    Pine64 kinda reminds me of how Microsoft experiments with device form factors for Windows (like the Surface Devices). But for Linux. I currently use an HP Elite x2 G1 for taking notes at school with Stylus Labs Write 3. But I imagine that people will want to use their PineNotes for notetaking. The PineNote, being a new form factor for Linux, will probably push the envelope in terms of foss stylus notetaking apps on Linux (which other than Xournal++, currently seems to be a category which is nonexistent), which is something I'm excited for!

    Another #RK3399 machine, just got to love this! And this one is a version I don't own yet, the #RK3399S... Very very tempting!

    • @sgodsellify
      @sgodsellify 2 года назад

      Do you if this version of the RK3399S SoC have a built in NPU (AI hardware)? I know the RK3399 pro SoC has a NPU built in, and it is rated at around 2.4 - 3.0 TOPS. If this RK3399S versions has a NPU, then I could use it for speech recognition (language processing), or for the camera, do some Image recognition, or object detection? I would definitely get this phone for sure.

    This looks pretty sweet - could be the one. So I guess for a user that wants a Pinephone as the daily driver, but maybe isn't super techy, then we just need to sit tight for a while and wait for software to develop a bit more? And perhaps Manjaro won't be the best OS for this type of customer.

    • @EpicB
      @EpicB 2 года назад +2

      As a piece of hardware, the PinePhone, especially in Pro form, does seem ready for primetime. But the software definitely needs time to develop.

      Honestly as long as it doesn’t overheat the battery life doesn’t matter all that much to me
      Just get a pretty big portable battery doc
      Should last for like 5-10 charges easily enough to last all day even is the normal battery life is only like 3 hours

      why is that an important question (unironically) ?

    • @Storin_of_Kel

      @@EthanLR not sure what unironically means, I'm not a native English speaker so not sure if this was a serious question on mine, but I'll treat it as such anyway.
      The Pinephone is an awesome product for anyone, including the pen test community. For me it would save me the hassle of walking around with an RPi with monitor mode enabled antenna and GPS module. In other words, walk around and enjoy scanning while inside a large building to ensure your wireless network are up to standard.

  • @alliselectrical4381
    @alliselectrical4381 2 года назад

    Good update, but screen resolution should be at least 1080p and not 720p, which is definitely not enough nowadays. Also front camera only 5MB instead of minimum 8mb, 6 cores instead of 8 cores. Sorry this is absolutely not for us normal folks. I am using Linux since 1999 and fully since 2004, and it would be a dream to use Linux on the cell phone too. But for now it seems like most of us unfortunately need to stick with shitty spying pro-Google Android Phones.

    • @armorgeddon
      @armorgeddon 2 года назад +2

      6 cores is as good as 8 when you don't have spyware and unwanted background processes occupying two cores all the time ;-)
      You can double (or more) the screen resolution by just holding the phone a centimeter further away from your eyes without even needing more battery power to do that.
      Regarding the cameras you should start judging their quality based on other units of measure than Megabytes LOL.
      If you want to run Linux on mobile on better hardware get an Android device which can run Linux or pre-order the Purism Librem5.

      @@armorgeddon Ich habe unbloated LineageOS 14 bis 17 auf Samsung Phones am Laufen gehabt, aber trotzdem genug RAM und mindestens eine Upper Midrange CPU sind auch dann noch wichtig, um ein flüßiges Handling zu haben. MP in einer Camera sind nicht das alleine Kriterium für Bildqualität, da gebe ich dir vollkommen recht. Aber Brennweite, Sensorgröße und Camera Software auch nicht, MP gehören definitive dazu. Gute Idee das mit einem Handy, welches Linux unterstützt, deshalb schaue ich regelmäßig bei Ubuntu Touch nach, ob neuere Geräte unterstützt werden. Aber bis jetzt sind die voll unterstützten Geräte nicht besser als 5 Jahre alte Geräte. Muß also weiter warten.
