- Why I Didn't Get My IB Diploma
Hey guys! In this video, I want to talk to you guys about my experiences in high school and IB. I want to share what I learned along the way and how my experience in the IB program helped make me the person I am today. I hope that my video can help anyone going through the IB program or anyone that is going through school in general. In life, we are going to face adversity and things are going to happen to us unecpectedly. But it is not about what happens to you, it is about how you respond to it!

Thank you for your hard work and sacrifice in lowering the grade boundaries
Thats a crazy comment bruh
I hate you
Don't dwell on your mistakes! Everyone goes through times of struggle and confusion, even me at times. But don't believe that an Ib diploma, a piece of paper with a two-digit number, will ultimately determine your success. I understand that having a diploma is better than not having one, but the main importance of going through IB is to adapt and mature your mindset in a way where you become wiser as a person in all aspects. Despite the fact that you didn't get your diploma, I feel as if you have already attained these attributes that the IB wants you to attain, and the fact that you are brave enough to come out and talk about this on youtube exemplifies that you are on a whole other level of maturity which I praise you for. I still see a bright path ahead of you and now that you understand your mistakes, I believe that you are just bound for success in the future. Best of luck!
Thank you so much, Mark! I appreciate it! It's important that we not only go through life, we grow through life as well 😊.
I am just learning I am failing my IB, and I feel like that he taken over my life. I am now a senior and graduating soon. I have applied to many unis and no one is taking me so this is actually really helpful thank u.
No problem! We all come up short sometimes, but the important thing is not what took you down, it's about the lessons you learned on the way up! Keep working and things will work out
Thank you for this video. I feel like these types of things are not talked about enough and should be addressed more. As you mentioned, mental health and loosing motivation is something that so many IB students struggle with. Especially given the current pandemic, it's harder than ever to be able to balance all aspects of school life. I saw in the comments that some are also struggling w/ or did not pass the IB and I'm here to say that its okay! An IB diploma will not 100% guarantee a better future. Everyone has ups and downs, and you have to move forward in life. I started IB last year during August, and ended up dropping it for my regular school diploma. Although, I felt guilty and embarrassed (at the time) as the majority of the students in my school is doing the IB, I'm so much happier and mentally in a better place. Please be kind to yourselves everyone:) You are not alone. Thanks again Ekene for sharing your experiences!
No problem Mila, I'm glad you enjoyed my video! And there is no shame in dropping IB. The key is to know that regardless of whether you get an IB diploma or not, you can still achieve success regardless of what that looks like for you. Even though it took me longer than some of my peers, I still made it to dental school and that's why the key is to keep moving forward and improving! 🙏🏾
i just found out that i didn’t get the diploma, literally so heart broken…really trying to pull through with positive thoughts. it just sucks ya know?
I got a 26 today but I still didn’t get the diploma bc I got 11 points in HL and u have to get a 12 in HL
@@zoriedworzanowski4983 I'm so sorry, the scores don't define you, I'm proud of you
Keep your heads up @zoe and @Zorie! The key is to look at where you may have made a mistake and trying your best to correct them! Because at the end of the day, you have the opportunity to become an even better person/student because of this. It's not about what happens to you, it's about what you do about it 🙏🏾
@@zoe-dq8yy Maybe you can study IB by buying study guides and you can do the exams in next May again
Just curious, how is everyone in this thread doing? Life is long and I hope you all have had the opportunities to prove yourself. I quit IB after one year as I really struggled with it, and moved to A Levels. I’m heading to the LSE in September, essentially having completely turned my life around. I hope you guys have done well for yourselves too, but if not, keep persevering and finding fulfilment in your own way.
I can totally relate on the getting burnt out part! I only graduated the IB program in 2022 but OMG I thought it was literal hell. I did make it soooo much harder on myself by also working 12 hour shifts at the hospital on the weekends. The part about the short term happiness is so true. The number of times I procrastinated was crazy I literally ended writing my EE the day before lol. Our school had a small IB program so we only had 9 IB classes we could choose from, and me being the dummy I am took 3 HL and 4 SL. Apparently the extra SL doesn't even count towards the diploma. Idk how I did it but I did get the diploma with a 27. I see all these people get 40+ or complain about how scores lower than 28 is just trash and it sometimes kinda hurts but then I remember that half my diploma was online and our teachers had no communication or resources, so that makes me feel a little better ig.
