People kill me, either we champion self care and preserving mental health or we don't....or is it ok for everyone except athletes? Should she have sacrificed her mental health for us in 2020? im glad she chose herself. Ironically Skinner wouldn't have had a chance to shine if she had stayed Also, I remember Skinner shading Gabby Douglas back in 2016. So maybe lets not keep goving her a pass to keep using social media to do this with no consequences for her actions. Skinner and Biles are the same age and came up together in the sport, so the 'everyone but Simone' in her original comment is not the save she thinks in criticizing the team and Simone not saying anything it is like cosigninging the remarks. Skinner should have sincerely apologized and moved on like an ADULT taking responsibility for her actions.
It is quitting, look at the reactions all over the world when she did that. Her being the leader and letting her team down during that competition was exactly that, quitting. How many other athletes passed through similar situations but they never quit even if their exercise wasn't as it should? Only Americans could justify such behavior.
Simone is the most underrated, most over achieving athlete and she has an amazing personality and sense of humor! She makes me feel so proud to be an American citizen! She is a positive, intelligent and very powerful tornado! I adore her for all I mentioned plus her humble, approachable demeanor!!!

Politics is the very definition of gymnastics. Simple reality of judged sports. I am not questioning her abilities, clearly she is one of the greats. Still she did turtle last Olympics. She should have just let the Gold speak for the team.
It's actually quite sad. Mykayla was trained by a gymnastics coach who used abusive practices, and she's apparently internalised that experience to the point she thinks SafeSport is a bad thing. Athletes do just as well with positive encouragement-based training. Negative/abuse-based training will get results, but at the cost of an athlete's psychological and physical wellbeing and safety. Case in point: Kerry Strug. Her career as a gymnast was over at 19 because her abusive coach made her do a vault despite having a serious injury.

People kill me, either we champion self care and preserving mental health or we don't....or is it ok for everyone except athletes? Should she have sacrificed her mental health for us in 2020? im glad she chose herself. Ironically Skinner wouldn't have had a chance to shine if she had stayed Also, I remember Skinner shading Gabby Douglas back in 2016. So maybe lets not keep goving her a pass to keep using social media to do this with no consequences for her actions. Skinner and Biles are the same age and came up together in the sport, so the 'everyone but Simone' in her original comment is not the save she thinks in criticizing the team and Simone not saying anything it is like cosigninging the remarks. It's actually quite sad. Mykayla was trained by a gymnastics coach who used abusive practices, and she's apparently internalised that experience to the point she thinks SafeSport is a bad thing. Athletes do just as well with positive encouragement-based training. Negative/abuse-based training will get results, but at the cost of an athlete's psychological and physical wellbeing and safety. Case in point: Kerry Strug. Her career as a gymnast was over at 19 because her abusive coach made her do a vault despite having a serious injury.
