Thanks ZVL. My favorite urethane ball is the Pitch Black. I don't care for the Purple Hammer since it's a shim wrecker. I use my Pitch Black to push oil downlane to create hold for my reactive pieces. If I were to get another one, it would be the Black Hammer Pearl Urethane.
My most recent addition to my arsenal is the Hammer NU Blu. I hadn't shot a 700 series for the past 5 years, so figured that I was getting older and that those days were behind me. Man, was I ever wrong! Got the NU Blu and had three 700+ series in the 1st 2 months. I was ecstatic! I love how this ball runs down the lane longer than my other bowling balls and then hooks nicely into the pocket from my 40 foot 10-board aim point. It's a great ball under my local house conditions but can become flighty once the transition area gets all tracked up. When that happens, I switch to my Brunswick Rhino which seems less dependent on lane conditions. When the NU Blu straightens out, usually towards the end of the 2nd game, the Rhino just keeps coming into the pocket with a nice smooth hook. The 3rd ball in my bag is a 14-lb. plastic ball for 10-pin shots. It does a good job on the 10s as long as I hit my mark and don't put extra hand in it.
Love my NU Blue! It’s a great compliment to my Radical TrailBlazer Solid Short Pin on house. I’m a two hander and those two lets me keep my lines straight. Excellent comparison video!
I like to make the Pin-PAP distance around 4" and a VAL angle of 30-35. Higher if it's a urethane with an actual core (Pink Widow, Zen U, etc) but otherwise I'm trying to maximize the flare of those tiny cores
I bought the Storm IQ Tour 78U ball this summer and I like it. My primary ball is the Black Widow 2.0 Hybrid and I switch to the IQ when the lanes break down too much for the Black Widow. It's also good for spare shooting (other than the ten pin...I have a Storm Clear White ball for that).
My favorite now is the Black Widow B.G.D. Urethane overseas ball. It’s actually stronger than my Purple Hammer. I just hate that I can’t use it for regionals or nationals. But it is a BEAST for small tournaments and league. RG 2.50 Diff .058 Plus it’s Carmel color with the metallic gold logo. So it’s looks amazing 😂
My urethanes have some age on them...like a lot! I currently tote two, an Ogre urethane from Visionary, and a Hot Cell. The Ogre, at the time of release, claimed to be the hardest urethane ever put on a ball. I know the Hot Cell is a polymer ball, but what I am wondering is, you say that urethanes have small cores, but both of these have pretty bomb cores. These are easily my go to balls, bowling in the Midwest on the left side. I may not average in the 230's, but what I do not have with either ball, when thrown on the appropriate conditions, is a problem with carry. I do, perhaps, give up some forgiveness...but I have always put a priority on shot making. My question, how do these match up with the newer offerings???
I'm right with you on the IQ78. Had it drilled 2 different ways and could never get consistency. I could also never get the right roll on it. Seemed to always have too much axis rotation compared to everything else I throw. Maybe the low rg got it spinning too quickly. I use my Purple on pretty much everything. If it can't strike, I go to the Pitch Black. Have a Black pearl urethane ordered. Hoping it gives me the ball I need between plastic and the Purple.
I don’t have a spare ball and some of the plastics that look cool are pretty overpriced. Would you recommend using a urethane/ urethane like ball instead for a two handed balance speed/rev bowler?
I have 270-300 revs and throw from 12-14 mph. Which urethane do you guys recommend for me. I want a true urethane as I am starting sport shot and want something good that I can use on those patterns. I wasn’t sure if something weaker like the iq 78 would be better for my low ball speed but I want to hear what you think.
The Purple Hammer is always the safest option because it’s the best on the market, but if you’re worried about your ball speed I’d look at the Black Hammer 78d. It’ll be a little longer and smoother
@@ZVLBowling His numbers sound like mine. I like playing around with the Purple, but it takes more effort for us low speed players to get it down the lane. I don't have that problem with the 78D.
I'm 62 yo 2hands bowler (low speed/high rev) and usually use my Pitch Blach (Pin Up) and Black Hammer 78 (Stacked layout), for 197 to 210 average on Sport Pattern and all time. i have a Purple Urethane and the IQ 78u but, these are too much strong for me.
I just bought a Purple Hammer. I'm a left handed bowler. Should I feel guilty trying this on league night? I haven't yet because I don't want to be a jerk I guess. Avg 208 in league now using a Motiv Sky Raptor. AKA THE THUNDER CHICKEN.
@@aceassn716 I'm right handed and will throw my purple on anything. That's the other bowlers fault if they don't know how to adjust. I also throw a plastic white dot on most house shots.

I love the purple!!! To me it’s the best ball because you can play “defense” with it and still score big games. Thank you for making this video!!!
As someone who’s owned both the purple hammer and black hammer…. they’re both great
Purple Hammer all the way. Shot my first and only 300 with it. ;)

My pink widow flares probably 5-6 inches
What’s some of your favorite Urethane layouts, and why? (Asking as a fellow pro shop guy) Thanks for the great video as always!!
I don't have anything crazy, just pin over ring

I would definitely go for the Purple Hammer, but I've never used urethane before. Thanks for another great video!

Nice, just when I was thinking of adding a urethane ball to my arsenal

Uc3?
I think my Black Widow Purple Pearl Urethane takes the #1 spot. That thing is pure ruthless aggression.
What about the Zen U?
It would be around the same zone as the Yellow Jacket, just a little earlier
Where would you place the Level on this list.
I think it’s around the Motiv microcell polymer balls
I don’t have a spare ball and some of the plastics that look cool are pretty overpriced. Would you recommend using a urethane/ urethane like ball instead for a two handed balance speed/rev bowler?
Hey bro, where do you put the pitch purple? :)
It'll be around the same zone as the NU Blue
What do you think about the fast pitch?
If you have a good change up, and curve ball, that's a nice three pitch arsenal to punch out a lot of hitters.

Yes, just not PBA tournaments!

Not at all! How many Lefties will be on that pair? Try some practice shots at least haha

@@aceassn716 I think you might be right. Bowled one other lefty so far. I'll roll a few practice shots next week. Thanks.

Purple hammer but right now I am using the pitch as number one..
I think i've never seen anyone use the yellowjacket on tour
EJ did 1-2 times, but otherwise I also rarely see it

None of the BW variants? Kinda odd
I only included urethanes that are still in production - the BW variants are discontinued
@ZVLBowling aah ok that makes sense. Hoping they'll make a 78D BW variation soon.
