A great thing about arepas is that they are gluten free and they are light to the stomach... whether they are high or low in fat depends on the filling...!
Asi es! Nunca con una espatula! Arepas have to be mixed by hand, never with a spatula! A give him an A for his pride on his Venezuelan roots and keeping traditions!
Proudly born and, raised in Venezuela, also graduate from culinary school in Caracas and I absolutely hate (with passion) to use my hands in the masa. I use a whisk and a spoon, sometimes a wooden one. And in "Las areperas" (24 hour restaurants specialized in arepas) they use industrial mixers, just like the ones used in bakerys. Ps.: My stubborn mother recently gave in to the electric method, is great to make it by hand, tradition and all that jazz, but when she learn how fast she could make it...no going back
@@andreinae being far from Venezuela and my family, my traditions and "all that jazz" is all I got left of my country... I see both sides tho Viva Venezuela
Everyone makes them differently. My Abuela makes them about how he does, but my Abuelo makes them really big and flat and crispy. You can't open his up.
Apryll, arepas are rarely fried. You can put a little bit oil on the pan so that they don't stick, but when you have a well heated budare (a special pan to cook arepas), you don't need any oil.
I am from Venezuela too! But I’m from Carabobo. I loveeeeeeeeee the arepas with Reina pepiada😻😻😻 they are soooo freaking delicious and omgggg everybody should try them 😍🤩
@@daianaruiz5430 is a type of stuffing for arepas, probably the most popular, avocado and chicken with mayonaisse. In this recipe they add peppers but usually is just avocado and pulled chicken, is delicious either way.
Any Venezuelans in the house? Is "Arepa Flour" actually White Cornmeal just ground/milled down so finely it becomes a powder like Flour? Or, is Arepa a kind of Wheat ground into Flour that you just call Cornmeal colloquially? Thank you.
@@essemsween818 is corn flour, but it isn't the same texture as wheat flour. The one we use for arepas is a bit thicker than regular wheat flour. You can buy the most popular and traditional brand "harina P.A.N" in a lot of countries, or you can also make arepas with the corn flour use for mexican tortillas
Hi there! Original arepa flour is made from corn only, and is not the same as the mexican corn flour used to make tortillas, the difference is that the original arepa flour is precooked cornmeal the mexican is not precooked so the end result is not going to be the same. When I am not in my country I don’t have problems finding the most popular one that is called P.A.N. Comes in a yellow package. It is delicious and gluten free. 🙂
