Remember a game that was loved by critics and you, but no one bought? What was it?

Darkspore (RIP). I'm not sure if it sold well or not but it has a 65 in metacritic. I thought it was a cool game, I'm not sure why it got so much shit.
Dead Island: Epidemic. When I heard about a f2p MOBA based on the DI universe I remember thinking "but why?" and I laughed at the idea... A few months later I tried it during beta and it was great, one of my favourite multiplayer experiences, it even had PvE. It shut down without even coming out of the beta... RIP

JudgeMathas Legend of Dragoon, no one ever talked about it everyone was so obsessed with FF7 that I don't think it got enough credit, loved the combat system.

JudgeMathas Nier, I loved that game. The world, the twists, turns, characters and omg the feels!! I enjoyed the many hours I put into it even doing the side missions and extra exploration and was severely disappointed at the amount of people that had never heard of it or played it, just one of those cheap 360 games in second hand shops that everyone thought was pretty crap but I disagree, I thought it was amazing and really makes you feel for all the characters in it.

JudgeMathas bladestorm, a koei tecmo game set in the 100 years war where you control units instead of a hero, cheesy voice acting bad textures but fun as hell and varied gameplay, plus the sequel added monsters and stuff, and a fairly original concept as far as video games.
if not then Jeanne d'arc for psp, kinda like a fire emblem/ final fantasy tactics game also set in the 100 years war with the expected quality of gameplay when compared to fire emblem.

Seek and Destroy (2002) Such a fun, wacky tank game that people slept on.Loved by some users, and a couple critics it was slept on probably because it was a Japanese import. It doesn't seem like the sales data is shown up,but I never knew anyone else who played it.

I also played this game recently for the first time and I really liked not having a huge open world to worry about, or ten thousand collectibles to collect. I just took my time enjoying the scenery, the story, the characters... 2-3 sessions and I was done (around 10h going slow).
I wish there was more short, linear experiences like this one without being walking simulators. Something like Call of Juarez: Gunslinger or Far Cry: Blood dragon come to mind.

Not having 10,000 collectibles to collect? Collecting the tech orbs was fucking horrible. And having tech orbs drop off enemies just made it more confusing. This was a terrible fucking game.

Fun game. Needed better enemy variety, felt there were like 3 enemy types in total.
"Remember Me" did most of the same things, but had better enemy variety. I always lump those 2 games together in my head, but that game tends to come out on top, despite combat being a bit simpler (no blocking option means it's all hit & dodge combos)

    Mathas, Da One Dolla Balla!
Man, I actually remember a little bit of this game! A long time ago I watched part of a Let's Play series on it. I never finished the series though as, while I thought the game was pretty cool, I wasn't a big fan of the guy playing. I couldn't find anyone else playing it, and I just couldn't *really* get into the series like I can with a YTer I really like, so I just...quit on it.
I never could remember what it was called...

I dunno if these are really well received but Folklore and Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom seem to fit the bill (For me at least).
Come to think of it, the two mentioned above are made by the same company, Game Republic.
So in a strange sense, I relate to how you see Ninja Theory just with a different dev company.

Just this year it's felt like Tales of Berseria has been ignored. It's really might be the best game I played this year even after playing Zelda and Persona 5. Berseria has some of the best characters with a heart wrenching story and one of the best flowing combat systems I've ever played. But it seems like it's getting ignored just because it's 'just another Tales game'.

It just takes place during that crazy part of people's lives where stuff like that is new and exciting for maturing young adults. The only thing that truly changes are the styles and the music. :)

Smooth Mathas, I have some of that moments too, More or less Cringey too. Im gonna tell it(if anyone is interested, READ)
    .
During highschool I had a crush on so many girls and most of my actions were stalkery UGHHH. One time I give out an Australian keychain to a girl I liked onto her bag without her knowing, the other time is placing chocolates onto another girl's bag with a small note saying thank you and of freaking course(anonymously), but one cringey time was me hiding onto the teacher's desk during lunch break and waiting for that girl to come in and surprise her everyday. Then one of the most disgusting cringey moments I did was: Making a personal video picture slideshow of ALL HER PICTURES in FACEBOOK with messages and copyright music when it was playing that's also more or less 15minutes of only her. CRINGEY
P.S. All of these are failed attempts to whoo a girl..... that's fine hehehehe so Good Luck people

I've definitely thought about it, but it would make getting untampered with footage nearly impossible. For these things I like to have footage that is clean, without my own commentary overlaying it, and as crisp as I can get it. I wouldn't be able to effectively stream and record the footage on a separate drive without a 2 PC setup.

