Yeah! There's also a great version on CD by Joe Gallant & Illuminati, who covered the entire Terrapin Station album. Thanks for watching!

Hi Edward! Steppenwolf is a really underrated band. I think they get ignored because everybody is burned out on their two big hits. You can't see a movie about the '60s or a documentary about Vietnam without hearing "Magic Carpet Ride" and/or "Born to Be Wild" on the soundtrack (along with "For What It's Worth").

Hey Michael, first of all, I'm not sure why I didn't leave a comment on this video when I first watched it a couple weeks ago. Sorry about that. But I circled back to let you know that I was at my local store today and found a sealed copy of the Bach coffee cantata/peasant cantata record that you spoke about. I enjoyed hearing you speak about it and the sample you played so I decided to pick it up. Thanks for the influence! 🙂

Thanks Bill! But do you think I get a kickback from that Bach character? No. What a deadbeat.

Michael, ''Ich bin der dreck unter deinen walzen'' ( I am the dirt beneath your rollers). The first time I encountered the word ''cantata'' was when I heard '' Monkberry Moon Delight'', '' so i sat in the attic, a piano up my nose, and the wind played a dreadful cantata''. Bach is my favorite composer, all modern Western music seems to be influenced or derived from his vast writing. Thanks for showing the ''adjunct'' Robert Hunter album. For the record, I am a Deadhead not a Meat head. ''Early Steppenwolf'' was the first album that I bought by them. My two favorite tracks are ''Power Play'' and ''Howling For My Baby', I wish those two had gotten the 20 minute jam treatment!

Ich bin dein geheime Schmutz, und verlohrenes Metalgeld! I love “”Monkberry Moon Delight,” one of my favorite songs on Ram, although for years I misheard “ketchup, soup, and purée” as “catch up, super-fury!” Yes, Bach is very much the wellspring of western music. Thanks for watching!

Hi Chris! The Mayf Nutter single is on Discogs...if you're looking at the list sorted by date, it's at the end with the "unknowns" although it's obviously from 1969. Thanks for watching!

OMG, the Coffee Cantata story was fantastic. Classical music is packed with great stories. And then you start doing German, very impressive. This was so interesting and enjoyable Damn lazy folks can do a proper band, lol. That early Steppenwolf aka Sparrow was very interesting. Sounds very interesting especially The Pusher and the deep blues tracks.

I was obsessed with Mexican Radio when I was in 5th grade back in 1983. My ears soaked in the open chords, the keyboard hook and the quirky vocals of Stan Ridgway.

I love the old Nonesuch label. This was one of the earliest releases on the label, from when they were reissuing a lot of European recordings for the American market, as is the case here. They seemed to specialize in music that was either very old--baroque or earlier--or very new, avant-garde electronic music and such. Nonesuch still exists, but they've moved away from classical towards more contemporary jazz and pop music. The label on my LP Hurtleturtled Out Of Heaven is a parody of the original Nonesuch label. Thanks for watching!

I love 'Black and Blue' and 'Cherry Oh Baby' got into a big argument about the record's validity on the smoking porch of my high school one day ( you could buy cigs when we went to HS, right Michael?) Without 'Radio Activity' would 80s synth-pop have been the same?

@@michaelpdawson How does the 2020 Radio Activity sound? I recently got a first press German 'Radio Aktivitat' that sounds , or has a different 'effect' let's say, than the American version on Capital. Unfortunately, none of the inserts were included in the copy I got, so I was thinking I'd try the 2020.
