Welcome to another episode on Baking Tips. In this video, I am answering most frequently asked questions around selection of cake tin size. Quantity of cake and weight and other baking nuisances that you must keep in mind to get great baking results.
How To Make Eggless Vanilla Sponge :
Ingredients :
1/2 cup milk + 3 tbs milk
1 tbs lime juice
1/4 cup oil (any odourless)
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
1/2 cup icing sugar
3/4 cup all purpose flour (maida)
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
A pinch of salt
Some water (to brush over cake)
1 cup melted whipping cream
Some freshly chopped strawberries
Approx 100 gm sliced almonds
Method:
Take a small bowl, add 1/2 cup milk with room temperature add 1 tbs lime juice
Take a mixing bowl, add 1/4 cup oil (any odourless)
Add 1/2 tsp vanilla essence
Add 3 tbs milk
Add 1/2 cup powder sugar
Add milk and lime mixture, mix it well with the help of hand whisker.
Place food strainer in it, add 3/4 cup all purpose flour
Add 1/2 tsp baking powder
Add 1/4 tsp baking soda
Add a pinch of salt, seive and mix it well.
Further take a 4/6/8 inch round shape cake tin, place a butter paper on it greased with oil.
Pour the mixture and place cake tin in preheated oven for 10 mins at 180⁰ and bake it for 25 mins
(To bake it on stove pre heat pan and bake it for 30-35 mins)
Rest it for an hour when it's baked and then remove from the mould (insert knife from the sides first, clear the sides and demould it on a plate)
To level the cake, slice the top off with the help of knife.
Cake Tin Size & Baking Tips :
1) While using 3/4 cup or less than 3/4 cup all purpose flour (maida), prefer 4 inches tin.
2) While using 3/4 cup to 1 cup maida, prefer 6 inches tin.
3) When you use 1.5 cup to 2 cup all maida, prefer 8 inches tin.
4) Using 8 inches tin gives a very flat cake, it doesn't look as professionally baked cake once icing is done.
5) Using 6 inches tin will also give a flat cake, single layer icing icing can be done on this cake.
6) Using 4 inches tin will give a good height to cake and you can make 2 icing layers with it.
7) 1/2 kg cake can be baked in 4 inches tin and also in 6 inches tin.
(Height enhances beauty of the cake, 4 inches tin is advisable for professional baking)
8) 1 kg cake can be baked in 6 inches tin, it contains 400 - 500 gm sponge, to be made with more than 1 cup maida.
9) 1.5 - 2 kg cake to be baked in 8 inches tin, use 1.5 - 2 cup maida and your sponge is aaprox. 800 - 900 gm
10) Use 6 inches tin while baking cake at home, it is suitable for household cake baking.
(4 inches tin is not easily available in the market)
11) Beginners should start baking with 6 inches traditional alluminium tin.
12) Silicon moulds are not advisable for cake baking as it can be baked uneven.
Hope these tips are useful for all the Passionate Cake Bakers.
Bring on the Baking!!!

@@MeghnasFoodMagic please what's the name of your cake tins, or kindly share link to purchase exact same tins
Thanks a lot ma'am for your acknowledgements but ma'am i have two question. Plz guide me on them.
1)That at the time to preheating do we also have to keep our cake moulds in convection oven or not?
2) ma'am if we use different sizes of moulds so will they put any effect on the baking time and temperature of the cake and if yes then how much ?
Ans
1. No you should not keep your cake moulds inside while pre heating
2 yes baking time may vary according to height and and amount of batter in the mould always fill 3/4 of your tin and not more than that I personally fill the pan 1/2 way only it will effectively bake the cake and it comes out pretttyyyy Flatt
Hope it helped
Pre heating means just heating the oven .. typically when you start mixing ingredients you keep your oven for pre heating so that in 10-15 minutes your cake batter is ready to go into pre-heated hot oven.
And no size of moulds won’t change the timing or Temperature. Though it is advisable to check after prescribed time to see if the center of cake is baked or not with a toothpick.
@@humasamreen2431 so unless you are baking cupcakes the time temperature won’t change in my opinion but yes it could vary a little oven to oven
Thank you for this 👍🏻👍🏻
Very helpful video...it cleared my doubts...Also do this kind of video for brownie too
Thanks, Meghna for an excellent video.
But would highly appreciate it if you could also advise the height of the pan.