Congrats on getting into dental school (although this comment is 2y years late lol) hope everything is going well for you now!
Thank you for this info and sharing all of this! I'm interested in doing IB diploma so it's nice to see students perspectives of it which are a lot more honest and real than teachers.
Anytime, I'm glad you found it helpful!
I'm choosing IB certificated ( basically fail IB Diploma ) i've been through really tough time of being a IB certificated but this video really help me out. Thank you, keep doing video
Cheers
Don't be too hard on yourself, it happens! The key is to keep moving forward and keep getting better. I posted the video about getting into dental school to show that even if it takes you a little longer to achieve your goals, you can still achieve them if you never give up! 🙏🏾
I did the full IB Diploma program way back a long time ago. Should've done certificate instead. I probably would've gotten more college credits if I focused more on those courses instead of taking way more than I could handle and sucking at everything.
Is IB certificate a good chose or change IB to another curriculum/school. My daughter also has been through the same case. The she fail the mock exam now in grade 11 and school are pushing her to drop to courses
Thank you so much! This really helped me a lot as I went through the same thing last year in year 10. If you wanted to take ib, you needed to do specialist subjects and I had all of my specialist subjects in the same semester so I was so burnt out and demotivated looking at my grades which went from As to B- and Cs. I did not try for the practice exams and could not get myself to work. I was so skeptical of doing ib but I gave it a go and I think some of my ideas from last year are still haunting me as Ive lost the motivation or the will to do well at all.
Anytime! Yeah IB was really tough. But you've already made it this far, so you should be proud of yourself for that! It can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but just know it's there, and with each day that passes, you're getting closer and closer to graduating! I also think it's important to make time to do something for yourself at least once/week to help keep you from feeling burnt out and to give you something to look forward to
I really respect your honesty, thanks for sharing.
My pleasure!
Don't worry bro. Live your life
IB sucks
Makes you a disbeliever
Gives you stress
Fuck it
Thank you! IB was rough, but I the good thing is it teaches you how to be stronger mentally! Even though it sucks when you're going through it 😅
Man I can't stand IB. The only organisation that has extra work like IAs and EE with exams as well. I got caught in plagiarising one of my IAs and now after 2 years of stress I won't be getting my diploma. I wanna cry man, this shit is soo pain
@@mustafanoureldin5719 you literally plagiarized your IA though
You tried your hardest. Remember it doesn’t define you! (also my sisters name is ekene lol)
Thank you! And lol that's awesome, this guy my brother went to high school with is named Kelechi too 🙌🏾
@@ekene6841You guys have the real Igbo Nigerian names.
thank you so much for sharing this! i relate 100% and now don't feel so alone
Thank you for this. Do make a video about how you moved forward.
No problem! I have touched on this in some of my other videos, but I will make a separate video addressing that! 😊
Thank you for making this. I'm inspired.
im sorry Dude, God bless✝️✨
It's all good, it ended up working out! I'm in dental school now 😊. God bless you too 🙏🏾
@@ekene6841 Good for you man :)
@@riversara thank you! 🙏🏾
So you didn't get enough points? Ever since I entered IB, I knew I wasn't happy with my grades even though I know im smart. I stopped reaching for top, now i'm just scraping by and decided to focus on myself.
Yeah I came up short! You're definitely smart! Sometimes it just comes down to how you're studying and managing your time. It's important to focus on yourself but at the same time, understand that you can do anything you put your mind to! With the right adjustments, you'll be fine!
I just got accepted to Harvard because of you.. Many thanks bro!
