I have a subcapsular cataract on both eyes, developing slowly since the age of 30. Very likely it is the result of UV radiation damage coming from using tanning beds during my early 20s without wearing protection goggles all the time (but always having my eyes closed and facial UV lights off). Around ten years later the problems began, increasing since then very slowly with every year. As far as I understand due to the aging the damaged cells from the UV light are more and more densifying on the surface of the lens by the newly generated cells from the middle of the lens. The effect is similar to a dirty glass pane, catching and breaking light (like a dirty front glass pane of a car). Fortunately this is not causing a loss in sharp vision, but unfortunately it increases the brightness of the vision and direct light sources in the visual field are blinding (including monitor screens). I need to wear self-tinting glasses, that cover the eyes, when I go into daylight to compensate the increased brightness. Inside I need to use indirect lights and even illuminated rooms so I can see everything - otherwise the light from a TV screen or computer monitor would superimpose its light over everything else in the room (and I cannot see the keyboard under the monitor). The windows of my home are covered by tinted UV absorbing foil, otherwise normal daylight would result into too much brightness in my vision. People are always warned against skin cancer regarding UV light from tanning beds. I never heard about the risks for cataracts when being exposed to UV light and that closing your eyes does not protect, since the thin skin of the eyelids lets enough UV radiation through to damage the lens. There should always be a warning in tanning studios regarding cataracts. When I talked to people about it - including doctors - they were surprised about this connection.
Can you please tell which ocular pathologies/ conditions (directly or indirectly) linked to the increased permeability of the ocular surface other than dry eye, eye allergies and inflammation.

Hello! I wear glasses for near sightedness since 1968 & i still do right now & i am already 68 years old. My right eye turned blurry about over a year ago. My eye doctor found a virus in my eye. She recommended me to undergo Cataract Surgery & I did. After a week since, my vision was worse than before & spent money on this procedure from my own pocket. I questioned why, but i was not satisfied with her answer. So i went to see another Eye Specialist. My doctor remarked, "Why did she perform a surgery on your eye knowing you have a virus? It only spreads faster." Is this true? Now, i see another Eye Surgeon to perform a Cornea Transplant on me, but still waiting for a Donor. Please provide answer to my lingering question. Thank you so much.
