The music video gives me a feeling of how young broken men act out in destructive ways when all they are really looking for is connection - often times in our society, the connection between romantic partners (say, a man and a woman) is seen as the ultimate bond - so a lot of energy is put into those connections, perhaps at the expense of reaching similar depths with your platonic relationships - your friends. When that relationship is done, there was so much energy and emotional input 'lost' that they spiral into self-destruction. All the men in the video are 'bonding' over destructive activities - either defacing their bodies with tattoos (not saying it's a bad thing, but it's essentially defacing your body in the same way that tagging is defacing a building), getting rid of all their hair, destroying everything (vehicles, houses), either play fighting or really fighting each other, burning things, but there's moments where their relationships are highlighted even if just for a moment - the texting, the shots of various women in conversation with some of the masked men, seemingly an argument between a broken couple. As the video progresses, the intensity of the externalized violence ramps up, but it only serves to counterbalance the intensity of the alienation of the various guys - you see shots of them alone, lying face down on a mattress (presumably crying) in a fucked up house, or huddled up close to the skidding cars, or burying their faces on their hands while a car burns in the background. They're all alone, the friendships and the path they've gone down on, wanton destruction of property and even their closest relationships, they've sacrificed even their relationships for the cheap thrills of their adrenaline-fuelled lifestyles, the quick dopamine hits of new excitement. Perhaps regretting their decisions, or the circumstances that brought them here. The video's violence and quickly-edited nature contrasts with the almost serenade-like melancholy of the actual music - ultimately what they're looking for is that love story. Also, in psychoanalysis, the shaving of the head can be seen as a hint that the person completely gave up on its identity, regardless of the motive (which often happens when some people join a gang. They kill their old self and start living for something different, that's why the video feels unsettling).
Hell yeah its crazy to think that he was once filthy frank but definitely would recommend listening to his music because you can hear him leave filthy frank behind
In my eyes, music is that one platform that can take you to another place without even trying . I feel your heartbreak big dog, and I hope you find some peace . You’re a good dude and that is hard to find out here. Good luck bro
I used to know this feeling and it's the worst feeling cause you're forced to adapt and grow feelings toward a person you don't want. Music like this I feel is the most amazing because it's the most relatable sad to say. Everybody has been through heartbreak.
Being able to hear your thoughts, and relating with the topic at hand was nice. I’ve also found some relatability with Joji. I struggled to change myself, even now I struggle still. Joji has come a long way, and I’m happy for him. I’d definitely recommend you listen to some of his other songs.
thru all the bullshit they get up in the video, every scene where he's just squat down, hands over ears, punching himself. All that shit cut deep. It's real, relatable shit.
your reaction towards this song....for me is purely accurate. other youtubers reaction mostly complained the mv. For me, i do understand that feeling........doing stupid things with others/ bros, just to divert the sadness/ heartbreak. the time 4.38 & 5.01......is going blank n very deeep sadness there😞, 4.51 bros making sure your still motivated 😂
I found out aswell it’s crazy he talking about “a glimpse of us” joji and his girlfriend or ex but also in the video he showing a glimpse of us as a race and a society like what we kinda go through
Imagine being black an admitting publicly you are fan of an openly racist white dude, couldn't be me.
Damn bro he’s not
lol what did i just read
imagine assuming the guy with a japanese mother and was born in Japan was white lmao couldn't be me
pin of shame