That's amazing, congrats!! Keep up the great work, you got this 🙏🏾
My daughter is in IB school, she finished the MYP successfully last year but this is the junior/grade 11 was so hard she was trying but the mock exam results was very disappointed, now the school advised us either to leave school to another one, another curriculum or drop IB diploma to IB certificate course. We don’t know how it will affect her university application especially she is going for medical college. I don’t trust the school, they didn’t support her during the whole year, teachers are not good as well….please let me know how to solve this issue. Change school or drop to IB courses. We are living in uae
If the school offers AP, I would take some AP classes! And if the school doesn't offer AP classes, I would consider taking some honors classes. Being in UAE, I'm not sure how things work there in terms of medical school, but for medical school I would recommend that she tries to form good study habits that will translate to university so that way she can do well in her classes. I would say that your daughter's performance in college is going to be a lot more important than her performance in high school if she is trying to go to med school! Also, if the school you are considering transferring her to has a good reputation in terms of the teachers overall environment, it couldn't hurt to consider transferring her to that school
@@ekene6841 thank you for your prompt reply, we checked today with the other school and they advised that it will not be a good option to transfer since the IB is two years and the ministry of edition will not grant it. This is the system here in the UAE. So we decided to keep her with the IB certificate. I talked to her and made the plan to study well even now during summer holiday to improve her grades. And see how will end. What do you mean with honor classes, please? Thank you again.
@@Home-for Oh that makes sense! In the US, we have classes called Honors classes or AP classes which are a little more difficult than normal classes. The good thing with these classes is you can choose which classes to take AP classes in and it's not a program like IB where all of your classes are harder than normal classes and you have extra assignments to complete. It's great that she has a study plan now! Getting in the habit of not procrastinating will not only make things more manageable, it will also help her when she goes to university and it will make things a lot less stressful for her!
Hello sir, how's your daughter right now? Was it still ok with the ib certificate? I'm also considering ib certificate course but I'm not sure if this is a right choice...
I need some advice😢
I’m grade 11 student who is studying in international school in Singapore. I graduated EAL(English as Additional Language) course last year and currently doing dp course.
Since I’m not stem person, I chose 2 group 3 subjects in HL course and biology SL. What I want to say is… regardless of subject, I’m finding hard to write the answer clearly. IB requires me a lot of writing and I didn’t realize it would be this hard. I moved school this year and I’m regretting not to think deeply about the curriculum. My grades are falling(I’m keep getting 3s and 4s.) and my mental health is going crazy together. Sometimes I feel depressed and sometimes I feel happy with no reason, start to binge on foods and got enteritis, and whenever I listen to my family’s voice, I’m about to cry. IB + bad mental health is the worst combination ever.
So… I’m considering to change to ib certificate and thinking of self study ap course and take the exam externally. Will it be ok?
Hi! I'm sorry for the late response! Yes, there is nothing wrong with changing to the AP course! It's important to keep your head up and know that your grades don't define you. An exam score doesn't determine whether you are smart or not. I would also look into the reason that you were getting those 3s and 4s to see if there might be something that you can fix in terms of your approach to studying. I hope that helps!
I’m in the same boat, currently we’re halfway throughout the 1st year and I don’t think I’ve put in more than 5 hours of studying time. Everyone around me is insanely smart and they all get 7s consistently and I’m over here chillin with 2s and 5s. I’m j not motivated and now I’m stressing because my predicted grades are garbage and I want to go for dentistry in uni. It’s sad because my mom told me the other to get my grades up and had a fight over it and everything. I’m lost
And I hate the whole grades don’t matter narrative because they really do. I just I don’t know
I understand that! Sometimes, it can get easy to get caught up in the short term, but
you should use the fact that you want to get into dentistry as motivation!
You can go to Romania to study dentistry in English, unis are not selective at all
Where there is a will there is a way and we will find a way
I want to do dentistry too and I know how you feel. I know this may not be as helpful at first but you are more than your grades. You will do what you want to do in life and you'll make it. Keep your head up❤️
@@Nat-qu8vg thank you and good news, I got my shit together and worked my ass off for months now here I am with acceptances and scholarships to all my universities. It did get better but with that came very long hours of hard work and it was the only way I could make it and I did. Wish you the best
Useful video! I’m just curious; did you retake the IB exams again the following November session?
Thank you! And no, I didn't since I had already gotten into college, I didn't see a point in studying again for those exams!
I been caught plagiarising. This is soo frustrating and I can't get my diploma anymore
I'm sorry that happened to you. The key is to learn from it so that you can make sure you don't make that mistake again! One mistake doesn't define you and as long as you decide you can still accomplish whatever you want, that's all that matters 🙏🏾
I feel like I am dying and getting a heart attack at the same time and I don’t know what to do . I am an international student and I have no other options I am hoping and praying that the uni does not rescind my offer in the US .Any advice on what to do ?
