I remember you as my assessor in President's Award K.U. You always encouraged us to keep walking, lean on each other. Watching your film Gitonga was such an inspiration.
Gitonga’s story is captured in our award-winning documentary film here ruclips.net/video/UOmhHbLMejQ/видео.html. The film won Best Documentary at Kenya’s Kisima Awards 2020, premiered on NTV and K24, and made official selection at the prestigious Banff Mountain Film Festival in Canada. We hope you enjoy - he and his story are an inspiration to so many.
Sounds familiar. I've never forgotten how Mt Kilimanjaro rejected me just when I got to kibo base camp. I was feeling terrific all the way leading my clients through the two camps and I think Kili was watching and wasn't happy. I looked happy into my fifth day so when I just got to the kibo camp, I threw up hard. Then things spiralled out of control. I tried to start the summit with the group in the night but my guide from his observation insisted I descent immediately.
Wow! Don't I just love these stories. The grit, tenacity and determination that is mankind is beautiful to behold. Maya Angelou's poem "Still I Rise" comes to mind. Good stuff Gitonga.
Thank you Gîtonga for sharing your journey with us; yours is one of the most beautiful, motivational, and inspirational stories that I have ever heard. Yours is a great lesson that, indeed, one can go after their heart's desires and dreams, if they put their mind into it. Continue inspiring us and leading us to the mountains whenever they summon us. ❤❤❤
