Makeila's Aqua Subscribed! Could you kindly tell me the tank size, the wattage of the light and plants you use. Are there any good bottom feeders for blackwater tanks?
This one is 3 gallons, the light is a Jansjo Ikea light so pretty low wattage, and the plants here are hygrophila siamensis 53B. Most regular bottom dwellers work well in blackwater since they come from environments like these :)
Hi I am looking to add fish into my nano 5 gallon tall tank and would love some chili Rasboras. I am curious what you suggest for feeding if you had to go away for a weekend or a full week since the food they eat are so small?
My aquarium has several Malaysian Driftwood pieces in it. After measuring the water parameters with an API freshwater kit, and my nitrites are high! Any idea on what would specifically be causing this?
If it's not naturally occurring in your tap water, it could be from overfeeding, too little water changes, lots of organic breakdown, heavy bioload, etc :)
I love the look of that tank, and I really want to make a Nano Blackwater tank with chili rasboras! How do you do maintenence on such a small Blackwater tank. I'd love to see a video of it.
Thanks for the suggestion! I have a tiny siphon I made using standard airline tubing and standard hard airline tubing. It's great at getting debris and tiny patches of algae/waste
Makeila's Aqua thanks for the tip. Maybe I'll try making one. I already have a 5 gallon I'm struggling to get detritus out of. Looking forward to see more updates on the tank :)
How do you deal with the tannins, decomposition and the white sand? I had a tank with a lot of tannins (not quite blackwater) and white sand and the sand looked awful after a couple of weeks. Changed it to a darker fine gravel now..
Questions and suggestions are always welcome! Let me know if you have a blackwater setup at home, I'd love to hear about it.

Wish you could do a bigger blank water tank. Your current one looks exquisite!
It's beautiful. I have 20 Chili Rasbora's in a 10g. Love them .
Thank you!
I'm doing a 5gal blackwater tank as of now and just saw you setting up this tank a year ago. It looks great. Liked and subbed.
I appreciate it! Blackwater is seriously one of my favorite styles

Thank you, I appreciate it!
Beautiful! Love this little tank.

As usual, your setup always looks very natural and pretty...
Thank you very much!
Very nice video Makeila. Thanks for sharing! 😀
Greetings from Poland :) Very nice aquarium, best regards :)
Whats the name of the plant? Thanks
love this! i'm setting up a 5 gallon blackwater in a few weeks.
How's the tank holding up? Has the Chili Rasbora spawned? Any small fries?
Oh so glad to see you back. You helped me with finding the music you play .I Love It So 💕 I will be trying your set up soon.
Glad to hear that!!
Which light u r using mam ??
Yay u finally uploaded again, I say 2 months after the video released
Haha! School has been super busy, but I'm planning some updates and a new scape.
how often you should change the water? bcs you know it will be so clear and not tanned or be a blackwater anymore.
Honestly not that often, anywhere between every 2 weeks to once a month. I drip the water in because the fish are a bit sensitive
Hi.. do u have to keep adding tanins every water chnge?

Glad you're back!
Thanks! Sadly I don't know exactly how - but perhaps there are some articles out there on it :>

That is one cool looking tank. Those are chili rasboras, right?
Thank you! Yes they are
Could you please tell me the name or brand of the tank? Thank you
It's a Tetra 3 gallon cube! Not a fan of it anymore since it scratches easily :P
@@MakeilasAqua Thank you for the quick response! I will take your advice on the plastic.
Why is it called blackwater?
It's because the botanicals and leaves tink the water a dark brown. In nature these habitats look like the water is actually black

I had a tank with a lot of tannins (not quite blackwater) and white sand and the sand looked awful after a couple of weeks. Changed it to a darker fine gravel now..
Sometimes I vacuum up the mulm on the sand and sprinkle new sand on top, but the decomposition is pretty normal and unavoidable
Wooooooooo
Made my first ever aquascaping video. Maybe you could check it out, you were an inspiration :)
Looks great, subbed to your channel
