I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has found this video of a great MF DOOM x Nas collaboration. Posted this over 10 years ago simply because I had downloaded the album off of a streaming website (unfortunately was the censored version) and realized nobody had this song posted on RUclips at the time. This song was definitely one of my favorites off the album because of the message Nas is expressing definitely ahead of its time. I didn’t realize how many people would come across this video over the years so again thank you and RIP MF DOOM. 🖤
I knew MF for some years, but only a couple of months decides to give him a hard listen. What a fool I was... And just discovered this track. Insta fave.
@@treeroot7505 its just STEEZ's remix. Sadly he never actually did anything with mf doom, just took a lot of inspiration from him. both legends in their own right.
Can someone please explain where this version come from? I find this version to be so much better. Is this MF Doom just mixing the original Nas version?
This was mixed by MF DOOM and released independently. There are two volumes. DOOM made these because he has long expressed a desire to officially collaborate with Nas.
I'm assuming because it wasn't easy to just s get an accapella rip of a mainstream artists's song pre digital age. The only way you would have one is if they were included on the 12 inch single version released to DJs and stores as singles. The 12 inch usually contained the clean radio and dirty versions on one side, and the B side would usually have the instrumental and Acapella for the same song. That was for the DJs, and often radio, not the average everyday consumer. The DJs would blend the instrumental or the Acapella and it had to be something they could do on the radio, hence the clean version.
If you follow politics and geopolitics you'll see what the songs really about he's talking about the damages of American imperialism and the oligarchs neglect of our country he's saying they can't escape their consequences forever

At 3:17 Nas said "the Chinaman built the railroad", was he being sarcastic?
Nah it’s historically accurate, Chinese labour contributed to laying of the railway tracks in the US
Chinese immigrants helped lay the railroads of the first transcontinental railroad all while getting paid less than others
In the 1850-60s millions of immigrant Chinese men did a bunch of the labor building the railroads across the US. They were worked to death a lot.
All of you came I say so logic but not quoted text or content. But the Railroad would be here unless Black ppl got it started.
