A lot of people are excited about the GP5000 (Ollie included) and for good reason. The new tyre is claimed to have 12% lower rolling resistance than the gp4000 in a 25mm. Lower rolling resistance means a faster tyre and interestingly this has been backed up by independent testing. Dr Xavier Disley at Aerocoach recently performed some testing on a pair of 23mm GP4000 and GP5000s and found the 5000s were 4W faster at 45kph.
It doesn’t end there though, also claimed is 20% better puncture protection, an improved construction to reduce vibration and its 5g lighter than the gp4000 too. However, perhaps the most exciting development is THIS - a tubeless ready version. It’s a separate tyre from the clincher. As you can see it looks quite different and has a slightly different bead to help make it airtight. You can run it with an inner tube if you want, but to get the full benefits, Conti would suggest you run it tubeless as by removing the internal friction of the inner tube Conti reckons it has 17% rolling than the 4000.

I entered but didn't ask me about size or width. Also, couldn't select standard clincher in black.
Ollie really is the smoothest, most professional presenter.
John Batty --- Really? I can't stand him, so smug. Thinks he's hilarious, but really isn't.
@@Liofa73 it's that smug characteristic that makes him great!
I really enjoyed his Cycling Weekly "hill climb challenge" video.
a pair of these would look amazing on my current low budget build. Good Luck!
Yes please, they look amazing, I'm taping those rims up as you speak 👍
I wish continental would make a tan wall ! But yea still awesome knight look! I'll take the 28mm please
How many watts would they save if they had a tan sidewall?
All of them!
I don't know if your joking. But a tan side wall will surely heat up at different rate that the regular colored tire when exposed to sunlight, therefore they can actually have different rolling resistance. Although it might be just a tiny fraction of a watt.
Fun fact! 😁✌
Now that you have ridden these tires for awhile, is the data you have accumulated over the last year, on the same routes, any faster? I am about to get some this week. :-)
I'm a big Continental fan. Even the entry level Ultra Sport 2 tyres are a great product.
I promise if I win I'll do my best to go 45km/h to try them properly.. at least the few seconds i can hold that speed.
The Ultra Sport 2's are probably one of the best bang for the buck tires out there. While I don't have the worst roads in my area, I've never had a puncture before on them and can last up to 1500 miles before showing signs of flattening off on the tread.
your German pronounciation is actually pretty good for a non native.
I understood him better than most bavarians.
Hi GCN, I just purchased Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon SL rims and 5000TLs. The 5000TLs are not compatible with these rims (simply impossible to install, many others have same issue and bike shops are also unable to install this combo) Mavic have replied to my query to state that 5000TL tyres are not UST compatible.... How is this possible? Conti claim the tyres can be used on any tubeless ready rim!!! #torqueback
Just bought a pair of these tubeless at my local shop!
Oh that Graphene Ollie hair glory!!!🙌🏽
How wide to they set up? The GP4Ks were usually at least a couple mm wider than stated. EG the 28mm GP4K ballooned up to 31mm on my 20mm internal width rims.
Much narrower than GP4K. New 28c is very close in width to older 25c.
Data point from 23mm internal width rim.

