    Beautiful tank, one note, could be wrong, but the way your UV is set up, the water isn't touching the bulb. It's just draining from one end to there other. The inlet and the outlet need to be point up, or stand up vertical to ensure the water is touching the UV light and filling up. If you have a valve on it to build up pressure, then you may not be getting the recommend flow thru it. Which I think is about 150 to 200 GPH.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  4 года назад

      You are correct as the placement is not ideal (should really be vertical) but it’s the only spot that I could fit it. That being said it is accomplishing its main job for me of keeping the water crystal clear :)

    • @brandywine3235
      @brandywine3235 4 года назад

      @@ReefDudes Do you have a valve on the outflow so it build up pressure? One, UV too long can kill good things in the water. Or the bad, which the water isn't even touching the UV light.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  4 года назад

      @@brandywine3235 The UV flows to the cryptic reactor next then back to the sump. threre is decent flow going through it. i fully expect to be an air bubble in the top but the reactor shoudl be about 75% ish filled (my guess) its slighly slanted up to help reduce it.. not perfect, but doing the job! Most of the good bacteria is on surfaces so not overly worried about the little bits in the water column :).

    Congrats man! I see some of your lps not doing so great (your sps and Euphyllias are thriving though). Do you think it’s because of to much white light of the radions G5s Pros? I have a lps dominant tank, and when I try to whiten the tank they immediately start to struggle, even though they’re on 30 day acclimation mode.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  4 года назад +1

      Hmm I have not considered that. I did Icp test the tank a month or yep and nothing was overly out of whack. I’ll try moving some to lower light or shadows abs see if there is any reach change

    Looks awesome! Quick question about your refugium: I thought I saw some growth on the side glass that looks like the spirulina that grows in mine (green, slimy stuff). If so - does it ever choke out your macro? I can't seem to keep my chaeto healthy and I've noticed every time it goes down hill its due to the spirulina getting more abundant. Any tricks you'd recommend?

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  4 года назад +1

      No issue there. If your chaeto is fading on you make sure your not low on iron

    Acans are one of the first LPS to respond to low or zero phosphate by shrinking. Some of your Euphyllia looks contracted as well for the same reason.. With that much LPS you dont want phosphate below. 03. If that checks out try iodine.

      Sadly lost him before he moved into the new tank. I foolishly added a "new fish" Golden angelfish to the same temporary tank he was in during the tank move.. and sadly it had something and took them both out..(sadly it was last xmas too to make it worse. It was heartbreaking as he was my fav. It was a hard lesson on QT Everything.

      Most of the things I add are to automate stuff I was doing manually. Many things are overkill but it’s my hobby! I love to automated and tweak. You could absolutely have a simple tank with out all the tech(but it’s part of the fun for me).
      Ex last night. Was looking at apex abs saw a big drop in temp and was like what the ..go out and see the wife left the window open. Closed it. Happy house again! :)

    Shame about the sailfin. You should medicate it with antibiotics before it loses that eye. Feeding well isn't going to help it at this stage. There used to be an eyedrop medication that worked wonders but I'm not sure if it is made anymore. Back in the early 2000s people started taking aquarium meds to treat themselves since its the sameds to treat humans. So fda put a lot of regulations on meds.

      @@ReefDudes unfortunately it has been 15+ years since I last used that product at the lfs I worked at. I tried looking it up but I only seen maracyn as your best treatment. It should also help with the lateral line infection. Unfortunately that means you will have to quarantine him. With the state the eye was in in the video. Feeding him well isn't going to save the eye. You might be able to contact your local vet for an eye drop style antibiotic treatment which would work best. That's the type of medicine I used to treat the fish with popeye at that store.
