- Tessa Thompson ("Westworld") and Ramy Youssef ("Ramy") discuss representation, working with Mahershala Ali, and the kind of dads they would want to play their fathers in their "Variety Studios: Actors on Actors" conversation. Thompson reveals though she'd already starred in "Dear White People," "Selma," and "Creed," she still sent in an audition tape for the pilot of HBO's "Westworld." bit.ly/VarietySubscribe

Omg yes
Tessa sitting on the throne, like the QUEEN that she IS ❤
"I dont want to work with white people" - Tessa Thompson.
@Kamil Szczęsny Funny to see how racist you regressive "anti-racists" really are. You only care about racism one way, while at the same time you're not even trying to hide your contempt for white people. Scumbag racist hypocrite.
toasteh It’s not contempt for white people. It’s Exhaustion with their privilege and with unfair privilege in general. Don’t call people names. Both of y’all
@@ambriaashley3383 What white privilege do I have exactly? I have worked hard for everything I got and white people dont get handouts for sitting around being white. Plenty of examples of unprivileged white people everywhere so what are you talking about? The irony of your assumption is that its racist as hell: grouping all white people thinking we're all the same. Also, I see nothing but black privilege these days. Blacks say racist things and you get a free pass. White people just being *perceived* (even wrongly) as racist and we are ostracised from society, lose our jobs and have our lives ruined. And you talk about being oppressed/persecuted? Whites are now the ones being targeted for oppression/persecution based on our skin colour, and you racist scumbags are fine it.
@@tovsteh You're talking out your ass. Firstly, Tessa's comment, cause I'm sure you just listened to the various racist white youtubers who mischaracterized it, was that she doesn't want to work SOLELY with white men. She doesn't want to walk on a set and only see white men in every position cause poc from black people, native Americans, Asians, women of every race are competent and should be represented in positions both in front of and behind the screen. Additionally, white privilege doesn't mean your life wasn't hard or you didn't have to work hard, it simply means that you're not persecuted due to the color of your skin. Your life is not made doubly hard because you are a white person living in a country with systems that were set up by white people and therefore do not work against white people. I'm also really enjoying how you say "blacks" but not "whites". Instead you say "white people". Your language alone reveals your humanization of white people and disdain for black people. White people can never be oppressed in this country due to being white. Facing consequences for your actions is not oppression. As the saying goes, "when you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression." You're a perfect example of that. If you are racist you deserve to face consequences because we do not need racist people in positions of power. Black women are 200% more likely to die during childbirth because racist doctors perpetuate the FALSE notion that black women have a higher pain tolerance and do not listen to them when they are in desperate need of help. Black sickle cell anemia patients are turned away when they're having a pain crisis because racist doctors assume they're lying for drugs. Why should we allow racists to reach these positions? If you're racist you do not deserve to work in a country where you will encounter people of color. Period. Lastly, black people have faced consequences. Nick Cannon just did, so again, you're talking out of your ass. Just say you hate black people and go cause it's obvious you're just spewing bullshit to cover that up.
Tessa: *says something deep and meaningful*
Ramy: 😍😍😍
Actors on Actors is really on their game lately releasing a new episode almost every day. I guess just doing it over Zoom makes it a lot easier to schedule actors at the same time.
I love how serene and what a good listener Ramy seems to be. Just sitting there smiling and nodding the whole time.
Rami is so chill. His GG winning speech was hilarious!
Agreed! I think that it probably helps that he's a stand-up, so he's used to performing in front of a crowd and being used to them not knowing who he is or not necessarily instantly caring about what he's talking about.
i see Ramy, i click.
Same, same
same
this duo is literally my entire personality......variety really knows their audience I'm alksdfjaksdjfk
Yep Yep Yep Yep Yep Yep Yep Yep Yep Yep
Your personality must be pretty awesome
Tessa Thompson.. Giving pure queen 👑 vibes in that chair.. Youssef is unique. They both stand out as talented individuals in this industry.
His laugh is literally adorable
One of the best actors on actors I’ve seen so far. The conversation flowed so naturally and it was so insightful
Ramy deserves more attention and projects
My queen and king 😩😭 so happy they get to interview each other!
Ramy and westworld watchers on twitter saying Tessa needs an Emmy for this season of westworld is valid af. I wish she decided to campaign for it cause she killed it
I went from despising her character in Westworld to loving her, that’s the type of actress she is. Amazing.
she's also racist
I loved this man. We need this talented and cool ass duo in a project together

Tessa sitting on that chair is a vibe. Put some respeCKT on her name yall
Black Panther 2 Vibes!
She's feeling herself, hopefully after the ENDGAME Battle she goes to Wakanda to cool off for a bit & vibe with Shuri & the Gang!
As King of Asguard, she does what she wants!
Both of them are so awesome. I wish I could ask questions to these actors themselves, when they have these talks. How do you write a semi-autobiographical show based on yourself? Did he start writing it on his own or did he team up with other writers?
Tessa is such a vibe
Love these two so much ❤❤❤
Sequel to this please!
she's so fucking cool
Tessa ❤️
"What is it like winning awards? I've... never done that"

