I’ve watched the video a few times now and I think this will solve a problem I have on my Suzuki Samurai with the 1.6 turbo diesel. I believe the fuel drains back and it cranks hard to get primed again making it very hard to start. I think it’s worth a try to be able to drive it again… Thanks for sharing!
It's worth a shot. The little aftermarket check valves are not expensive and will definitely solve an issue with a fuel transfer pump that's leaking back. A bad glow plug , wiring or timer can also cause starting issues on the 6.2. I've not had any experience with the Samurai diesels but generally most diesel engines can suffer from similar issues.
@@timbattle3415 Jerred's getting me motivated to start working on my old 7.3 IDI rollback. I need to get that thing back in business but it probably won't be a cheap fix.
@@KentuckyFriedFixes duuude! An idi 7.3 rollback is totally worth what it takes! Besides that could be a series for the channel. I know the 6.2, 6.5, 6.9, & 7.3 all use the same standyne db pumps
Nothing against them olive drab boys ! But I was haze gray 😁 .. really!!!! Why didn’t you cut that out ? What made you think we would mind seeing actual wrenching on a wrenching channel? 🤪 ✌️🤙
Cool video Chris, I’ve always wanted one of these trucks. There really built to last. A friend of mine has a crew cap square body from the military but it has a 454. Are there other plans for the truck? Would look forward to more video about the truck. Thanks for sharing.
I think Jerred wants to do a complete restore on this one. He's getting the mechanical stuff out of the way first as time permits. It's tough to do a restore while working a factory job. Not a lot of time left over at the end of the day. I know he just recently dropped a bunch of cash into it for a fresh transmission rebuild at a local shop. He could have done the transmission overhaul himself. He's rebuilt auto transmissions before but didn't have the time to get to it before Winter. Now he's been going thru the electrical systems, starting/charging etc. I love the truck, you can't kill those things. I'd like to see it put back to original but I do like the wheels and roll bar he's put on it. That lift kit though, I'd need a step ladder to climb aboard. 🤣 Thanks!
Great mod but yuck, I hate hose clamps. PEX style ear clamps do a much cleaner installation. The only drawback to ear clamps is that they are single use but the cleanliness is worth the price of admission in my mind. Thanks for posting.
These military versions are my favorites. Evidently Jerred's not afraid of pink shocks. I've always heard a real man isn't afraid to wear pink. 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks
The check valve mod is really a fix for a weak (therefore failing) mechanical fuel transfer pump. It prevents the fuel from draining back into the line when the engine is not running (the fuel transfer pump normally does this when it's working properly). You could theoretically place the check valve anywhere between the tank and the injection pump inlet. It was just easier to place it up front near the firewall on this one. It's not a restriction to fuel flow, like a filter would be, so you could theoretically place it in the fuel line before the transfer pump. Anywhere it would prevent the fuel from backing up into the line and therefore the fuel tank.
I've worked on several threw the years as they started phasing them out for the Humvee when I was a young Pfc we would get a few new guys ever year luckly my Colonel was always up for a good joke so I would send them all over the motor pool in search of an ID 10 T form the keys for a humvee
We had these when I was in the Air Force in the mid 80's. That's about the time they started sending HUMV's to the bases. I liked the Chevrolet trucks built to this standard better than the Hummers myself. Even though the CUCVs weren't made for front line use, that's fine by me. My H3 wouldn't fare well if it drove over a mine either but I don't have problems with mine fields here locally. 🤣🤣🤣

My check valve came in and I will be installing it today. Really excited to see if it solves my diesel fuel problems. Thanks again!
Oh hell yeah, we're brother cousins! I originally came to your channel for mini bike engine stuff and I also have a M1009 cucv blazer.
I love that stuff too Tim! Those M1009 vehicles don't die easy for sure!

The front and rear shackles on the bumpers are for lifting with cranes for cargo loading.
