A REAL SHAME THAT THE R.C.S. COLD GAS THRUSTERS DIDN'T CORRECT THE RE-ENTRY ANGLE AND ORIENTATION OF THE SHIP BUT THERE WILL BE A MOUNTAIN OF ENGINEERING DATA THAT WAS RECORDED FROM THIS FLIGHT THAT IS GOLD TO THE ENGINEERS TO IMPROVE IFT-4 ! ! !👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

The camera is on the flap (they even mention that), so the view angle changes as it moves, leading people to think it's not stabilized at the right angle.

All I could think seeing the tumbling and the reentry was thats must have been what Columbia looked like on its final reentry. Only difference here is we knew there was something wrong. They had no idea that they wouldn't make it home.

Most of that rapid movement was the camera itself.

@EJ_SA - What happened to your great videos about your road trip across the U.S.A? Those are fantastic, yet they are not here anymore. :( What happened? :( I wanted to see all of them. That was one of your most popular events of all time.

There needs to be a one piece or at least two piece heat shield jacket. Individual tiles allow for localised failure resulting in catastrophic loss. With 3d printing this should be explored.

    • @faxinspace

theyve got a thermal blanket beneath the heat shield already

they were never going to do that, it was going to be a hard splashdown.

I dont think it's rcs was strong enough to correct its roll or orientation, leading to it disintegrating.

Terminal Velocity for the Booster is apparently around 1000 Kph. Starship's flaps don't have any control authority at 100 Km. At 10 Km yeah. Not 100. Starship's mass is just too high even when empty. They're gonna need beefier RCS. More muscle. Dracos anybody? :)
