20:00: and unfortunately money rules this world. Even when an African artist makes its way on top of the mainstream charts with Afrobeats, the western machine is pushing them to do even more collabs and references to western artists/music so that they can take it from us AGAIN. That's how we ended up with all those AfroBeats songs remixes with western mainstream stars (Rema feat Selena Gomez for example). Even watching an artist like Burna Boy who started with all those beautiful references to Fela Kuti in his music, just to end up applying the same formula on his songs (2000 american rnb sample on an "afrobeats production") in order for the americans to put in on the radio is kinda sad. But it's a great start tho that African music can have an identity globally. But I think I'll be better if they can be even more "African" when they got their mainstream success. Meaning collaborating with African artists that are doing a different kind of music than Afrobeats
Indeed. Hopefully, with fresh Afrobeat money incoming, we'll see the rise of African music labels with international reach promoting & distributing artists from the variety and wide extends of African Music. Throwing it in the Universe !!! 🙏🏽