I don't understand what are the unlikes for... And I was the one who were waiting for so long ... Long waited for this detailed explanation video... Thank you so much mam ❤️
Coz this is totally nonsense .
Everyone knows that if we bake in wide pan it will be thin and in small pan cake will be tall 😤.
In fact i would always prefer to bake 2 separate buns in 8 inch pan to gat a big and tall cake 🥱
So this video is not for you then. If you already know baking and understand tin size well. And by the way I prefer 4 inch tin and prefer to use 1.5 cake to get the height .. it’s all a matter of perspective of what you want kind of end result you are looking for
Happens some people don’t understand or don’t have patience to follow and understand. There are no short cuts in baking .
@@MeghnasFoodMagic so kindly mam ap wo cake share kar dain jis me hum 8 inch me b achi hight wala cake bana sakain pls

Hi can you please tell me which cake size tin to use for 340gm of cake premix we get in market. Will 6inch one be good? And with 6 inch tin how much height should be considered? 2inch, 3 inch or 4 inches. All depends upon 340gm of cake premix. In the oven, ensure that the baking is from both sides (top+bottom), not only from top
@@alvitocabral Thanks Alvito ! 😊😊
So first you have to ensure you use middle rack and second you have to ensure both upper and lower heating coil are on

hello mam, thanks for the help! I have a query regarding the ratio of flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda. At what ratio it can used to make perfect cake.
Hi Meghna! This was such an eye opener of a video for me, because I too wondered why my cakes don't have the 'height' I want them to have, I thought it was because of the my terrible baking skills.
Just one question I have, as I did more research on switching between cake tin sizes is that what is the temperature and bake time for each of these cakes. I think they'd be different for each one of them right?
Also, do we keep both the top and bottom coil on when baking cakes or do we just keep the bottom one on?
No dear temperature remains the same .. sometimes the timing may go up or down depending upon size of oven, so u need to check after 20 min of cake has been baked or not with toothpick. Also Your cake may not rise if increase not fresh too.. and make sure they are room temperature. Oven should be pre heat while u r mixing ingredients.
@@MeghnasFoodMagic Thank you so much for replying. I'll try your tips 🙂
4” and 6” tin baking temperature and timings are the same?
Yes ma'am same
Thank you thank you so much mam for this video you solved my problem also 😊👍

Hi maam.. I just have a doubt.. I'm baking a 2 cup maida... But I want to make it a tall cake.. So can I divide the batter into two 6 inch cake tins.. Which is 4 inch in height
Informative video.. just a request Meghna . Can you make a video on butterfly cake please
😂
Please share the measurement of ingredients for a standard 2 cup maida vanilla cake
You have 1.5 cup ingredients in description right? So multiply by 4 and divide by 3 for all the ingredients so u will get 2 cup measurements
Best video tutorial for a beginner . Thank you so much. God bless you .
My pleasure 😊
Thank you so much for information was searching for it....well explained
Thank you 👍
When I bake cake the upper layer gets harder but inside will be correct . What is the reason..🙏🏻
Because the amount of your dry ingredients are more and don't open the oven before it is done
After bake done cover ur cake with transparent sheet for 30 minutes
Cover aluminium foil over the cake tin.
Poor heat distribution may also cause upper layer getting hard and burnt.
I also hv same problem
Each time I bake a cake it appears so flat. Your video cleared my dilemma. Thanks for sharing such a valuable tip which most of the time we beginners don't get what is getting wrong when the proportion of ingredients r right. Keep bringing such valuable content.
