Ah yes, thank you for pointing that out. These articles are old and changes occurred. Personally, I feel that the old trample dmg rule made more sense, but now you can soak up all the trample dmg with 1 creature in a band construction. Brothers of Fire rules page is great btw 🔥
@@TimmytheSorcerer funny how despite the changes making banding stronger, creatures with banding aren't that common in OS. You occasionally see Mesa Pegasus and benalish hero. Even though I have never tried it, I think Helm of Chatzuck could make it into a strong deck (maybe more in X-points).
@@lozkko Agreed, also trample creatures are not that common. Don't you think a creature like two-headed giant has some potential? For example in a green/red deck with Giant Growths and Blood Lusts?
@@TimmytheSorcerer I am not sure if it would be strong, but I would be the person who tried it in a deck 😂I had built a WR with weenies and army of Allah, which didn't really work that well as I didn't have trample, so I didn't do enough damage with the AoA. Maybe you need a few fatties with trample, I just need to buy a couple of two headed giants 🤟 I guess if I attack in banding with a Benalish hero and a Giant, and opponent blocks with a Serra, and I cast an Army of Allah, I deal three damages with the B Hero, and 6 with the Giant. So I can deal 4 to kill the Serra, and 5 trample damages, and only the Benalish hero dies. That could be quite spectacular 😂
Thank you for making this. I really enjoy this series. I especially like how it allows us a look into the mind set of the old school game back when it was current, without hindsight changing perceptions.
Thanks, that's great to read. I agree, if I look at my personal mind-set towards the game and the people I played with in 95 was totally different. On One of the biggest differences was the flavour perspective, looking at art and names on cards, and discuss what we think they did :)
Battletech CCG, the next game designed by Richard Garfield, featured banding. Not as a skill, but as a core mechanic: every mecha (creature) could group with any other(s) when attacking. The man liked that ability so much he built a new game around it.
This is only nostalgia. Do NOT try to learn the rules from this, as there are several important changes to both the banding and "bands with others" ability.
Asking a serious question here... why doesn't the old-school MTG community just use the old rules from 93/94? I'd assume they all know it. While I agree a lot of the rules were streamlined for the better in later MTG, rules for banding and trampling were changed for the worse. Just wondering.
In the Duelist you can find articles about the uber difficult way the rules worked before the stack 🤯 I can't even remember how I used to do things back in those days. Probably didn't know or care enough as a kid Timmy 😅
I believe that the rules on trampling and banding have changed
Not sure why I couldn't do a screenshot brothersoffirelondon.blogspot.com/2019/06/old-school-rules-faq-july-2019-by.html?m=1

Banding was such cool and actually useful ability. Band with others on the other hand... ugh.
Bands with others, what a mess 🤦🏼♂️

sounds like a great ability (to explain to your oponents all the time)
😂 The Brothers of Fire actually wrote a great blog about it, brothersoffirelondon.blogspot.com/2019/06/old-school-rules-faq-july-2019-by.html
Great, now I need to spam the discord with a banding deck 😊
😂😂😂

Wow, thanks for sharing didn’t know that 🙌
Nieuwe Banden... Quick Fit? 🤘🦁🤘
😂
Boy, that really doesn’t clear things up at all, 🤣🤣🤣.
I think it actually got more complicated 😅 and the trample/banding rules have also changed since 🤣
