I rode the previous version at the NEC on their little off road circuit. People using the African Twin had problems not falling due to height and weight. My little himalayan had no problem.. It took everything in its stride. Great fun
I saw that display and you are correct lots of people dropped bikes but the Himmy sailed on…. Ride safe.
I recently bought one of these after being away from biking for a number of years and I love it. Not too tall, weight nice and down low, feels really planted on the road. They're a lovely, solid, comfortable, confidence inspiring bike for a new or returning rider. Also, on the motorway it WILL do 70 but not really much more so your licence is unlikely to be in danger at any point. :)
Yeah, give it 2500 miles to bed in and font rush the running in and they get better and better
I can only strongly support your review. I have this exact bike since march and can not stop grinning whenever I am riding it.
My last bike was a Yamaha XT 500 nearly 27 years ago (loved it, but it was a bitch).
The Himmy is simply fantastic for what I do with it. You will not win a race, nor can you follow the flow on a german autobahn (I just stick behind a HMV and let the others pass).
But on smaller roads this bike shines - you can virtually drive circles around bigger GS or Harleys on those roads.
The bike is easy to handle, is very forgiving when you take a curve somewhat stupid and it runs like on tracks on backroads.
Also, people seem to like the bike as well when you meet joger or hiker - they react with friendly interest. It is simply not intimidating like bigger, meaner bikes.
Anyway, enough praises - this bike simply makes me happy.
Was a bit on the fence but after watching this vid I ordered one on a truly great deal (2022). Looking forward to retro biking (I'm 58 - started on single pots) and keep the sports bike for the best days (RSV R).
As for the occasional workday commute this will be perfect and I'm sure I'll arrive at work and home with a smile on my face.
People like it only because it's Fun and doesn't burn a hole in the pocket. It lack most of the stuff that comes with most new bikes but this bike uses the lack of features as a feature itself as it means less failures. Simple motor very very easy to fix on the side of the road.
Great review, love your simplistic style, for the money what a great little plodder, load it up and ride it anywhere
Great review guys ! I grin from ear to ear when riding mine !
Its a grin only a himmi owner can understand, im the same.
Had mine since october last year the engine runs in after a few thousand miles gets better doesn't make mutch difference to it with a passenger on. its a fun bike to ride but people still look down there nose at it. My zzr doesn't get used mutch now 👍good review
Let em mate I’m thinking about getting one as a 2nd bike I love em I ride a Honda xadv so called bikers don’t even acknowledge me because I haven’t got 120 +horse power
Rode the 2019 version over at Geoff,s, two up for 4 days and was very surprised how nice it was . Looking forward to the yellow one review as Teresa is pos going to get one. Might even trade in the T120. Keep up the good work lads. Mo.
I love the Himalayan but could never exchange my 25 year old Honda Dominator for one. The grunt of a 650 mono would be very hard to part with. And the fact that I renovated it and keep it running myself is way more satisfying than buying a new bike. Even without ABS….Or any other electronic aids.
Love the enthusiasm for such low powered basic bikes. I really believe you like the Meteor and Himalayan.
It’s an awesome machine and as long as you lower your power and speed expectations it ticks all the boxes. Ride safe
Great review of what looks to be an amazing bike for the money. Sometimes less is more and what this bike lacks in sophistication it makes up for in character.....I would like to borrow one on a sunny day and potter out into the country side in search of a cream tea! Cheers to you both.
i have two Enfields in storage in India, one in Manali and one in Goa, both are old bullet 500s but i'm really hanging out for the release of the Himalayan 650, can't wait to hit those mountains on one of those.
Excellent review 👍
I'm getting me one!!! Perfect for the Philippines.
Hey Mark, love that happy grin. I'll tell you what, I've watched a specific lady tour the world on one of these and I did check this bike out. It has a respectable name, it's less complicated than a wife, it has a classic look without luggage, but looks like a proper travelling beast of a motorcycle when loaded. The only drawback is it's lack of a decent highway speed, but other than that I would be really fond of it if I owned one. If anything, this review, and that grin has made me reconsider.
Brilliant! We try to give real world reviews unlike many others which seem like cut and paste articles… Ride safe
@@markholroyd5365 yes, I know. I'm subscribed to a few of those billboards. Over time I've learned to simply scroll past their reviews in the same manner I go past a billboard without ever noticing it. Stand straight/upright, as they say in my neck of the woods.
Loved the unscripted style of this video!
Great to see you back on the road.
Always good to hear nice things about the Himalayan.
I don't know how a review can be done after jumping on a bike for the first time. Perhaps 'first impressions' should be in the title.
I'm 6'2" and find the bike comfortable with a good upright sitting position.
Good fun machine!