What has Ramy been in? Genuine question, any tips on good things to watch, that he has been in?
"Mr Robot" and his show "Ramy"

I dream of throuple relationships with Tessa, Ramy and me they are so cute
Lmao whet
you ain't the only one.
that hat and mustache remind me of cheech
why does she have a British ish accent? genuine question, not hate. Very curious, cuz I just checked, she's an American actor.
I think it also depends on where you live in America though. People from the Midwest talk differently from people near California. I’ve lived in both and I think the more you are around certain people, the more you are likely to start speaking like them and acting like them and she’s an actor so she must have traveled a lot. When I lived in the Midwest, I started speaking more like the people I surrounded myself with and when I moved to California and have come back to the Midwest, I realIze just how much the way I speak changed. But if we’re being honest, I don’t get a foreign accent from her. I think it may be a different place in America.
Strong Cheech vibes
Are they actors? Where?
Ramy has a show called Ramy and I am not sure about her. His show just released season 2. It is about an Egyptian and Muslim family in NJ.
@@prpr6731 she plays Valkyrie on Thor Ragnarok and Charlotte on Westworld
@@f2tima6 Will have to YT those shows or see if I can find them on Netflix. Thanks so much.
@@prpr6731 it's on Hbo and the other is a movie on disney+
Just read the description
Is that Cheech?
bro ramy u gotta get rid of that justin bieber moustache
When he is more feminin as she
whenever she has an interview it's never about acting , cinema ,movies ect , but it's always about race, sexuality and fighting the system . those tpic are ok but i'm like , bruh you just started ! , make yourself a name as an actress first , and then you can give lessons . for example , i wouldn't mind lessons from Denzel Washington or Angela Basset , two black actors who have gained popularity because of their acting alone . I'm just saying she's not an awful actor or anything ( she was great in westworld season 1 and although i haven't seen "creed" i know she's a fan favorite) but she's kind of one note and a little boring . she needs to improve her acting, focus on it , talk about it more .
i'm not joking literally ALL of her interviews are about social justice.. her latest work bombed ( MIB, westworld season 3 ) , she hasn't shined in anything since creed and westworld season 1 ( 2015 & 2016) , not surprisingly , she wasn't miscast / genderbent in both .
She said *she's* usually *asked* about social justice first. Which I can believe. If you're the minority in the room, people treat you like that.
You seem to have a lot of opinions on what she should or shouldn’t do...
So Season 4 of the MCU will be the worst so far because they're doing diversity for the sake of diversity
what does diversity for the sake of diversity even mean? there are characters of color and characters with various sexualities in the comics so why shouldn't that be represented on screen? why should we continue to have the same white or straight characters in every movie? other people deserve to feel represented on screen especially when the source material reflects that.
@@blkalldayy That's not what I'm saying though. It's basically like they're trying too hard to be diverse in their films that it just doesn't feel good anymore. You cznt just introduce the diverse characters all in one season. If you want to add them, you spread them out but from what I've heard, they're adding all the diverse characters in Season 4 purely for the sake of being diverse.
@@negative6057 I get your point it's kinda like what they did with captain marvel and the scene with all female avengers I endgame.I remember seeing that movie with my sister she loved that scene, she knows that it's forced and corny af,but still loved it,She hates captain marvel tho.My point is it's a bit cringy, but as long as it doesn't end up like BOP or Charlie's Angel's 2019 I don't mind.
AtomicAdamG What about inclusion doesn’t feel good? And why does it have to feel good to you for people of different races and sexualities to be included on screen? Ultimately, most mcu characters will still be straight and white. Most of the existing characters who are in phase 4 are straight and white. Most of the eternals are straight, thor is still straight and white, Christian bale is straight and white, Peter Parker, Wanda, vision, Bucky, starlord, drax, Jane, Loki and the list goes on and on. They don’t have to spread out inclusion for it to be palatable to you when it seems that you have no problem with everything being straight and white. They introduced characters of color and lgbt characters in the last phase and are doing it in this phase and the next. It’s not going to be one per year cause that’s not real progress. Somehow having various straight white characters is fine but including various characters from different cultures and races who therefore have different experiences and lenses through which they see the world doesn’t “feel good”. How is that not interesting? How is that not a perspective worth seeing in the superhero world? Stan Lee surely thought it was.
@@blkalldayy I think the argument he's making is that it would be like over the top feminist esc movies like BOP or Charlie's Angels or they will overpower them for no reason like captain marvel.I don't think he minds the characters having a love interest of same gender,no one cares. As long as plot and actual character arc comes first,no one really cares.
Tessa is such a hypocrite. She's talking about representation and diversity, yet she's a black woman playing Valkyrie, a white character from European Norse mythology, the culture of the Vikings of ancient Scandinavia.
