Hello Dan, thank you for replying to my comment yesterday - it prompted me to join one of your livestreams for the first time. I'm Swiss and work and live in Vienna, so I share Chris' timezone. I feel asleep around 2:38:20 and will now catch up with the rest : )
3:30:00 Dan, I don't know whether you refer to Obi-Wan's clasic quote from the original Star Wars or Qui-Gon Jinn's quote from The Clone Wars animated series, that goes as followed: "There is a cloud around me now, a clould around all of us. It's like a sickness, a fever in the blood. War, everywhere. Cruelty, killing - and some in my name. Blood like rain, I feel it all the time. The cries of the dying in the force, beating in me like a vein about to burst."
The archetype for rousing speeches is surely the St. Crispin's Day speech from Shakespeare's Henry V. This story shall the good man teach his son; And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by, From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remember’d; We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition: And gentlemen in England now a-bed Shall think themselves accursed they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day. Sometimes I think football coaches should try delivering this as a locker room speech at half-time.
This was really interesting and I stayed to the end. I felt the criticism was balanced and fun rather than total annihilation like some channels. You got yourself a new subscriber!
The conversation been between Galadriel and Isildur only makes it worse. Galadriel has been angry, arrogant, unlikable, the opposite of humble. Now she suddenly is schooling somebody else to be humble? At least be consistent! I get they will make Galadriel "grow up" eventually, but when does it happen?
I agree with angry (and brash and impulsive) but not with arrogant. She simply has an opposing view on some issues than most other characters, that is not arrogance to me. However, given her age, rank, and experience, it is not out of place for her to lecture a young hotspur who actually wants to learn something from her.
@@Crafty_Spirit You must haven't been paying attention. Not the exact words but it'd be painful for me to recheck what she said: "You[Númenóreans] got this land thanks to the Elves". (No, Míriel schooled her good). "Who do you think you are to talk to me as if you have any idea who I am". [to Elendil to whom she owes her life, imagine her brother Finrod talks to Barahir like that] "We [She and Míriel] are the only ones who see". Tell me this gal is angry but humble. She is also cold and cruel. Let's forget she threatened to shed blood at the court and that she threatened to gut Elendil. Even after Adar's words that should make anyone reconsider whether the orcs deserve to live. "Your kind was a mistake, I'll genocide you and make you watch". I'm already rooting for Adar. Yes, given her age and experience she should be able to school a twenty year old, but did she behave like one of such age and experience? She was schooled by Elendil in the show!!! Did you miss that scene? It's almost like different writers wrote these. One moment she says something quasi wise and fair, one moment (most of the time) she behaves just like an arrogant prick.
@@eugene8498 Sounds interesting, Eugene. Hopefully I'll get to rewatch the scene and answer you in detail by this week, I am bit too tired for that now. I am a psychologist, PhD candidate and I have PTSD - oddly enough, also because I lost my brother. The constant rage and one-sided worldview of Galadriel is something I am more than familiar with, even though my trauma has largely healed by now. It is fascinating for me to see something like this depicted on the big screen. But before continuing, I need to check that scene with Isildur again. Hope you have some patience.
@@Crafty_Spirit I'm sorry for your loss. I haven't lost a really close one so far in my life, my opinion might be baseless, but I don't think a humble soul would ever behave like that. At least the specific words she said were simply arrogant. When she said those words to I Isildur, I didn't believe her.
I enjoy your videos and did enjoy some of this but the criticism was relentless and extremely nitpicky which kind of wrecked it for me and I had to quit watching, sorry!!!!!
@@VoiceofGeekdom I'm sure the panel enjoyed themselves..... I just felt really depressed by it. It kind of took the joy away of watching the series for me, but I'll watch the next one. I've watched all of your post episode wrap ups so far. Just this one I just couldn't finish :)

Understandable... not everyone shares Chris's stamina 😂
New Jersey and My wedding ring is an official Jens Hansen movie replica One Ring, as we were talking about memorabilia
Thanks for having me, Dan ^^
Any time -- thanks for making it this week!

Yes, I love that speech! I think it sets a precedent for all others to aspire to.
Nice discussion of Adar - Galadriel “chat” thanks 🙏
Wonderful stream 🎉

Thank you Usha, that means a lot!

This episode was a blockbuster...not sure why the speakers were so non excited about it...
The show is a terrible attempt at Tolkien. That aside, it is still a bad show.

It was kind of a more critical panel this week. But overall I think most of the panel were mostly pleased with the episode.
