Lacey is very religious. She did an interview talking about when Ben asked her to do this with him. He said "you aren't going to preach to me are you?" She said "not unless you want me to" he replied "please do." He has come out saying he believes in a higher power and people like Lacey have helped him slowly become more religious and you can see it in some of his later songs. Ashes of Eden is basically him asking God if it's too late and wondering if God would even want him.
@@toyotaecw I am not religious either, however her story of being stopped in a church on her way to commit suicide, I cannot explain how the people she met knew, but some things are not to be explained. The story is beautiful and I am here for it.

I divorced an addict that never got better. My mom was an alcoholic and she tapered off drinking a bit very late in life but could not undo all the damage she had done, particularly to me, over the years. They both lost battles with cancer in the last couple of years, my mother most recently in late 2020. It's terrible the damage addiction does to everyone in the addict's orbit. But there is healing after ♥ Breaking Benjamin has always been my favorite band, I always feel like they pulled their lyrics straight out of my brain. Have an amazing week!
They do sad songs very, very well. It may not be the most obviously emotional, but "Forget It" has always resonated with me on a really depressing level too.
I've been addicted to drugs since I was 16. I'm 40 now. I've FINALLY reached 17 months SOBER! Longest I've ever been sober. How I came across this song is a story that absolutely no one would ever believe, but it saved my sobriety and life that day. I almost left behind a SOLID 21 year marriage and three children that day. I owe these two MY LIFE!
It’s been a long time but hope you’re still doing strong and have become happier and healthier both for yourself and the family around you. Sending love
It’s one of the best collaborations I have ever heard. The song was powerful enough, then add Lacey’s voice, and a more acoustic based background, and it’s brand freaking new again. Really enjoyed it. Alex’s review was great as well.
With the acoustic guitar and Lacey's vocals, this one feels hopeful to me. It makes me feel like instead of being stuck, it's from the perspective of someone who's coming out of their depression and agony, and looking back as a sort of farewell. I hear the chorus and imagine someone trying their best to gently pull away from a toxic influence, asking them why they're still so miserable, and "is this the way it's got to be?". In general it just feels like it's coming from a person that's grown, found their purpose, and is ready to move on so now they're breaking ties with whatever held them back, but they're doing it as gently as they can, as though they can't bring themselves to be as negative and hurtful as whatever they're letting go of. The last verse, and especially the last line, doesn't feel like it's someone committing suicide; it feels like as far as the toxicity, the agony they've dealt with for so long "I feel nothing anymore", like they've finally broken free.
I love Lacey and Ben’s voices truly were meant to come together!!! With that said you so have to react to Breaking Benjamin with Scooter Ward “Far Away”. Their voices together are even more awe inspiring!!
That line when Lacey says “I feel nothing anymore” fucking kills me. I listened to these songs when I was younger and it’s crazy how powerful they become after you experience life a little more.

Now I use that same album to remind me of the struggle and keep moving forward. There is not one song on Dear Agony that doesn't hit home personally. Benjamin is a great artist waiting for more music.
I've been listening to Breaking Benjamin for 10+ years and this song in particular with Lacery Sturm just hit different. Their voices compliment each other so well. It's also one of my favorite songs by them. I struggled with alcohol addiction and this song always brings me to tears.
Alex, BB helped me through my depression, saved my life you could say. Their songs are so much farther beyond other music, they have such a beautiful gift.
This song hits home for because because of the mental health issues I've experienced, both myself and witnessed growing up; my mother has both physical and mental issues (which both feed each other), and those issues caused me to develop my own that I'm still dealing with. The whole Dear Agony album, and this song in particular, has a special place in my life
I saw breaking benjamin live in December and Lacey came out for a surprise song and they played dear agony and it was so powerful live. I love this song

Ben is one of the best dudes in music. I saw them a few years back at Northern Invasion festival and he brought a group of kids onto the stage to watch. It was so cool!
Thanks for what you shared in this video. For years, I struggled with depression and anxiety. I’ve done things to myself that I wasn’t very proud of and There were many moments when I wanted to end my life because I wasn’t feeling the love and happiness that I was longing to feel. I’ve conquered those demons and became recently engaged to a wonderful woman.
Lacey Sturm is one of my favorite voices she has a songs with skillet, apocalyptica, we as human. She is famous for flyleaf. Her new stuff is good too.
So agonizing but yet so so beautiful. I know the feelings of child abuse and childhood pts, suicidal thoughts and I tempted fate. I got addicted but i was one of the few lucky enough to make it to a good rehab. The thing they taught us was to love one another. I came away from there with an immense love for people especially those who suffer from mental illness and addiction. It makes me teary eyed just writing this. Sending good loving energy to everyone here and all those suffering.
This song reminds me of my past constantly. I was diagnosed at a young age bipolar disorder and also in my early 20s schizophrenia. Those are my agony’s in my life to this day. I struggle with depression a lot and music always helped during it. Dear agony reminded me of my struggles with that. Honestly this is my favorite version because of Lacey being in it. She is so talented and Benjamin is an amazing singer. They fit well together! Honestly glad I heard this song years ago. I have been a fan of Breaking Benjamin for years. One of my favorite songs is Diary of Jane and So Cold. Those are really good! Dear agony is also one of my favorites but it also has a message for me that I relate to. Amazing song!
so sorry to hear about your troubles in life I can relate to a very stressful life dealing with a loved one that's difficult to watch them hurt themself or others but I have faith all will be well in the end! I'll be praying for your families well being
One of my favorites, Breaking Benjamin is incredible and this version is powerful. Check out the other songs off this album! They can't make a bad song!
I connected with this personally also. The vocals and lyrics stirred up memories and, for a moment, took me to dark places that seemed like a dream, but we're in fact, reality. Life can be so bittersweet. Loved your beautifully sincere and heartfelt reaction.
This song got me thru alot of rough times in recent years and i feel with this song because i was addicted to opioids for over a decade, because of injuries and trauma i suffered. The birth of my lil girls forced me to kick the habit, only for me to relapse from 2016-2019 after my exwife left me (thank god). Iv been clean and sober since may of 2019. I tear up everytime i hear this song.
Alcohol addiction destroyed my family when I was a child. This song hits home.. much love to those that have also had to go through similar or worse issues with addiction. Stay strong.
Even after listening to this song at least 500 times i still get the same goosebumps. Both their voices gel so well together and the emotion is all there!
I never knew that I needed another version of this song until I heard that Lacey was on the track. Now I can't go back to listening to the original as this is the only one that lives in my head now.

