  • Water leaking from the plastic cap on the top of your outdoor hose spigot ( the anti-siphon valve ) is a fairly simple fix. With a couple parts and two tools you are ready for an easy DIY repair.
You can purchase an outdoor spigot kit to repair your hose bib spigot. Just be sure to match the manufacturer of you existing faucet on Amazon:
Prier C-144KT-807 Parts Kit for Style Prier C-144
    by Prier
    amzn.to/329IGPN
Woodford RK-17MH Wall Hydrant Repair Kit
    by Park Supply of America
    amzn.to/32bov3P
Legend Valve 108-138 Dual Vacuum Breaker Repair Kit, 5.5"x2"x1"
    by Legend Valve
    amzn.to/3ddJFV7
The key part is the plunger portion of the anti-siphon valve.
This most likely cause of the problem is the anti-siphon valve - a plastic fitting and plunger that can be easily replaced in most cases. The plunger and get jammed due to age or debris. The most difficult part of the repair is unscrewing the plastic fitting as they can be tight and prone to breaking. Pay attention to how the pieces come out so that reinstall is as simple as possible. But once that is done, replacement is a breeze.
Knowing how easy it is to fix a leaky an outdoor water spigot will take away some of the hesitation.
A leaky outdoor spigot needs to be addressed as the leaking water against the house foundation can lead to bigger problems to saying nothing of your water bill.
So stop the leaky outdoor hose bib by taking a few minutes to chase down the problem and find the proper repair kit at your local home store.

I'm going to guess this vid just saved me $1-200 from a plumber visit for something I fixed in 3 mins. The little gasket inside had shifted, and I had a geyser when I turned it on (blew the cap off the top). Took it apart as you showed and put the gasket back on and tested perfect. Thank you for taking the time to make this vid.

What would the world be like without videos like this? Love running across the how-to's that are straight to the point. Off to the local hardware store to pick up a couple of these repair packs. One for the broke one... and one for each of the others that will undoubtedly never go bad since I'll have planned to be ready for "when it happens". Great job... thanks!

I am glad I found this video. I haven't changed those pieces yet. But took it apart to see if it was dirty. It looks clean but still leaks from the top. I do not notice any cracks though in the plastic. I can see the piece moving up and down but several minutes after the hose is turnfed off if still leaks. :( I hope once I replace those parts it works.

      Hey MrCody…,
It would not hurt to get the manufacturer name off your spigot just in case the packaging of the lowes parts list comparable fixes. Lowes may have a “ universal “ or generic kit or they may have an exact match. My guess is there are very similar parts. I honestly don’t remember that being an issue. Hopefully it goes simply for you. Thx for watching!

I'm trying to connect a water timer. Without the timer there is no leak. Once I connect the timer I get a leak just like in this video. Any suggestions?

      Hey Kathy,
The goal is to spot where the water is coming from. My guess is that there is no washer in the female portion of the connection. Just like when you connect a garden hose to a faucet, there has to be a rubber washer in the hose connector or you get a bad leak.
Hose washers come in multi-packs and are pretty inexpensive.
      That is my best guess.
      Hope that helps.
      Thx fir watching.

Do you need to turn the water off to that valve before doing the fix?

      Hey Dan,
I simply turned off the water at the faucet. By turning the water on and off a few times I was about to loosen the diaphragm and save the full repair.
      Hope that helps.

The plastic case broke in the threads. How can I get it out and not damage threads?

      Hey Helen,
You could try a tap. Tap and die kits cut threads. I’m not 100% sure , but it seems like the tap might be a way to cut right through the plastic remains - (carefully drill out some of the plastic, then use the tap.)
      Just an idea.
Another idea - use a screw extractor - which digs into the remains of a broken screw to remove it. Plastic is much more brittle, it may remove it OR chew all the plastic up. In that case, then try the tap to get the rest of the plastic out.
      Sounds like a project!
Hope this helps & thx for watching!

What does it help if the clear plastic is stuck?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  2 года назад

      Hey W,
The plastic piece holds the red/orange rubber plunger under it. If your plunger is stuck, then that plastic piece has to come out to get at the plunger. Because it is plastic, it breaks easily - bit of aa pain. Thats why the kit has all those pieces.

Replacement added.... Still leaking.... Doesn't seem as if the rubber gasket is correct nor tight enough...

      Hey Timothy,
That’s a pain! Not sure. Could be defective, could be wrong manufacturer.
Maybe try to replace all the guts??
