I bought the cobalt blue 2L SE in 1998 loved the car. Ran it for 11 years 125K miles. Loved every minute driving it. Traded it in using the scrapage scheme and got 2 grand towards my next car. it was crumbling with rust in the chassy by this time but still looked great on the outside. Miss it to this day.
I wanted this car so bad when I was 18 or so. So glad I didn't. Would've spent way too much and hard to modify etc. it's Brand is not really about quality
I own a 99 SFX which is the Australian equivalent of the SE, the base models where plain in comparison. Mine has leather interior, sunroof, 17" after market rims and the original engine which is still going strong at 240k, Hyundai has really impressed me with this vehicle, comfortable, reliable and a classic.
What they didn't fail at was reliability, these things run forever.
