I have forgotten to say few things and features about the tracker in the video. 1 The tracker electronics is designed so it can be controlled from a phone 2 the tracker is upgradable so you can upgrade it to go-to 3 It contains integrated intervalometer and remote control from web app.
Hi, what are the disadvantages of using an Arduino for this project compared to the ESP32. I know Arduino does not have bluetooth or wifi, can it still function without being connected to a computer? I do have a intervalometer so I do not need that function. I just need the tracking. I have a spare Creality 42-40 stepper motor with 200 steps. I did check for the model 17HS4401S but it seems like the ones that are locally sold here are 1.8 degrees so 200 steps like this Creality stepper. Is there a noticable tradeoff when using a 200 step stepper motor. Size wise only difference is that the stepper I have is 1mm longer than yours. I would like to go with this one for first try if it is okay. Other than that I also have the same Tair lens but the older version. Unfortunately mine is missing the aperture mechanism so I made a small cut on its body from the side so I can manually change the aperture by sticking a screw driver in there directly. Optically it is flawless and I can adapt it to my fujifilm camera. It seems like all I need is the mechanical parts and a stepper driver. I have a decently new camera and good collection of lenses. I am being held back by the lack of star tracker. I also have a very sturdy tripod. Do you think I should give this a try with the stuff I have?
I have never seen so much technical talk look so seductive. I watched the whole thing, and I don't even own a 3d printer, but now I want one. You're amazing! And a wonderful human for making this video.
This is an amazing piece of work! Congratulations for having the idea, the patience and the skill to build it, refine it and end up with a very high quality result!! But to then provide the 3D models so people can build there own is outsanding! I can't wait to see what you do next!!
Hi I have started development of the OG cube tracker which will be tracker that will have hopefuly payload limit arround 10-15kg so it will have performance arround eq5 pro . I plan to make it from 2020 aluminium extrusions and off the shelf metal components and keep the 3d prints off structrual parts. 3d prints I plant to use for gearbox and few other things. I plan to have the first prototype done by March. Do you plan to build it ?
First, Thank you for all the hard work. I have never designed anything of this magnitude but even the smaller scale projects I have done makes me appreciate what it takes to make all of this happen. I'm all in. I have already printed about 40% of this in PLA+ and the parts are coming out great. Thanks to all your collaborators as well. Looking forward to testing out my first OG Startracker! (actually it will be my first star tracker of any kind)
Bravo! I just got a 3D printer and just had to sell my AZ GTi mount. So I was thinking about printing a DIY star tracker. I will definitely give yours a try!!
Really good job on the tracker and the video. It was very nice to be taken on your journey through to the final product. Not many share their fails. Thanks and all the best.
AMAZING WORK!! I've been trying to make a 3d printed extremely cheap telescope + manual tracker. Trying my best to hit the 40usd mark. Just to see if it is even possible to have a usable astro tool at such a small price. There is not much information on this niche of a topic. So. This has been very informative. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this! I have built it myself (the second to last one in the credits). And it's just amazing. I was always curious about astrophotography, but afraid of committing so much money. This got me finally into it. Only some bearings, gears, and belts, as well as a laser and a lens heater, were purchased. The rest I had scattered around, or were part of my photography equipment.
Hey man! I have just started building the tracker. Huge thanks for releasing the plans and making it accessible! Amazing design. I'll try to finish it this semester and share the results. Cheers!
Still waiting for clear skies on a night where i have time to try out the one you sent me :) also missing a batinov mask... and a decent lens... but we'll get there
Very interesting video, wish I found this 3 years ago when I started. Good luck with your channel. I have to admit you sound like Borat the astronomer hehe..I like your humour. Thanks bro.
Such a great Project! Is the Upgrade to the extra Axis still in development? And of so, will it be upgradable upon this version? Im asking because I am thinking about printing this tracker, but im not sure if i should wait for the upgrade
the second axis is now released for beta testing. And i am working on new tracker which i will release in 5 months and it would be eq5 equivalent. I also plan to make a metal version of this tracker.
I'm currently building it. The only issue I run into was the m6 that was supposed to hold the ball head; I never seen a ball head for m6 screws, most of them require a 1/4'' or 3/8'' screw. Fortunately, I was able to buy one, it's on its way :).
Hi I have uploaded on printables version for 1/4" screw. I used m6 screw because it was the closest screw to 1/4" and you can use a adapter from 1/4" to 3/8" this adapter should partially work on m6 screw.
@@ogstartracker I must have missed that 1/4 version when downloading STLs. No worries though, everything else works quite nicely :). I also made some mods to the stationary part - I've added four holes for screws, since I designed an additional round mounting element for my EQ-2 stand. Once I get everything working, I'll share it on Printables in the "makes" tab.
The akcent is the best I am from czech and our language is quiet sharp no sining. So english for us is like a sining. But this english is super fun to listen. Even i does not care about the build i listen to the whole video 🤣 Could I ask where are you from ?
very impressive project. I'm also working on a similar project using a planetary gearbox. I want to ask you about the total gear reduction of your gearbox.
Hi, i want to buy your star tracker kit but im wondering how the intervalometer works on it? My camera (eos r50) doesnt have a slot where you plug in your intervalometer like other camera usually do. So how does the intervalometer work on the kit? Also thanks for making such a good affordable star tracker, you really are a life saver 😃
Hi, if it doesn't have an intervalometer port, then you would need to use the one integrated in the camera. Thanks. I hope you will enjoy it. Clear skies
@@ogstartracker Thanks you for answering I think I will buy your kit in a couple of days! And an intervalometer app will do fine hopefully. Clear skies!

What material was used for 3d printing? Since i would have to avail online 3d printing services- these are the material options- ABS, ASA, PETG, PLA.
Hi, don't you want to buy the 3d printed parts from my eshop? You would support me, and it would be cheaper than online 3d printing service. Use pla.
Question: how many hours do you think this tracker has until the components start wearing down?
i am using it over an year and i didn't have any issues.

gear ratio is 101 and dont use planetary gearbox it has a big periodic error and backlash
How much for commercial license to sell it? I got a couple of buddies that love astro photography and would be interested
Any chance there'll be scope for a counterweight set up?
Could you please provide information on the battery reference that was utilized?
it was just an average battery.

How can I use this for s23u mobile? Is it possible?
Are you there in astrobiscuts server
yes @gepardmobil
Will it work effectively in 17 degree N ?
it depends if you can see polaris from yours place. So it depends
How much weight can it handle effectively ? (>=2sec exposure time)
3kg
What is the gearbox?
Does this work at the equator? Or southern hemisphere?
It can work on south hemisphere if you would use polar scope. On equator without dec upgrade i dont recomend using it.
In the first moment I thought he was high af
Do you ship to Egypt?