BTW, the tripper is only similar to the Beeline in that its round and about the same size. The tripper links via bt to the Enfield app on the phone which itself uses google maps. There is still voice nav from the phone speaker too. Better in my view than Beeline with bright colour direction info on the screen. And it's integral which saves quite an expense on the Beeline! I admit that I only have TMFs review of the beeline to make the comparison.
Cheers.
Test rode one few days ago, as per you I loved it 👍. Front brake a little vague I thought.
Thanks guys. Great review. I'm eyeing one of these little gems and you guys haven't helped my bank account at all! ATVB
Just got mine and… I couldn’t be happier. Absolutely smile generator! It’s like a friendly farm horse that wants you to ride it.
That's it... I'm finally sold. Been thinking about an adventure bike since 2014 so, as you'd expect, I bought a Honda vtx 1300. Oh well, the heaviest, most lumpy handling thing out there! Looking to trade that in asap & get what I should have got in the first place. Cheers for the video. 👍
Hot pits (me & me sons last week. Both of us been walking around with huge grins and loving their unique nature. Bit like friendly farm Horse that wants to be ridden.
Ooh! That poor bike! You did 70 on it, and it hasn’t even had the 300 mile valve check yet. Not really run in until 1000. I have another 550 miles to go on mine, and was advised by the dealer to do no more than 45 to 50 to 300 miles, certainly not over 4000 rpm. Now I can build it up gradually to the 1000 mile mark.
We were assured by the dealer that it would be fine to go up to 70mph. Thanks for your concern. Ride safe
@@markholroyd5365 there’s always one mate isn’t there 🥱🥱
Glad your back, we was having withdrawal symptoms lol
That mystery dial is a compass 👍🏻
Dont understand why its got the compass and also the new sat nav never used the compass on mine
@@dazsyvo8499 a lot of roads aren’t listed on google maps. If you were riding across a giant salt lake or desert with no marked roads, the nav display is useless but the compass could save your life. Also the compass is pretty useless on winding roads, you can’t take a bearing.
@@dazsyvo8499 simple answer to that is... Mobile data is expensive, especially for poorer people so the gadget is useless to them! A compass costs nothing.
@Himalayan_Harry the compass is as mutch use as a chocolate fire guard never ever right
@@dazsyvo8499 chocolate fire guard is only useless if you actually light the fire!🤔😉
Great review guys. I'm going to test ride a Himalayan soon at a local dealer.
Good review here 👍
I'm pretty sure it's 60mph at 5k RPM, mine holds a solid 50mph @ 4K RPM in 5th 😉
awesome machine too
@@RiderCamTV really is!
My 4th Bike, and absolute Favorite thus far!
Really enjoyed your review, cheers ✌️
Surprising that it feels light given the crazy high 199 kg weight.
If you want a cheap simple plodder, great bike. I'd change the the tires for something with more grip in wet conditions.
Well the observant ones amongst us know what next week's review will be.
Missed your videos. Great review.
Best way to describe one of these is to compare them to a series 2 landy. Not quick, but irs going to go everywhere you point it
True👍
Itchy Boots loves the Royal Enfield Himalayans.
Did 🤔
@@dazsyvo8499 Noraly rides a Honda CRF250 in Namibia now.
@@saigonnais yes i know as i said did
Yeah, bums on seats rubber on road review. Nice to see you doing a ride and review. Ride safe chaps.
Now thats tempting. Thanks guys. 👍
A vlogger who travels the world Itchy Boots rides this. I kind of like the Guzzi V85TT Travel. Are you thinking of reviewing it?
We would love to review the Guzzi V8TT unfortunately the nearest dealer is in Exeter which would be a 200mile round trip. That said we will get round to it at some point but during the summer with all the holiday traffic it will have to wait.
You sound like a football commentator/presenter from the BBC I can't put a name on!
Do you think it would be a confortable bike for a tall rider? 1.95m Thanks
I’m 1.8m and it felt fine. Take it out for a ride.
@@markholroyd5365 upto 6.5 its very comfortable, i m 6.4 though
Great Review I really like The Himalayan no frills fun bike be interesting to see what it's like 2 up..??? I'm a shorter rider and really fancy one of these....
As an under tall rider you will be fine. Ride safe
Is that yellow metor in background.
Shhhh!! That’s in a video soon…. Ride safe
yes it is yellow fireball varient
I'm tempted with one of these, for green laneing and wet mucky days 😜Save my big lady for best
These are CEAT ( pronunced se at) formerly an Italian company taken over by India around 50 years back. This company specialises in 2 wheeler tyres. It has a tripper navigation that connects to your phone and shows turn by turn.
See-AT (CEAT) is also kind of like Royal Enfield. The Indian branch survived the death of the parent company from Europe, and then go on to become the new face of the company.
81F .... what's that real money? That IS real money!
