13:54 George Szell was quite always in love with the score he was conducting. He tried to touch it in caressing or dramatic assaults. His tentatives gave great music.
I haven't heard his mid-60's recording in some years now, but how could it be superior to this? Clarity, grace, and often a sheer Giulini-like beauty. Thanks very much for bringing this gem back and giving it to the world. Was this Op. 56a Szell's first stereo recording with the Cleveland?
Versión histórica. Intensa y elegante.
A RUclips treat. What an orchestra and what a conductor.
Beautiful version, Szell is a genius
I used to listen to this piece when I was in high school. 💓Thanks for sharing !
Fantastic .. Brahms genius .. and Szell super conductor ...

I like this even better than the 1965 version.
This was recorded for Book of the Month Club Records, along with the Bach Suite #3, The Firebird Suite, and other pieces.
Lifschey + Gatwood
Marc Lifschey on oboe..... The best ever to play the instrument..... Along with Robert Marcellus, maybe the greatest wind section ever assembled.

Yes, the first-ever stereo recording of Szell/Cleveland. The recording was issued privately.

Zoja Petkova Markovic , Thanks a lot. Have a nice day.
Was this not the 1965 stero version?
No, it was recorded in 1955, and is the first stereo recording of Szell and the Cleveland.
Marc Lifschey, oboe!
Best there was, but I'm prejudiced...
