I love it when Markal gets caught by the Mage Army and makes this big speech about how he'll be back in a few centuries for his revenge, and all the while the Mage is just smoking his pipe and dozing off like he just doesn't care :D
I always find it funny that Markal is a distinctly secondary villain in 5. He's capable of coming up with dangerous schemes on his own but the plot is more interested in Kha-beleth/the Demon Sovereign trying to break out of Sheogh/hell: It occasionally feels his subplot was only made so the Necropolis faction has an excuse to be in the campaign. The reason I find it funny is that Markal is easily the cooler of the two characters.
I've always wondered what happened to Markal between Clash of Heroes and H5. He seemed like a decent guy in the former. I wonder if Fiona's death had some kind of effect on him that turned him all crazy and evil.
i like this interpretation the best, it makes so much more sense than just having him be the evil side villain with little to no background. also Fiona haunting the narrative after her final death is a nice use of the trope
It is hillarious how Clash of Heroes kind of irrevocably changed the implied dynamic between Fiona and Markal Instead of conniving necromancer somehow seducing the seemingly oblivious queen (like he did with Isabel) we have him actually previously helping Fiona to both get her living body back and thwarting schemes of demon worshippers in process. Asha uses all indeed. I mean, with their history back there it would be a surprise if they were NOT close. Maybe not at point of them having an affair but nevertheless - him being her magic advisor is completely earned. And Godric could only cope and seethe Also, makes one question how Markal simply did not raise her to undeath. She had experince at being an undead commander, if nothing else
Fiona and Markal have such an intriguing relationship. indeed, one might think he was some kind of a rasputinianesque figure to the queen yet coh gives a whole new different perspective to their relationship after they had such a nice bonding experience during Fiona's quest, practicing necromancy together and shit. i like to think they were super close, and Fiona's final death made Markal sort of lose it (to the point he bailed from the court with remains of a recently deceased queen) and become the person who he is in homm5. Fiona haunting the narrative (of a single side character) etc etc
You're welcome! Indeed, editing these is quite a job, and thats why I stopped after the original campaign, but I still havent forgotten about Hammers of Fate.
That path of magic and necromancy is beyond our comprehension. It us, the living who are fools and hot blooded that did not understand the great truths of the universe that he revealed to us.
@Dr. Red eye Agreed, but the thing is... Markal didn't actually die back then. Zehir knew the necromancer could be resurrected, so he tried to trick Markal and eliminate him completely but... was... tricked by Markal instead, lol. In time Zehir found out that piece of rotting villain was chilling in the Ring of the Unrepentant, waiting to be freed. By that time the young wizard was strong enough and his enemy was weakened enough, so...
Raelag never battled with Markal, he only met him when he and Isabel were on their way to Talonguard to resurrect Nicolai as a vampire. When the triumvirate met Raelag, Markal was already vanquished, and they were about to siege Talonguard and take Isabel to perform the rite on her..

Markal is definitely my favourite character in Heroes V. :D He's just the best. :D

that might be true, I think he loved Fiona.
According to heroes VI DLC about Sandro he is already a disciple of sandro between clash of heroes and H5.

Thanks for making these videos, it probably took a lot of time

I like how we all know necromancy well enough to predict this would happen and i love markal for his clever use of an opportunity.
I think this campaign or the Dungeon one was my favorite in Heroes of Might & Magic V.
In the russian version they called not Nicolai and Andrei, but Nicolas and Andrias.

Markal is the best!
NO SANDRO IS THE BEST
Eyyy...I found a mistake! 3:05
Markal said : ''Key lies in three artifacts'' but in subtitles it's written *''four''*
Too late haha
markal has a weird way of saying four

Markal is the real villain of HOMM5 lol

Sandro dead? NOOOOOOOO!!!!
Yea. Some doubt he is truly dead. He is a lich afterall but he did not return in the other games.
It is one of the reasons why I did not buy.
Since Heroes VI is a prequel of Heroes V, Sandro appears as a main hero and playable character in the Danse Macabre adventure pack.
OH MARKAL