Am glad you went and listened to this version, I actually like this one more then the original. Also, I ask every now and then but please check out the lovely lady's from Lovebites, should do either Raise some hell or Holy War. You won't be disappointed.
That song had so much potential but I find it very disappointing. The volume of Ben's voice is way too low, with the exception of when he sings "ya you breathe just to know you're alive". Also, Diamante doesn't really have a good voice.
I'll be honest I cried the first two times I heard this song. Cried listening to Failure with Michael Barns as well. Growing up with Lacey being my favorite singer and Red being my favorite band, BB gave me something I never knew I needed.
This hit so hard...I’ve been going through addictions to alcohol, painkillers and gambling at the same time. Which lead to my suicide attempt. I survived all that and I will keep living my life the best way I can. Every day. All the strength to all of you out there, whatever you are going through.❤️
i know this song is about overcoming addiction...which i respect fully...but it was also the last song my fiance listened to before open heart surgery. she didnt wake up. so it holds a special place in my heart. its a strong song, no matter how sofly it is sang. aaaaathey put their hearts into their music...lets love that
My dad dealt with alcoholism and some severe mental health issues. When he hit his rock bottom he never let me and my brothers see him drunk. Despite how angry he was when drunk he never raised his voice at us, never put a hand on us. He and my mom split and he said good bye. He still visited and kept in contact. Her pick my brothers and I up every weekend to stay at his cabin. He joined a rehab program that gave him a little paw shaped tag every month he was sober. I watched him build a rainbow that would hang from his review mirror. I remember how happy I was each and every week to see those tags. Breaking Benjamin was always mine and my dad's band. I never knew why I loved the songs... I just felt comforted when my dad would sing them in the dead of night, me secretly listening despite it being way past my bed time. I've dealt with my own addictions and mental health crisis. But I pulled through. So, this song hits so close to home. Considering the story behind it and my background with the band. My dad is so much better now. But he lives thousands of miles away. So when I miss him I listen to Breaking Benjamin. One day I hope to meet Ben and just thank him for putting pain I could never describe into such a beautiful song.
Lacey was incredible in this. I got the chance to see BB perform Dear Agony with Lacey Sturm at the Sonic Temple fest, and it was an incredible performance! I don’t know if I’ll get that chance again lol
Been battling an alcohol addiction myself for a while now. Didn't realize it was a problem and the hold it had on me until it already had its hooks in me. It was my coping mechanism to deal with stress of life, a tormenting marriage which led to divorce and multiple combat tours in the US Army. I listened to both Breaking Benjamin and Flyleaf while deployed and it really spoke to my soul. The only reason why I decided to comment is because tomorrow I start my battle at being sober for the entire month of July and it will be a feat that I have not beaten since I was deployed in 2013. I turn 39 next month and I plan to be sober to celebrate it. I don't demonize alcohol, I understand without it I may have ended my life much earlier. But it's time to say goodbye to its usefulness and prove to my family and myself that we all can be strong enough to conquer our addictions. God bless anyone out there struggling, never give up. One day you and I will win.
There are some that don't like this version - but to me, this is just incredible. And Alex you nailed it - their voices together work SO well on this: you can feel the emotion they both brought to this, matching each other, finding great spots to highlight - and the playing of the band just tops it. An unbelievable version of an awesome, awesome song. Alex - so glad you did this one - thank you (as always)!!!
Seriously, there is a old acoustic version floating around of Ben by himself playing this and you need to watch it. For anyone who's ever been down and out, been to the darkest of places in your mind, we feel it so deeply.

I've probably watched this video 50 times. Goose bumps EVERY time!
@Alex Hefner your positivity gives me strength.
Fit For a King - When Everything Means Nothing
You are such a beautiful man in so many ways! Loved this reaction.
Lacey and Benjamin two of my favorites!
This song is beautiful
Ben has got to have one of the best voices in the world right now he’s so good and sounds just as good live!!
