@@wheelerd02 I did the job for over 25 years over 3 different councils. The majority of drivers I worked with always jumped out and helped in cul de sacs and backups. As you said above, the driver wants to get done as much as the loaders. It used to be a great job, not so much now and I'm too old for all that lugging of heavy bins now. I could still drive I guess, but I'm happy with my Dj'ing now. Nice to see a crew with 3 loaders now as well, don't see that very much. Years ago on backdoor collection I was with a driver and 2 other loaders, but the majority of wheely bin rounds now have a driver and 2. From a fellow ex binman respect to you and your crew. Occasionally over the years we did say sometimes to a driver to stay in the cab and just drive so we could load quicker (all brings hometime). But yeah you have a good crew there. Respect.
I always thought the driver did nothing but drive until i started watching your video’s now i know they actually get stuck in helping out
Not to say all drivers get out equally, some are steering wheel attendents who aren't keen on exercise. I just want the work done as much as anyone else.

Bit of pratting around helps to trust me gardener by trade that can get boring quick so music on dancing like a nob helps lol

Rear view camera flickers due to Go Pro/screen refresh rate incompatibility, or it could be due to shutter speed.
Like some videos of helicopters where it looks like the rotors aren't rotating
ALSO, on this particular vehicle the whole lot turns off a few times everyday. Sometimes it knocks the camera out or worse, bins get stuck half way up the vehicle. Meaning I have to turn the whole lot on and off again - very frustrating
Only vehicle in the yard that does it. I have been advised not to put it through the truck wash as I makes the electrical problems worse

I did some time at Castle Point too, no wheelie bins everything is handball
Canvey Island is interesting to get around with all the parking and narrow avenues

Our crew has a Nickname it's the A team and we all have our own nicknames I'm called fox cus I'm fast and quiet when working the other one is called wolf cus his beard and the other one is called gangster cus he walks like one haha
Team work is key to making the job work. Its good to hear you have nicknames, which lends itself to you all getting along well.

Are they planning to digitise your not out list etc. We use a system called white space on ipads. Road names from your round are on them, you find house number and tick the exception. IE not out, contaminated and lists the types contamination . I now do a trade round and the only issue with whitespace is it never keeps the round in order. so 100 jobs can be random on it. With round changing every day, with weeklies, fortnightly's and monthly's it can be a ball ache. So i do it mainly by memory and find the jobs to tick off , in batches
No news on in cab technology as yet, solves some problems and introduces others by the sound of it.
@@wheelerd02 It does mean, that the house that claims you missed their bin, is automatically on the computer system for customer service to know bin was not out or contaminated . You can take photos of no access etc as proof on it.
There are better software out there,, whitespace is ok and once you get used to it, its quick to use, but it can be problematic at times.. I think the main issue is on trade. On a normal round with road names, it works better
@@JoePeddie I can imagine it does streamline any issue reporting. However, the driver has more than enough going on anyway without a big touch screen gadget to sod about with.
Currently; A4 sheet of paper, watching/listening hawkishly for numbers, anything not written down *must* be returned to. Doesn't matter if you can recall exactly what it looked like and if it is a problem every collection, if it isn't written down you're going back.

Iv been in the job 21 years, done both. A majority of the time pen and paper and only the last 5 years digital. Its faster and easier digital, couple of clicks and you are done . Even easier if you are used to gadgets, as i can imagine you are .

Does the rubbish go straight to landfill site or does it now go to a transfer station to be sorted
At Chelmsford there was kerbside separation of recyclables (regular contamination due to residents). These would be tipped wither in the yard or at the cardboard/compost facilities.
When I tipped a general waste motor it was carted off my artics for incineration.
Seatbelt usage is very high for u 😂😂😂

Don't be pressured by other vehicles, they will have to wait.
Crew safety and that of pedestrians os paramount, take your time, no unnecessary risks.
Bring plenty of food and drink, never know where you are going to end up.
Bring gloves, a spare pair and another pair. No telling what wet messy bits you may come into contact with.
Take all vital phone numbers before you leave the yard.
Sunglasses! Also anti bac cream and hand moisturiser, does a number on your skin I found in this job.
Be safe, let's all get home tonight. If you cannot access a street/collection bins, leave it. It will have to be done another day. No waste is worth smashing up motors or potential injury.

Your rear camera is that no a safety issue mate in my depot we wouldnt be aloud to use a truck with rear camera fault it looks like its not working properly love your vids tho from scotland 👌
It only flickers due to the refresh rate and my GoPro shutter speed not matching

No banksman, only "reversing assistants" which are the loaders. That is on a request basis as well, they are not obliged to help unless asked
Would have to be a request every time from me. Public can be unpredictable
Where does the general waste go?
Emptied into a Veolia transfer station into big piles on numbered bays.
Then a front loading shovel loads it into walking floor trailer artics for onward travel to landfill
What’s that clipboard for that you use
A wooden/fibre one they supply as part of the vehicle folder pack, can't imagine they're too expensive

It has a crew reporting sheet on the front so I write down any addresses with side waste, no bins out, extra bins, overflowing etc. In doing so when the household reports any issue I can just point to the paper and say we ain't going back
