I suspect that the lack of fish & turtles indicates a water quality problem. A good pond needs enough aquatic pond plants to keep the ammonia level down and the nutrients under control. Plus you should test the dissolved oxygen level after it is refilled. If it's too low you can add an aerator or 2. With enough of the proper plants & aeration you'll have less algae & pond scum and the fish will thrive better. If the water doesn't clear up quick enough you can add some flocculant & it will clear up fast.

I have seen ponds with literally 2 feet of water, about size of 2 kiddie pools with 8 inch fish in them. When the water is right, it is amazing how well the fish do.

One just never appreciates how a bucket experiences these jobs, until you put a camera just above it. The perspective was totally different and really emphasized the vertical distances involved. Thanks for the unique perspective. It looks like an interesting job, can't wait for the next video. Stay safe.

My grandpa owned 3 D8 Caterpillar bulldozers. One of them he used for digging and repairing ponds and other dirt work. Two of them were used for clearing land behind loggers for a local paper mill. My brother and I had big cutting blades on our dozers that we used too cut trees and stumps that were left behind. A raking and burning crew came in behind us. An older family member did all the dirt work. I always enjoyed operating a bulldozer.

Watching the 850j brought back a few memories. I was with the Royal Australian Engineers and was a Plant Operator within my Squadron. We had a TD15c with Roll Over Protection which was open to the elements. We had the TD15c in the process of being replaced with the 850j. When the 850j turned up at the unit I did a conversion course on it. It was luxury compared to the cab of the TD15 the only thing I had problems with for the first few times was the fact that there were no steering levers but got used to it after a time. Missed operating the TD15 though.

When I was kid, many decades ago, my dad decided to empty and dredge the pond on his farm. After building a dam and 3 days of pumping it was empty and the excavator came in. Then it poured rain for the next 3 days. Needless to say the dredging never got done.😢

The easiest way to tell if you got good water or not. Is if you have frogs. If you do not have frogs it's bad water. When I was a little boy we used to find the big bullfrogs along the river. And we would go gigging for them. Now here it is 60 years later and I cannot find a frog nowhere on the river , But the Creek going through my farm. Which is drainage from the hills on my property where the creek starts. It is highly abundant with frogs. And I also have two natural springs on my property. And where they dump into the river is some of the best fishing on the whole river.

having been an equipment operator for 20 plus years and having worked on a few pond and earthen dams I couldn't help but notice that as you were excavating the spill way you kept putting the dirt back behind you making it a farther push for the dozer, when it would have been more expedient and efficient to just drop the dirt off to your right side and infront now with that being said I really miss my excavation days and I enjoy watching you videos ( my fortey was finish dozer) and I miss the work !!! keep putting out the videos and I will keep watching them!!!

I agree, you can`t build on top soil. Even though the dam had 100+ years of rain on it to compact it hard as a rock, the fail point is the top soil. Same thing back in the day when people built cabins. They would scrape a trench for the footer and build on that. The cabin would then move up and down with the frost and thaw year after year. Then they would add on and call it a house, more problems. Or they would build on stilts, then watch those dance around over the years. Yowza! lol Take care
