His music is basically ignored these days, but it can't be overstated that for over a decade, this guy's music was everywhere.
Yeah, it kind of is, isnt it? I wonder why. I just started playing guitar, and as I start to get the hang of it, I'm thinking of all the songs I'd like to play and JCM keeps popping up. He indeed has a large ouvre of solid tunes.

Such a fun song, I used to play this and a few other cougar songs in the 80s and 90s. John is a great acoustic player. Must people I talk to thinks he mostly a singer not true at all. He's written so many great acoustic songs.

I've been trying to get back into playing guitar lately. I've realized that I have been playing some things incorrectly. This one being an example. It's deceptively easy sounding. The chords I was playing was not what JCM was playing. The main riff/chords. Glad I found this channel; it corrected 40 years of mistakes!! Thanks man!!

Been a fan of Mellencamp since I saw him on American bandstand performing “I need a lover” (1979) later a hit for Pat Benatar.Anyway John’s music is part of my childhood, I’m 58 and still listen to him. Check out his album Rough Harvest, perhaps my personal favorite. Hurt so good hits so hard! Thanks Marty!

My favourite Mellencamp song
I saw Johnny Cougar in Ann Arbor at a punk club in Ann Arbor ~ 1982, Was really good live.
I remember when this first came on the radio around 1982 and the DJ announced it was by “John Cougar.” Then later he added Mellencamp (his real name) and eventually dropped the Cougar (which I’m guessing he thought was cheesy). Correct me if I’m wrong! And he’s actually a well-respected artist now (as in paintings).
