  • Dr. William Schlesinger ’72, President Emeritus, Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies and former Dean of the Nicholas School of the Environment, delivered the inaugural Class of 1972 Speaker Series lecture, “The Energy-Climate Nexus: Is There a Pathway to a Sustainable Biosphere?” on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
The current human economic system is having a critical impact on the Earth’s climate, and thus the sustainability of the planet to support human endeavors and the natural biosphere. In the talk, Dr. Schlesinger will review the major anticipated impacts of climate change on the Earth’s system and outline some potential avenues that can guide us to the future.
This talk and the new series, which will enable the Irving Institute to bring a wide range of experts, scholars, and leaders on climate, energy, and sustainability issues, was made possible by the generosity and support of the Dartmouth Class of 1972.
Many thanks to William Aydelott ’72 for filming and editing the video of this talk.
