fox’s husband talked about how it was seeing his wife perform oral. Crazy lol
best movie !! esta pelicula recuerdo que solo vi 20 minutos y ya era de mis favoritas no por las escenas sexuales si no por el realismo checala !!!
Me pregunto si habra chicas asi como el personaje de la actriz en la vida real

So every story must fit your criteria
or simply must not exist? Build a bridge and get over yourself.