Sorry for the late response! The only thing you can do is focus on what you can control. If that means you study as hard as you can to earn the best grades you can, that's what I would do! I hope this helps and I hope things ended up working out with the uni in the US!
Thank you for sharing your story. I am taking the finals now and I am so scared cause I think I failed physics and english (my HLs). I got accepted to college to study physics with 4s and I am worried they will rescind me now cause I am an international student. Do colleges care about getting the diploma for international kids?
do you know if colleges are likeley to rescind us students who do not get their diplomas? i am a little bit paranoid about my testing haha
I'm sorry for the late response! I have not heard of colleges rejecting anyone for failing a specific exam, but please update me and let me know what ended up happening!
I got a 42 but there is a bigger jump at a top university
Wow your experience has been so different yet similar to mine.. i have 'senioritis' right now and this video has given me a bit of that push to finish my final 3 months (ib N20 gang) :( I'm sorry that you didn't get your diploma!! What the heck? Was it a close call? Idk hope you're doing well 4 months on, this just popped up in my recommendations
Edit: checked out your channel! Happy u got into college :)
Hey! And thanks for the support! At least now you only have 1 month to go! And yeah it was pretty close, I just didn't put the effort into studying that I should have. I also hope your senior year is going well! Senioritis can be too real sometimes but do your best to push through it knowing you're gonna be done soon!
How did you get into college without a diploma though? And what were the other paths that you saw when you found out it wasn't going to be good in terms of passing, because honestly dude....I chose to do the ib because I had no choice and I didn't know what I wanted to do, but now I do. I'm almost done with my final exams...last one in a day.....I just wanna know what to do if My results turn out to be ugly. It'll be of great help if you could guide me and show me a ray of hope. I genuinely went through the same exact experience as you did, like point to point from being enthusiastic and getting 6's and 7's to absolutely loosing all the will to go any further. I'd like for you to help me out here please I'm lost
I still got my high school diploma so getting into college wasn't much of a problem! The only difference is you won't get the college credit for the IB exams that you don't pass. The key is to learn from the mistakes you made in high school and apply those lessons when you start college. In college, time management is super important and if there's one tip I could give you, it would be to figure out a good system that allows you to manage your time better so you're not always having to cram for exams!
@@ekene6841 thanks for your advice man, 🙏 it means alot I will definitely manage my time better
@@shamsaravai2315 Anytime! You got this 🙏🏾💯
It’s never too late to go back to school. Get a tutor this time
I'm actually getting ready to graduate dental school! Perseverance is key 🙏🏾
I'm an IB teacher and I find it overrated
Did you still go to university
I'm actually in dental school now!
i dont think i will get good grades for my IB finals which i am giving now, i am contemplating on what to do after finals.I am also in dilemma for my further studies i took the 3 sciences for hl and maths ai ,eng and french for sl , Have any suggestions??
Yeah I would recommend looking at where you can improve for the future! If you're interested in going to college after high school, I would recommend at least having an idea of a field that interests you, like business, engineering etc and that will help you decide what kinds of classes you need to take. One of the most important things for life not just school, is figuring out time management! It's something I'm still working on, but having good time management can help you strike a good balance between working or studying and having fun
I failed cause of my hl criteria I cba with this I might give nov or some shit now
Please help me.... Even i didn't get the diploma 😭..... Will I get through any University ?
Keep your head up! It's ok to feel disappointed but use this as a learning experience! Be honest with yourself, ask think about what you did wrong that you need to improve on. But also be proud of yourself for doing IB in the first place! You will definitely get through University! One of the most important tips I can give you is to not use grades for validation. Always do your best and don't take bad grades as a sign that you're unintelligent. Use them to make adjustments so you can do better next time! If you have the optimistic attitude towards your academics, you'll be fine! Time management is also super important so that you're not cramming all the time 😊. Hope that helps!
I got 43 ib points it wasn’t really hard but yeah
Oh that's awesome, good work! 🙏🏾
so toxic 🤣🤣💏
Wtf 💀 no one asked