Yeah... This is one of those games where I don't agree with the general consensus. I just found the gameplay flat, and I never really felt attached enough to either of the two characters to care that much about the plot. I never got too much of a sense of evolution from the characters, which made the moments when their characters were supposed to progress just feel sudden and awkward.
That's kind of been my reaction to all three of the PS3-era Ninja Theory games really. The stories don't deliver on their promises, and the gameplay shifts between simply being passable at best and aggravating at worst.

Mate, if you didn't get why people didn't like DmC, from purist to casual, google is right there. Analysis has not been lacking.
Assuming it's entirely down to Tameem Antonaides character design is lazy. Ninja Theory had a hideous understanding of the series's appeal. Google "brokeback dante ninja theory" for the time that they compared Classic Dante to a gay cowboy at multiple press conferences.
Oh yeah, these were fine stewards of a beloved franchise. People who proudly thought it was bad, and that they'd "fix" it.
Like if you let Stormfront run an emancipation museum.

Enslaved appealed to reviewers in 2010 because it's short. Paid reviewers prefer games that they can finish in an afternoon, review over-generously then get back to the busy business of running up bar tabs on publisher paid press events and getting sucked off.
Enslaved isn't a bad prospect for a gamer seeking a superficial experience now because it's usually $10 on steam any other day. Longevity is important to people who pay for their own stuff, especially when it's $60 also tax.

Anyone find it weird that Ninja theory games have this gameplay theory phenominom. Haven't played Heavenly sword. But usually, the worse the story, the better the gameplay
    Hellblade fantastic story: mostly walking
    Enslaved: okay gameplay, okay story
DmC Devil May Cry: Really fun gameplay, terrible story

Ninja theory games are strange. The worse the gameplay, the better the story, and vise versa. I've yet to play heavenly sword, but I've played half of their games and started this game.
DmC, gameplay is fantastic but kinda flawed. But the story was garbage.
Hellblade Senua's Sacrafice has an engaging story by exploring a mentally unstable character. But it's just a walking sim with great puzzles and so so combat
Kung fu chaos was a thing in both gameplay and story

  • @sages10

I don’t know why but I love all ninja theory games except this one. I found the art nice but the animations janky, and trip completely awful (how on earth am I going to like or even want to help someone who abandoned me to my death and then enslaved me. I don’t find them believable at all considering trip is made out to de a decent human being when everything she does is categorically awful and self centered.), and the combat to be boring and easy. I reaaaally wanted to like this but I find the characters and story to be simply bad, the gameplay meh compared to what I expect from ninja theory, and just disappointing as a whole. The beautiful world and the cool under used story that monkey is based on are wasted on this game in my opinion, I wouldn’t mind a sequel if they could iterate on and improve the combat and give me some likeable characters but I wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone even though I know a number of friends who liked it (I mean really characters and combat are what ninja theory do best usually, with some obvious and notable exceptions, and this has neither). But honestly even those who like this generally just like it, it’s not something people love. Pass this up and play Hellblade if you want a good story or DMC if you want good combat. Ninja theory is great but this game is meh at best and kind of shit at worst.

Yes, I agree with you, except for the last part, It was need a reboot for the developers point of view. The last DMC before the reboot was "you play half of the game as Nero then you play the other half on the same levels in reverse as Dante", so the developers had run out of ideas by that point, I think. But if that happen , I can't help but to think it would have been called a Devil May Cry rip off.