Has a winner been announced on this giveaway yet?
I want these tyres in a skinwall
No tan wall ones?
Thanks for the insight. Always loved Continental tyres, bike and car 😂👍
You guys are a hoot! Calling a water bottle "fetching" left me laughing and speechless!
What is really awesome to me, is that the Tubeless variant has been tested to have by far the lowest rolling resistance of all 'normal use' road tires by an independent, non-sponsored organization.
I've been using Conti Grandprix TT for my new dream bike during summer, it was great but bit of worried of it's durability. Probably GP 5000 is my next shoes to go.
Not sure which width i should pick for my Campy Bora one 50 wheel, i've been using 25mm but now i'm curious of 28mm.
@chromeStrand Make sure your frame has the clearance for them. I can only put a 28mm on the rear and I'm still getting a bit of paint removal.
@@iancanuckistan2244 thanks for the tip! Yeah i've heard that some bikes have a chainstay clearance issue with 28mm. I should check mine before order(or win😉) one!
Continental gp rotation direction?
I can't wait to try them out!
I'd kinda like a studded version?
What is the best psi? My weight is 85kilos
If I win they will replace the ones I have which only lasted 100 miles and took a split thru side wall - has a stale puncture too but that would have gone thru most tyres
Really upset that I missed this. My 4000s are too new to throw away. Now I need to find some glass to ride around on.
this camera angle... looks like ollie's trying to put me to sleep.
After half an hour with new TL GP5000 have given up trying to fit them to my DT Swiss carbon rims............first time ever have been defeated by a tubeless tyre despite plenty of really soapy water, warming up the tyre and giving it a pre-fitting stretch! Anyone got any tips!
Another good tactic to use in addition to those you're already using is to try fitting the tyre with a tube, and inflating it so it seats, then remove the tube being careful to only unseat one side of the tyre - this should make it slightly easier to inflate - I hope you get there soon! The first time is always the toughest!
@@gcntech Ha.. ha.... if I could get both tyre beads over the rim and on the rim, I am sure they'd inflate in tubeless set up easily! Sadly the tyres are so tight, I cannot get them fitted.
Have spoken with my son who works at Canyon UK service centre, they were talking about this at work yesterday and issues with the GP5000TL, apparently Zipp are now saying their rims are not compatible with GP5000 , likewise Enve!
Will get some Schwalbe's , in the meantime will go back to running my new Aeroad with inner tubes.
The tubeless tyre is amazing but is so hard to get on the rim
Cant wait to test it in upcoming La Marmotte 🚴♂️
I really like the tire and this video!
Hop on eBay and you can buy GP 4000RS tires at cost right now. You're welcome, it's an amazing tire.
i just bought 8 GP4000s2 tyres at 60% off :-O
Where from?
Yes, do tell!
where bro
They're on sale quite often at biketiresdirect
You can get then on amazon for a similar/same price as biketiresdirect, but that's still a good deal. I was hoping for some mega-sale, $65 a pair 😁
I wish the answer was tubeless AND tan sidewall.
Advance Thank you GCN🤣
More gravel-bike stuff unboxing! :-) Last year you almost rebranded to "Gravel Cycling Network"...
Why the hack they dont offer 23mm TL... It's still the fastest solution for many Tubelessrims. Best is anyway 23 infront + 25 in the back
Because 5000 runs smaller than 4000sII.
The new 28c is only a bit wider than old 25c, Less than a third mm difference on my set-up.
The new 25c will run similar size to old 23c. (Just weight more and roll faster).
@@Hexsense Ive had Continental 23s almost as wide as 24mm, 25's as narrow as 24mm, and 28's as wide as 31mm. You wont be missing much by running a "25" in the front. Depending on how bumpy the road is, it may actually be faster. Regardless, with lower tire pressure capable, it will be more comfortable.
It might have something to do too high of a max pressure. 23's would have to be inflated over what is considered safe by Conti to be ran tubeless. The reason they are almost last to market with tubeless is their safety concerns. A smaller tire is harder to keep on a rim with fluctuations in manufacturing in consideration.
Awesome Tyre 😍😍
Not trying to sway the vote but I need some new tyres. John will hate me for this but my current tyres are a mix of two used sets.
I like this tire Continental
I see the hangover has worn off, your hair has perked up quite a bit.
Maybe, not TLR. That is Tubeless tyre.
One lucky winner wins one tire, lol. I just hope I win the next shoe giveaway.
Actually GP5000 is heavier than gp4000 because GP4000 runs one size bigger
My favorite thing to blow senseless money on is tires
And yet it always end up as being your most sensible purchase, especially if you upgrade your bike's tires first.
We all know that we don't need to wait until the end of the video to enter the giveaway.
700c x 28 plz.
choobless
sorry, whats the win?
There are 5 pairs of Continental GP5000 tyres up for grabs!
#captioncontest
I hope that @dr_oliverb gives that capron away on the GCN Tech show
700 x 25c Please :'(
Nice🧐
4watts @ 45kph? Yeeeeeha
what a beaut
#torqueback HEY...on a completely unrelated topic.... we finally got an answer to the question "What ever happened to Graphene"...the answer it seems is that our bikes will soon double as supercolliders www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-07848-2
I can't get the fucking things on
I will never buy Continental ever again. I've spent far too much money on them and often they don't last very long. For some reason they are very susceptible to side wall slashes. Perhaps if you have super smooth clean roads they are fine, but for riding UK country roads they don't seem to be up to the job. Even their so-called gatorskins and 4-seasons are awful. They are also stupidly expensive.
You don't have to buy this one, you just have to win..😉
In my experience, Contis are much more durable and puncture resistant than Miches. Just my 2c.

Who wins theses? where are the winners published (no I'm not watching the videos to find out)? If these are not published in an easy to access venue then ALL your "giveaway's" are bullshit. I'm calling bullshit on all, prove me wrong.
I waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant
I want to use this at audax.ph 🙏🙏🙏
