    please make a vid on economics paper 1 (the approach & how to incorporate real world examples). thank you sooo much i’m trying to get a level 7 for my final exams in a little over a month!

    • @JamieHilliam24
      @JamieHilliam24  9 месяцев назад +4

      Hey Audrey. I have a couple of new videos coming out in the near future but I might not have time to make a IB Economics paper one 1 video before your final exams so here are a couple of tips. (These tips are mainly towards Paper 1 part b. Paper 1 part a. is significantly easier and you just need to know your theory well and explain it well.)
      1. Specialise and be strategic in your preparation. The IB Economics syllabus has lots of content so I would suggest only focusing on 2/3 of the areas of content e.g. Microeconomics and International Trade/Development. By doing this, you can cover each area in depth prior to the exams. Before even attempting to do paper 1s, you should have a great grasp of the Economic theory behind the questions.
      2. Prepare out key perspectives. It's quite hard to come up with economic perspectives on the spot, but you should try to form justified opinions about economic concepts prior to your exams e.g. Monopolies are generally bad since they are inefficient, harm consumers with overpriced goods, and often don't innovate despite making large profits. Another example of this could be with international trade e.g. The removal of tariffs is generally advantageous since the markets operate more efficiently, and consumers get lower-priced goods. However, the extent that this policy is beneficial depends on how much the government supports firms during their transition to areas of comparative advantage.
      3. Plan out your essays. Before writing your essays, identify each side of the argument so that you can have a balanced essay. Moreover, you should also plan out your evaluation to have a more cohesive and well-thought out essay.
      4. Make structured essays. The structure that I normally have is to do definitions and diagrams in the first section of the essay. Then, I would have the rest of the essay consist of a series of point, counterpoints and evaluation. Through this, I present balanced and well-synthesised arguments. Another structure which I use is to describe and evaluate a couple of policies for a particular economic issue e.g. externalities or asymmetric information for questions such as: evaluate the view that taxes are the best way to reduce the consumption of goods with negative consumption externalities.
      5. Incorporate RWEs effectively. Real world examples shouldn't just be thrown into your essay randomly to tick off that criteria. Instead, RWEs should be used to build your argument and illustrate points. For example, rather than just throwing in the example of Microsoft being a monopoly in the software market in an essay about whether monopolies are a good market structure, you should try to have it build your argument. e.g. "However, monopolies may not be as harmful as previously conceived. For instance, Microsoft had a monopoly over the computer operating system market in the 1990s. However, its large supernormal profits were utilised to invest into developing improved applications and new products, such as the Xbox. In this way, consumers can actually benefit from the r&d that monopolies do."
      5. Do lots of practice essays and plans. I did at least a dozen practice essays prior to my actual exams.
      6. Memorise RWEs. I employed flashcards to memorise my RWEs prior to my exams.
      Here are all of my RWEs and evaluation notes that I prepared prior to my exams. Hopefully you will find these helpful. I really recommend going through these. Good luck for your exams :)

    Hey there, do you have any tips for physics?

    • @JamieHilliam24
      @JamieHilliam24  5 месяцев назад

      Hey. I would recommend two things to do well in IB Physics.
      1. Understand the content. The content of IB physics can often be hard to understand. I would suggest that whenever you don't understand something, watch videos online until you understand it. I would recommend watching videos from the OSC channel in particular.
      2. Do lots of Physics practice problems. I would recommend going through the question bank of past paper questions for a particular topic and attempting them and then learning from your mistakes. By doing this, you get to apply your knowledge.

    I am starting IB soon for my freshman year of highschool. How stressful is it. I want to become a bro footballer(soccer player) and need education as a back up. I considet myself smart scoribg a 98 for math in grade 8 and getting 90+ on most subjects. I just want to know if its possible to manage.

    • @JamieHilliam24
      @JamieHilliam24  3 месяца назад +1

      Hey. I think that IB is generally decently stressful for lots of students because of its heavy workload with lots of assessments and assignments. Especially during the first part of the second year, many of my friends and I were quite stressed out since we would have an assignment due every week on top of our content. Personally, I found IB to be manageable since I didn't procrastinate and I managed my time well. In my opinion, I think that you should be fine and not experience too much stress if you work diligently and don't procrastinate. Good luck with your studies and your football :)

    Jamie I also have terrible handwriting did you think it affected your score a lot? Or I shouldnt worry

    • @JamieHilliam24
      @JamieHilliam24  7 месяцев назад +1

      I think my bad handwriting negatively impacted my marks for my essay based subjects (English and Economics) to a decent degree. Especially for English, I feel like I could have gotten a 6 if I had neater handwriting. My advice is to try to write as legibly as possible for your exams so that you get the marks that you deserve.

      You should be fine and get at least a C. It's pretty uncommon to get a D or E in the EE. You should be optimistic about your marks. I thought I was going to get a 35 in IB but I ended up getting a 41.
