  • Just wanted to stress the importance of a crucial step when installing the roof panel on your corvette to help insure that you latch your roof panel each and every time!!!! Just sayin... All it takes is once, and it could be a huge disaster....

    Solid procedure! I tell people the to allow no interruptions while taking the roof out or putting it in. That means all cellphone calls go straight to voicemail. One guy asked: what if my house is on fire? Me: LET IT BURN until you latch the 3 roof latches! 😂

      Don't be lazy waiting for. A sensor to let you know that one of your latches isn't properly close. What about if the sensor fail?? It can read that your roof is attached but it can be losen ? Another thing is the complaints about that sensor going bad due to high or low temperatures causing a fail in the sensors ...just be cautious and check your latches before to drive ... Simple

    I Hate it when the guy in the video says not many people make this stupid mistake and I feel like he's talking directly to me! Because I'm one who did. I was working on the roof panel (off the car) and started to put it back on, being careful to align everything just right then I got an emergency call into work, pulled the car into the garage and left.
    A week or two late I got into the car (dark garage) and headed down my country road. It sounded like the top exploded when it came off. It scared the bejeebers out of me. The top was ruined.
    Whenever I want to reinforce the lesson, I watch this video.

    I have the same velocity yellow corvette. was in vegas, valet took my car to park it and will put the top on it. next morning they bring my car up from teh garage, was a cool morning to I didn't take the top off and just took off. got on the interstate ramp and was at 45-50 mph and top comes off like I had pulled the ejection seat and canopy on a jet fighter comes off. I look up and see nothing and look in the mirror and top is drifting 20' in the air floating like a kite coming down to the ground so easy and flat. had very little if any damage, but I will not do it again. I lost the top on my 1993 Corvette once. I drove to work that morning with the top off. Then when I got to work I put the top on without bolting it in. (93 had Allen bolts and a wrench. I was running late and figured I'd probably take it off for the ride home anyway.) I Put the windows up and it looked fine. 8 hours later I forgot I didn't bolt it in and when I got on the highway going about 65mph it just flew straight up about 10 feet in the air and smashed on the cement. Lucky there was no cars behind me, however my top was glass/transparent and it
    had 1000 little cracks in it. True story!!

I got a phone call before I got in the car and got side tracked. 10 min later got in the car and started driving without latching the roof panel and woosh!! Bye bye top at 80mph... Scared the crap out of me. I'm just glad no one got hurt. I made the video to hopefully raise awareness to this issue and hopefully it saves someone for having to go through this or possible injury to someone. GM really should have some sensors built into the panel or where it mounts or the latches. Heck, the car warns you if the hatch is open and that doesn't even pose a real threat..

    I have a crazy experience to share with you guys. I bought my stingray in April and it is the fastest and most appealing car I’ve purchased in my life only being 25. Lol well funny thing is I enjoyed it so much this past summer that one day it was so hot and I had the panel off until I got home and put it on to get some water. I got back in my car couple hrs later to get dinner and while on the road I heard a little rattle but I assumed that was normal because I normally didn’t have the panel on because of a beautiful summer. I was on a red light and always loved the attention I got in it because of the bright blue. I accelerated quickly and felt like someone snatching the roof panel off my car. Look in the rear window and I see the panel falling to the ground. I stopped my car and hit the hazardous lights to go pick it back up before someone hits it. Luckily and thank god it hit no one. It was the most embarrassing moment of my life carrying my roof panel back to my car while being near a intersection. It did have major scratches on it but I learned my lesson and I’ve never taken the top off since.

      @jrock702  5 лет назад

      Same thing happened to me! That's why I made this video. I've taken my roof off hundreds of times over 7 years of having corvettes. One day after I put the panel back on and got a phone call before entering the car to latch it. I was talking on the phone for about 10min outside the car and got distracted. Got back in the car and drove away. 5min later at 80mph with the windows down. woosh!! Bye bye roof..... That sucks... Oh well, at least no one got hurt and we can laugh about it now....

Or can latches be closed, top's pins not locked in with everything looking normal, and top able to go frisbee? Good idea on the visors.

    I've owned 7 Corvettes. Currently I own a C7. After watching your video I expected to see something of importance. I was really surprised to see a video of latching the top. If you have to tell someone to put the sun visors down before installing the top and to remember to latch it then.....I think its time for those individuals to sell the Corvette and buy something less complicated to operate. If you want to get rid of the creaking noise from the top, remove the rubber grommets from the 2 locating pins on the front underside of the top, install 2 "O" rings on the pins then reinstall the grommets on the pins. This will put more pressure on the latch and the noise will be gone !

      @@jrock702 Damn seems to be pretty rare. I have no noise just a leak. Never even came close to forgetting to latch my top. Only seems to leak when it sits in the rain like at work. Start driving and it seems to go away. The last and only thing I haven't done yet is dress the seals. That's next. Any ideas please let me know. And no it does NOT in any way deter me from enjoying this awesome car.

      I kinda get your point... However it does happen to more people than you think. Probably more so to people who remove the panel very frequently. I'm just trying to raise awareness....

      Not sure why you are having this issue. With the latches in the open position put the top on and push it place so it is flush with the rest of the top of car. Then rotate the latches to the lock position. Maybe there is something wrong with your top. Take it to the dealer to have it looked at. Thanks for watching!

    Had my tires changed on my Stingray C7 at BUTLER TIRE 4430 Roswell Rd. Atlanta GA 30348. They took the top off to change tires ( I dunno) they forgot to latch ... flew off on Ga 400 at 62 mph. Went right back. They ordered another. Happened on July 3... still waiting. Morons. Overall, Atlanta has probably the worst customer service in tge car industry in America, hands down. Never service your cars in this town
