Nice to see a young person with a soulful home instead of the beige, white and cream homes I see all over the internet.....yawn. Yours has more of a collected look and THAT will NEVER go out of style because it is unique.

I have a dark moody painting of my great great grandfather. It’s a self portrait. My gran had it up at the top of her stairs when I was growing h up. I was terrified to walk past it to go to bed. I thought his eyes were moving! Now I have it and I know more about my relative. I want it up in our new place but wasn’t sure the rest of the decor would work. This video has given me the confidence to try it out. His portrait reminds me that things that used to scare me don’t have to in the future. A powerful message.

    You had me at "Tension".
Immediately you went beyond good to great. Accurate and articulate. It IS like the "It Girl" in the room. This is incredibly helpful, thank you. I'm designing a home office. It's very lovely but lacked impact. Tension!! Exactly, thank you! Three minutes in, and I've subscribed.
You might enjoy connecting with some of the great practitioners of tension (where money is no object)

Thank you for the great inspo. I will watch your content with much appreciation.

  • @robinbirdj743

The unexpected choice makes a place feel personal and original.
My bathroom was looking too much like a 1900s museum with its claw foot tub, wall mount sink, warm, brown wood beadboard, brass, antique tp holder, and old chair. The 130 yo cabinet wasn’t helping but provided fantastic narrow storage. Yesterday I decided the window needed a vinyl privacy film and used one in a more modern pattern with similar colors (including a pretty aqua blue similar to the color I painted the outside of the tub).
The towels are more grayed and work without matching.
The effect of those TWO more modern elements in a sea of simple Victoriana helped make the room come ALIVE.
    Lone Fox GETS me. ❤
Love that you gave Drew’ channel exposure.
    You’re pretty great, too!
    Keep creating, keep explaining.

Fantastic video! When I look at the third picture (of the kitchen) I think the offset pictures help give balance to the fact that the hood and stove are out of center in the room. If the frames were centered on the hood, the room would be weighted too heavily towards the window. It’s almost like a teeter-totter, and that little bit of visual weight brings it back to the sweet spot.

loved this -- I love your piece on tension. You pinpointed exactly what I am drawn to in my own space (and what I think my friends raise an eyebrow to haha!) but it's something I crave to create and currently need to tap into in my own home since I just moved in. If I don't have it, I feel.. unsettled, like things are too.. in place, if that makes sense. Like you said, expected. I need the funky feeling. It's just that personal in the moment decision to place something somewhere, based on a feeling. "So wrong that it starts to feel right" Loved this video, ill be watching it again Xo

Wonderful video! Your content is always so informative and insightful. Thanks for sharing this info with us.
I think the hardest part of this for me to implement is tension, I think that's a big part of what separates those who mimic interior design trends from the designers who set the trends, who are really intuitive and creative. Not saying something like tension can't be learned, but I don't think I have that intuition myself naturally, let's say lol.
But regardless of that, I learn more about interior design every time I watch your content and I'm loving it!

  • @elisa5560
    @elisa5560 Месяц назад

Most times, the pictures you showed there was a logical reason for the placement, size and color. When you look at the other pieces in the room, placing pictures seemingly asymmetrical, in reality, it creates balance cause the other pieces are a different visual weight or are off center, too
