Editor's note: A little too hesitant to give this a place among the best crime thrillers. I love Ai Magase still but...after episode 7...yeah.

This anime probably has the best usage of violence to maximum effect without even showing it in most times.
Yesss, more Magase Ai love!! It's so rare for us to get a good female villain and after episode 7, she's definitely my favorite since Ryoko in Parasyte. Like that episode legitimately gave me chills and I look forward to seeing more of the dynamics between her and Seizaki.
Man, that episode gave me anxiety 😬😬. Such a stellar cliffhanger.

and with all that mental torture Seizaki is getting... he can't even kill himself, because that would just prove Itsuki point on the suicide law, just think about it
i like that the MC is chasing her, but everytime there is the barrier that prevents him to stop her. she can do what she wants and MC is powerless to do anything. so the only way for him to stop her is to break his own moral rules, but then he becomes the bad man.
I don't know how they pulled it off, but Ai somehow manages to blend the calculated seductiveness of Sharon Stones character in basic instinct, with the blatant mind fuckery of Hannibal Leckter, while acting like some sweet, seemingly innocent wifu bait. The end result manages to disturb, arouse, and make you feel warm and fuzy all at the same time. It's kind of creepy actually.
She's as effective IRL.

Great video man! I've been loving Babylon (enough to have also done a video on it myself), and your deep dive into Magase was really well done and you hit every point I thought about hwat makes her a great villain. Her philosophical interest in Seizaki and challenging his ideals, her incredible vocal performance, how unsettling she is in general, etc. Can't wait to see how the last few episodes go!

It would be interesting indeed, I do believe Johan would indeed beat her though. It was confirmed that Johan represented the "beast of revelation" n the biblical texts., Ai Magase on the other hand is represented as the "Whore of Babylon" in the biblical texts. Her full title according to the text of the Bible is "Babylon the Great, the Mother of Prostitutes and Abominations of the Earth", her downfall is described in the Book of Revelation as being killed by a "beast with seven heads and ten horns" aka the beast of revelation.

@@Ezra-kb9wm No, there is no concrete answer what Whore of Babylon is. She is sitting on a best. Not being killed by her. Most likely Whore of Babylon represents the system which would come with the Beast aka Antichrist. The Antichrist is also most likely some organizational figure and not one person.

She honestly has the potential to be one of the best villains in anime though we do have to see how the remaining episodes will unweave the mysteries behind her character.

I agree with you that Babylon is not to be taken lightly of. Idk about putting it into the greatest crime thriller list as there countless, however in the medium of Anime this show is definitely one of the better suspense shows. Which is why I think it's sad that the show hasn't got anywhere near the popularity it deserves.

as much as people hated the ending, that one scene where the president get mindfuc\ed by magase to kill himself and seizaki has to choose between right and wrong action where eventually the president and seizaki came to the same conclusion without a single word and seizaki has to abandon his moral justification of justice made me think, if i were in the same position as seizaki, i would have done the same because at that point, either i let it happen (which i obviously lose the battle) or i do the other option (which i still lose my moral justice).

Yo man, you plan on making another video about Ai now that the series is over? All I'm seeing is people angry at the second half and ending. I loved it, but I'd genuinely like to know your opinion :).
Not really planning on one but to be honest, I'm disappointed in how things turned out. Still love Ai but would've loved the show to focus on the dynamic between Seizaki and Magase.
@@BrahHD I do agree with that. I think they tried to go the Devilman Crybaby angle, where they showed the main character's local conflict then escalate it to a global problem. But they didn't pull it off as well. I do think the problem has to be pushed to a global scale (and I really like the symbolism in the latter half of the show), but it could have used a few more episodes to make it more gradual while still keeping the focus on Sezaki. But either way, I did like how it ended :).

She is the devil that explain her powers rewatch the series with that in mind and that answers everything even that is good to continue even if she is bad she made her existsnce been acknowledged and made the protagonist like her a bad person because he did something bad even if it was for a good reason and at the end it is implied also that she is the person that was going to commit suicide since she inmediately talked through the headphone and later he gets there she was a shapeshifter tempting devil whose only sound of her voice tempted and impose her will to men, woman alikr and i think thst with the protagonist she tempted him to kill her and when he gave in he let her win and that is why she killed him and his familu in the end we dont know maybe if he had not shot at the end the president would have not fallen or maybe the hero shot at her but she was inmortao or naybe her power did not nedd to have any conditions except gaving in to the temptation but it is clear like her uncle do that if you came in contact with her you need to escape from where tou are as him thst dis not saw her for 8 years and never planned to since then maybe thw heri was condemned for continuing fighting her without believing in god, who knows.

It's till too soon to tell. But for me it's askellad. He is complex and manipulative and charming all in one.
I thought of that too but after seeing more of him, I can't really call him a villain anymore. He's just a old man who wants whats best for everybody and is sick of the lifestyle he grew up in.

What's sad is that at the crunchyroll awards either askeladd or isabella will win. Having just finished Babylon if someone disputes that Magase isnt best antagonist, they are wrong. Such a well written character that is truly the epitome of a villain

askeladd isn't a villain, hes pretty much the protagonist of vinlands first season lol, magase is a much better villain, she literally forces people to commit suicide and chopped someone up into pieces while alive

I feel like to be impressed by this anime you need to see nothing, to know nothing and be quite naive in everything human.
Same as little kids falling into depression just at a thought of nihilism , or people that like Re Zero. A product for the masses with no taste.
