Thank you for sharing this beautiful instrument and what it can do. Always drawn to the beats and I didn’t know where it originated . I’m still not sure actually because its found in ancient Africa as well as North America. All I know is I grabbed a cake pan and discovered I’m a natural at it..
Kalani, Great Videos here! I have an “opinion” question about slaps. Sometimes I use a conga slap instead of the traditional djembe slap. It has at least in my experience a much sharper effect. Do you feel I should stick to djembe slaps?
Love this lesson n rhythm! Is there a particular reason you’re playing bass w ur left hand during second rhythm? In the first rhythm you start w right. I was thinking from other vids that you are right-handed(?) Just wondering if there’s a particular reason for switching the starting hand. Thank you so much for sharing these!
Late to the party on this, but it is because he is playing the bass tone with his left hand before the one. His left hand hits on the and of four from the previous bar and then his right hand slaps on the one to continue the rhythm. No idea if you're still interested, but hope this helps if you are 🙏
Try playing |tsstss|tsstss|tsss-s|s-bttt| at first, then replace every "t" in |tsstss| with double strokes by inserting an additional tone inbetween "t" and "s".
Sir My name is Arun Balaji contacting you from Chennai Tamilnadu India Iam a percussionist and i want to learn Djembe Can you suggest me the right place to buy the instrument
Try to get a West African-made drum, from Guinea, Mali, or Ivory Coast. I'm not sure who is selling drums in India. If you can't find anyone there, email me through my website, kalanimusic.com.
Balaji PS Hello Mr.Arun Balaji, myself Yudi, I have been manufacturing and selling Djembes in India. I'm based in Delhi. You can call me on 9920867374. Thank you.
There are some additional accompaniments that are not demonstrated here I suggest that you do some more research and update this video to avoid confusion. With all due respect these traditional African rhythms have been preserved and passed down for centuries its important not to distort them especially if you decide to teach.
One of the best ones yet. Our group plans on learning it. Thanks.
Rule No.1 : No Ornaments
Just Kidding, Brilliant as usual😍
APA TI---- Best Djembe,
Very clear instructions. Also, your audio is steady and understandable. Some other sites have poor audio quality.
Very cool rythm. Mr. Kalani... I'm learning a lot. Like. Me as starter.. 👍👍👍. Thank u sir
Thanks alot. I'm taking a class but was behind. Its funny I slowed the video down and it made you sound drunk. Ha
Ive seen many others but they don't make it fun, easy and clear like this guy.
Just a small suggestion if you could write down the pattern of the drum in the form of BTS
Wow, that cleared up a lot for me. Super clear instruction and zen presentation. Thank you.
Beautiful Djembe

@@Misterdandamanify exactly, it's Guinean.
It's helpful to watch these videos after buying a djembe from a friend of yours, Jeff Holland.

I would say that congaslaps are pretty cool but the djembeslap doesn't make your hand stop... on the drums head
What time signature is this in?

Good instructions . Recommend
2:25 rythm one
4:36 rythm two
Resonance...
Awesome groove brother. Hey do you have a breakdown/tutorial for the additional drum-roll/flourish here? 7:51 Thank you!!!

Oh okay thanks :)
Those are 8th notes (TSS) starting with two 16th-notes triplets (TtSS)
I just realized 😳 that I played this rythm wrong. The handsetting en tones were ok but the rythm I played wrong...

podrías subtitular tus vídeos en español? por favor!
I'll do my best.
yo puedo entender lo que nos enseñas, pero hay pequeñas cosas que no. te agradecería mucho si pones subtítulos! Gracias por lo que nos das.
I thought playing a hand drum while wearing a ring is a "no-no" because you can damage the drum or flatten the ring.
Cool! I had no idea such a thing existed. Thanks!
3 3 uh uh 4 4 got it 👍
Great drumming! please take off your ring and set a good example for everyone else!
I loved the video but could you speak a bit louder?

Playing with a ring on maybe not the best tip my friend.....!!!
Silicone ring. Won't damage the drum.
