Just need to be smart about gaming on an ultrabook., and ofcourse you can game. 1) Monitor CPU and GPU temperatures and fan noise, undervolt or even underclock as required. (download MSI Afterburner/FRAPS/Throttlestop) 2) As a rule of thumb, you should be able to run most legacy games on higher settings, and use 720p with medium detail on modern games. 3) Enable V-sync or manually limit games to 60 FPS. Higher than that and those fans are going to be loud. Why put your expensive ultrabook's life on the line while gaming when you can do the same with less stress on the CPU and GPU ?
About Forza Horizon 3 FPS, seems like its locking the FPS to a fraction of your refresh rate i.e. 30FPS or 60FPS (StarCraft 2 has a similar mechanism for V-syncing). Disable V-Sync or Sync Every Frame option and use MSI Afterburner's RivaTunerStatisticsServer tool to manually limit FPS to 60. Now when FPS drops lower than 60, it will stick closer to the 60 FPS mark instead of hitting the next fraction (30)… if that makes sense :)
Those laptop are over $1,500. I was wondering if there's any cheaper like used or refurbished. Can this upgrade? I mostly want to edit for gaming montage like Sony Vegas Pro 13.
Yeah definitely, the reasons this is expensive are because it's thin and light as well as having a great screen. Something like a Dell Inspiron you can get with similar specs but obviously you will sacrifice a few things
Original Delta search up dell outlet on your browser. If u live in America than type dell outlet America and same for asia europe Australia Africa etc.
This is worst laptop ever for gaming. I played Starcraft 2 around a week (My laptop is a brand new). I had to replace a fan since it is broken. Worst design. Don't ever think to buy XPS series for gaming. They cannot control the heat well.
Not thermal throttling specifically but sometimes I notice issues where it shutsdown midway through a game but I'm not sure why, maybe I'm pushing it too hard.
Thank you so much for this video! I was looking for a great all around laptop and it looks like the XPS I the war to go
Nice, glad I could help. Are you going to get the XPS?

Riverside Tech Oh alright and do you have some links for better deal that ain't expensive or?
Well I think Dell have refurbished laptops but otherwise eBay could be useful.

would you consider an external monitor on a stand to fill that space?, it would look pretty cool
Yeah possibly or even mount an ultrawide to the wall and put an led strip behind it.
Its the CPU throttling and gpu
Yes, it throttles an insane amount. I eventually overheated mine to death but was in warranty luckily

Yes, after more use I got much worse problems and ended up building a PC instead which was 1/3 of the price and 3x better!
Is this the xps 15 9570?
The XPS 15 IS NOT AN ULTRABOOK!
I'd still class it as one
@@RiversideTech it's an ultra portable workstation. An ultrabook would have a ulv cpu
When you start a video saying you loved the product, its already unconsciously biased
Yeah, that's why it's a review. Would you rather I slap a spec sheet on, or voice my personal opinion and experience with the product?
No thermal throttling problems?

A repair guy came and fixed the laptop yesterday as the heatsink was faulty from the start - it shouldn't throttle much but issues like that can arise
what ssd is that and how much did it cost
It is the SanDisk Ultra 2 256gb and I think it cost around £40-£60
@@RiversideTech How do you plug it in?
You get the SSD connector to USB, simple
@@RiversideTech SATA to USB?
Yep
Strange editing
What about it is strange?
Riverside Tech you have a rolling LED and when you cut its on a different colour
Haha yeah, that's true. I should really change that. Thanks for pointing it out.
dont worry keep working
Yh will do, though I will sort that light.