Royal Enfield was started in 1901
I heared it has chassis problem,
What about 2021,
Problem , is it sloved
Not heard of any problems. Ride safe
it was there only in early models when first launched in India, when they stared shipping overseas it was already solved
My brand new Himalayan is waiting in the garage. I'm waiting for the test to get my drivers licenser. Hard times...😡
I think those hard times have probably passed by now, so how do you like your Himalayan?
Does it have a gear indicator?
Yes it does. Ride safe
I wish RE made one with the 650 twin motor
It would louse its character its a donkey not a race horse
Being 6ft 1" I Feel Taller riders are a bit cramped with seat height to footpegs or I would like it .Great style old school design. Or is it just me ? Nice bike though for the price.
Its you , get of your high horse and try one ,lol
I've bought one recently, and yes the seat height does make you feel a bit cramped for f you're taller ( I'm 6'1 too), however i rode it North Wales recently without too much discomfort, I have however bought a seat pad so will fit that today;! Overall though a great bike and after a break of over 10yrs a great way to get back on the road again👍
re himalayan is a british designed indian built bike.
Completely wrong! Pierre Terblanche, formerly of Ducati and Moto Guzzi among other companies, headed Royal Enfield's design team during development of the Himalayan. An early prototype was made in mid-2014, followed by a more complete version in 2015. Your getting confused with the bullet design. This bike has nothing to do with the older style Enfield's
Bought one 3 months ago. Avoid like the plague. Engine sounds like a can of nails after 2k miles poor electrics , 200 quid for a first service . Paid for a top spec version still no handgaurds or crash bars supplied. Paid for extra topbox still not fitted.

The lack of microphone when Toby is talking and the glare/dirty lens are really dragging the quality of this video down...
It should be in front of a busy shopping mall ,lol
It's funny how bikes that cost 3x times more, are only 30% better.
true
👍👍👍👍👍
Hi all. Does single cylinder suit off road better than a twin? Newb here
It would depend on what you want to do. Ride safe
it gets 34 nm of torque @4000-4500rpm, with such low end torque it is really a very good off roader and good hill climber
Compass
Did you say "wing mirrors"? Lol
The same engine(as a 500)...maybe some more research needed bud.
These bikes have been out at least 3 years yet you act like they came out yesterday.
This was the updated version. Ride safe
First time I have watched a bike review by these guys , unfortunately Im not impressed , this 2021 Himalayan is an up-dated version of the previous model years , the 2021 model is a BS6 euro 5 spec , the previous models are BS3, carburetor , BS4 euro 4, fuel injection. ,You ,your mate said handbook available on line, its good to see you did your research and read it. - NOT - , Also as you did pick the bike up from the dealer , not knowing any thing about said bike , you went and asked the salesman/service tech and got the just on how to operate/read/set controls/clocks - AGAIN NOT. The tyre's on this version are 'CEAT' Asian manufactured , ok for the job , previous versions to the UK came with Perelli ! MT60's , 0 - 60 is somewhere in the 11 - 15 seconds bracket . The unit construction engine in this model , has NEVER been used in any other bike by this or any other brand/manufacturer , The 500 'scrambler' you referred to is the much up-dated Indian Enfield Bullet , originally a pre-unit with 4 speed gearbox - designed back in the 1940's and built by Royal Enfield in Redditch Uk then built in India under licence - , with a high level pipe ,18 rear 21 inch front wheel , skinny mudguards , and single seat , the engine similarity's of the 500cc scrambler and the 411cc Himalayan are single cylinder ,air cooled , fuel injection , electronic ignition , electric start , 5 speed gearbox . there it ends , no engine , fuel system , ignition system , parts are interchangeable . This version the 2021 BS6 euro 5 spec comes with 17 rear/19 front , wheels , slightly better front brake over previous model , this/previous models do not come with crash bars , add-on accessory only . Suspension is OK , if you are in the weight range 50 - 80 kilo , much heavier riders will find it lacking , same with the brakes - use both all the time - , tank range is reasonable, ridden sensibly 65 + mpg is easily obtainable , ideal A2 licence holders bike for pleasure/commute , not a good motorway/high speed cruiser , lacks top speed/power . 3k service interval - learn to service your bike - , overall a reliable , easy to live with , born again / A2 learner bike to enjoy and have fun on . Pity these guys didn't do any research and try to give facts , as in cost £4+ - £4.5 K on the road , service interval , mpg , cost of service/parts etc .
Jeez , you must be bored , why watch video if you know it all !!!
Himalayan expert needs to get out more..zzzzzzzzz.
@@maz2496 if I knew it all I would not of watched the video, hoping to get more information and opinions, but when a so called bike blogger gives useless and misleading info it just pisses me off ,to think someone might buy this bike on this guy's inaccurate information/description. Plus I did get the front wheel size wrong , it has a 21 not a 19.
that was makes it it unbiased
Frankly I found the review in the video more enjoyable.
Your road positioning is terrible
I’ve seen worse 🤔
